HTML5 player consumes too much CPU time
showing exactly the same content in Internet explorer 11 or the current Chrome I see 1% of CPU usage... but Firefox 42 shows up to 8% - on an 8-core Corei/ 2820 QM with 2.4 GHz. Basically one core is fully used which is far to much than just simply decoding a 480p clip. The resolution doesn't matter, happens also with 240p, and doesn't matter if shown in full screen (1920x1080) or it's original size.
Firefox does these things to me: a) my laptop turns hot b) the fan gets loud c) battery is empty after 30 minutes
So finally for watching movies in HTML5 I need different browser...

How many tabs do you have open, this might contribute to the total.
. Currently the Nightly version of Firefox update more often then the stable releases of Firefox. It is on a rapid release cycle.
Also the Telementary data sent on the browsers can help improve the performance. There are also automated tests done to check performance of different platforms.
