Counterfeit DuckDuckGo? Does not show official site after search.

Δημοσιεύτηκε

The past few days I have not been getting the official site label when searching with DuckDuckGo. Somehow it is not showing this or it is not checking the security certificates.

Additionally, for a few weeks, I keep getting a popup that wants me to: "Use DuckDuckGo as your primary search engine". DuckDuckGo has already been selected as my ONLY search engine.

For a while I've used the Firefox add-on "DuckDuckGo Plus", but I removed it and still have this problem.

I've read comments on the web that some people think this is a virus. So how do I find out if my version of DuckDuckGo is the real one and it hasn't been hacked?

I tried to add an image for this question, but it didn't work.

Additionally, I noticed in the details covering installed plugins, it states that I have installed Adobe Acrobat Plug-in for Web Browsers, Version 15.009.20077. I deleted everything from Adobe or so I thought. I no longer allow anything from Adobe on my computer. Is this part of Firefox 48.0.2 for Mac? And I don't have iPhoto6 installed.

Installed Plugins:

  • Adobe® Acrobat® Plug-in for Web Browsers, Version 15.009.20077
  • Provides information about the default web browser
  • Displays Java applet content, or a placeholder if Java is not installed.
  • NASA's Eyes Visualization
  • Microsoft Office for Mac SharePoint Browser Plug-in
  • iPhoto6

Just in case; Mac Malware Scanners https://discussions.apple.com/message/29938930#29938930

You can also try https://www.malwarebytes.org/antimalware/mac/index.html

Totally remove the duck. Then reinstall it from its home site.

Firefox includes a search engine plugin for DuckDuckGo along with Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc. No need to install any DuckDuckGo add-on or additional search plugin.
