I cannot start Mozilla Firefox at all, no matter what I do. Nothing on the site so far has been able to help since everything assumes I can actually start it! The only thing that happens when I click Mozilla Firefox is a crash report, that's it. Nothing else, no screen flicker, no Mozilla appearing for a second or two, nothing but the crash report. I've been having this problem for about 4 days and haven't been able to fix it. The only thing I can think of is to completely uninstall Firefox (which I've been avoiding since I'd like to keep all my preferences if possible but it's looking more and more like I cannot).

however I'm starting to get the feeling I need to reinstall Firefox.

Let’s do a full clean re-install;

Download Firefox For All languages And Systems {web link}

Save the file. Then Close Firefox.

Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.

Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86)

Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-download-and-install-firefox-mac

Linux: Check your user manual. If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it. See Install Firefox on Linux; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-firefox-linux

If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder Firefox in your home directory. http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Look for, and remove any Mozilla or Firefox program folders. Do not remove the Mozilla Thunderbird folder if there is one.

Do Not remove the profiles folder.

After rebooting the computer, run a registry scanner if you have one. Then run the installer. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++ If there is a problem, start your Computer in safe mode and try again.

We're sorry to hear that your Firefox seems to be crashing when you open it. Please perform the following steps to give us a crash report ID that helps us find out more about the cause of the crash.

  1. On the keyboard, press [Windows] The image "Windows key" does not exist. + [R]. This should bring up a Run window that contains a text field.
  2. In that text field, type %APPDATA% and press Enter. An explorer window should open.
  3. From that explorer window, double-click on the Mozilla folder, then double-click on Firefox and then on Crash reports. Double-click on submitted.
  4. Now, you should see a list of files that contain reports. Go to View > Arrange Icons by > Modified to get the most recent files at the top of the window.
  5. Open the most recent 5 files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
  6. Paste each ID with bp- into the reply window on the forums.

Thanks in advance!

You can find more information and troubleshooting steps in the Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly) article.

thank you, it seems like firefox is getting killed fairly early in the startup process. next to the security software already in place, please run a scan with various other security tools like the free version of malwarebytes, adwcleaner & eset online one-time scanner.

more options

Sorry for the way late reply, I was able to successfully (finally, my dang computer updated twice and canceled the scan) scan. It appears that there is 1 infected file on my computer (which is strange that my other anti-virus didn't catch it). What can I do about that?

more options

Run the mal-scanners and let them kill the file.

more options

Done, however Mozilla still won't run. I have even restarted my computer, any suggestions?

more options

To be specific, it's now actually changed (since removing the two files (since a little while after that comment another was found)). It takes a while before Firefox throws a crash report my way and during that time I can see it running in the task manager.

In the address bar, type about:crashes<enter>. Note: If any reports do not have BP- in front of the numbers/letters, click it to submit them.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

Using your mouse, mark the most recent 7 - 10 crash reports, and copy them. Now go to the reply box and paste them in.

Had to go into the %appdata% again - here are the 7 most recent crash reports: 1. bp-e00fb2f1-130e-40c3-884f-b57f41180212 2. bp-4f947f1a-7961-4cfd-9563-763841180212 3. bp-a6b8ecf7-b01d-432a-b6a7-d58411180212 4. bp-29e7026b-e1a8-4748-adb4-ea7301180202 5. bp-7686e591-18d7-48b3-a8c2-0a0b11180130 6. bp-e642392b-306f-4a72-b007-2b69b1180129 7. bp-671efc87-e17e-40c8-b00e-c63d60180129

I should also mention that it's gone back to it's old ways again, it's not booting up at all and just giving a crash report when I click on it. It seems my computer reboot for some reason allowed it to run in the background (but not pop-up) for a couple of seconds before it crashed.

inproc_agent.dll = Kaspersky Inproc Agent

Totally remove, then reinstall Kaspersky using the current full installer. If there is still a problem, disable it.

I uninstalled Kaspersky completely, then tried to boot up Firefox while it was down - these are the two crash reports I had (again, I clicked on Firefox a second later these appeared):

1. bp-5be82d4f-6d2b-420d-ad7f-af2031180213 2. bp-0f65723e-e6d1-440f-988f-21fa91180213

I'm currently reinstalling Kaspersky so we'll so if anything changes, however I'm starting to get the feeling I need to reinstall Firefox.
