Hello, I've been trying to install the latest firefox on my pc running windows 7 home premium, 64bit. I have cleaned the pc with ccleaner, run mutiple scans with malwarebytes and commodo antivirus, uninstalled old firefox programs and deleted as many junk files and programs that I could find. I have also tried to download with Expolorer rather than Chrome ...All to no avail. The following message details accompany the window which displays.. "firefox has stopped working", and firefox never opens to get to a "safe mode". I have used firefox up until a few weeks ago when an upgrade attempt failed. I would really like to use firefox again, but can't seem to resolve this issue. Your help would be much appreciated. Joe

Many have reported issues using the 64bit Firefox. Install the 32bit version from; Download Firefox For All languages And Systems {web link}

If this fails, think about installing an older version (just for now).

We're sorry to hear that your Firefox seems to be crashing when you open it. Please perform the following steps to give us a crash report ID that helps us find out more about the cause of the crash.

  1. On the keyboard, press [Windows] The image "Windows key" does not exist. + [R]. This should bring up a Run window that contains a text field.
  2. In that text field, type %APPDATA% and press Enter. An explorer window should open.
  3. From that explorer window, double-click on the Mozilla folder, then double-click on Firefox and then on Crash reports. Double-click on submitted.
  4. Now, you should see a list of files that contain reports. Go to View > Arrange Icons by > Modified to get the most recent files at the top of the window.
  5. Open the most recent 5 files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
  6. Paste each ID with bp- into the reply window on the forums.

Thanks in advance!

Hello Tyler, I got to [On the keyboard, press [Windows] Windows key + [R]. This should bring up a Run window that contains a text field. In that text field, type %APPDATA% and press Enter. An explorer window should open. From that explorer window, double-click on the Mozilla folder, then double-click on Firefox and then on Crash reports. Double-click on submitted.] however "submitted " does not exist under Crash Reports. There is a pending folder and an events folder and a list of Installtime.... messages . Am I missing something?

Hello, I've been trying to install the latest firefox on my pc running windows 7 home premium, 64bit.

Late to mention but I do recall 64bit FF don't play well with O/S that are 64bit that I experienced but with 64bit FF in Window10x64 I haven't had issues that would happen to 64bit O/S as compared to Windows10x64 O/S.

I too had the exact same APPCRASH as the OP, and the 32-bit version has also worked for me.

What I would like to add, is that by some strange coincidence, the installation of Malwarebytes 3.3.1 did allow Firefox 57.0.2 64-bit to run successfully in Windows 7 x64.

Specifically, it is Malwarebytes' Exploit Protection feature, as I've described in the MB support forum here.

With EP on -- Firefox 64-bit starts. With EP off -- the APPCRASH returns.

If you believe this is relevant to Firefox development, kindly forward it to the developer mailing list.

That's interesting.

Please do not comment in above bug unless you have something worthwhile to add as "Me too" type of comments is considered pointless comments spam. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/page.cgi?id=etiquette.html

fyi : I run Malwarebytes with 57.0.2 and have no issues on a 64bit system. You may at the worst have to uninstall Malwarebytes and reinstall if your version and Malwarebytes website version differ.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

@Pkshadow --

Out of curiosity, try going into Malwarebytes, and turning Exploit Protection OFF, specifically for Firefox. Then try starting Firefox 57.0.2.

That is where the APPCRASH occurs for me, and then strangely disappears when Exploit Protection is turned back ON.

I'd be most interested to know if someone else can reproduce what I'm seeing.
