After receiving an email from firefox regarding checking to see if I had the latest version it asked if I wanted to do a refresh. I had done this yesterday on my laptop with no problem. However today on my desktop when I done the same thing, the firefox browser came up and apparently my profile was lost as I lost all of my bookmarks, home page setting, etc. I found the Old Firefox Data icon which yielded a long list of Folders and Files under in a folder identified as c15bx6yd.default.

When you reset Firefox then a new profile is created and some personal data (bookmarks, history, cookies, passwords, form data) is automatically imported and the current profile folder will be moved to the desktop to an "Old Firefox Data" folder. Installed extensions and other customizations (toolbars, prefs) that you have made are lost and need to be redone.

It is possible to recover data from the old profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

Hello,

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

SafeMode-Fx35

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.

I went to safe mode and followed the instructions. This did not fix the problem as my profile is still not recognized by the browser. As I stated I can see my profile in the "Old Fire Fox Data". My question is how do I get the Old Fire Fox Data into the Firefox Browser?

The PROBLEM IS DEFINITELY NOT RESOLVED. Absolutely no progress has been made.

I was planning to try and recover data from the old profile. Then I decided to take a chance on doing a Foxfire Refresh, even though that was what originally caused my problems. My Bookmarks have been recovered. I do have another question. Before doing the original refresh I had "Bookmarks" listed below the URL address line in the same line with Most visited; Getting Started; and a couple more items. This made it very easy to get to the Bookmarks to get the dropdown list without having to click on the "Open Menu" each and every time I want to select a Bookmark. Can you tell me how to do this.
