[Problem after passing to Firefox 64 bits - now I've the 55.0.3 version. Bug already there after fix procedure of firefox and without plugins] When I want to save a file (=when I click on "browse" button), the dialog box of Windows appears and freezes (and Firefox crashes without specific error message). I'm under Windows 7, I've got comodo but nothing about Windows or firefox is blocked]. There is one week, this bug appears after some usings/download [I need to do the fix procedure when the bug appears]. now it's directly during the first one. It's very embarassing. I've got Chrome for waiting ... but I don't want to use Chrome ;-) help !!!!

[for example, I can't use the button "Browse an image" in this Web page, else Firefox crashes]

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Unfortunately, I'd already tried, it did'nt work.

Try to disable multi-process tabs in Firefox. You can disable multi-process tabs in Firefox by setting the related prefs to false on the about:config page.

browser.tabs.remote.autostart = false browser.tabs.remote.autostart.2 = false

http://www.ghacks.net/2016/07/22/multi-process-firefox/

Type about:config<enter> in the address bar. If a warning screen comes up, press the Be Careful button. At the top of the screen is a search bar.

I doesn't work better. (I've closed and restarted firefox, to be sure).

Just to precise : i see the dialog box but it becomes "freezed" (and the message "Firefox have a problem" (in French ;-) )).

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration in Firefox. Since this feature was added to Firefox it has gradually improved but there are still a few glitches.

You will need to restart Firefox for this to take effect so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.,) and then perform these steps:

In Firefox 54 and below:

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu and select Options (Windows) or Preferences (Mac, Linux).
  2. Select the Advanced panel and the General tab.
  3. Uncheck Use hardware acceleration when available.
  4. Close Firefox completely and then restart Firefox to see if the problem persists.

In Firefox 55 and above:

  1. Click the menu button New Fx Menu and select Options (Windows) or Preferences (Mac, Linux).
  2. Select the General panel.
  3. Under Performance, uncheck Use recommended performance settings. Additional settings will be displayed.
    Fx55Performance-disableHWA
  4. Uncheck Use hardware acceleration when available.
  5. Close Firefox completely and then restart Firefox to see if the problem persists.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

If the problem is resolved, you should check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in these Knowledge base articles:

Thank you.

it's not the graphics hardware acceleration. I followed the procedure (with restart), but it doesn't work. I've attached (with Chrome ;-) ) the screencast when it's freezed. Perhaps it can help you ? (I've desable my comodo firewall to be sure)

When I go to the download area (arrow icon) and I click on the button to open folder (it's not a button like "browse"), the dialog box works without crashing.

I tried with "save as" on another URL... crashing.

Note: v55 has been giving users problems. Reinstall v54.

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-older-version-of-firefox?cache=no Be sure to read everything here.

If you still want to downgrade, look under; I still want to downgrade. Click the Directory of other versions and languages link. Look for the directory of the version that you want. But, remember that old versions may have security issues.

I tried 54.0.1 and 52.3.0 (64 bit ESR) : no improvement I'm going to try to install 32bits version. [It's a very strange bug ! ;-) ]

It's work with the 32 bits version. That is strange is that the bug appeared after several dowload (ou save as..). [even if now it is directly after the procedure of reparing]

So for the moment, I will use the 32 bits version, I hope the the future 64 bits version will be with this bug. [I keep the 64 bits version on my computer]

Thank you.

Just to update this issue. I tried every new version, when there was an update, to check the problem. The problem is still there for the v56.02
