Slowness , locking up for 6mths, tried reset etc, uninstalled & removed every firefox file incl registry files only kept bookmarks etc

Have had problems with Firefox freezing and locking up computer. Cant even bring up task mgr. I have tried all the cures suggested on line such as reset. Completely uninstalled Firefox, removed every file related to firefox. Removed all registry files relating to firefox. Remove all files relating to extensions too. Removed profile and extracted bookmarks and only added back bookmarks after fresh install. Was using Adblock plus so changed to ublock origin. Today was final staw, had put search in google and it froze. Could open fresh fresh Firefox window which also froze but eventually started working.

Would switch to Chrome but have used Firefox for so many years that I can't get used to Chrome.

Why approx 6 months ago did this problem start. Using XP pro SP3. Have tried System Restore but it won't Restore to any previous dates.

Has anyone any ideas please?

Have gone all through this before but will do so again.

turning off hardware acceleration improved things before
