I have a 3 month old ASUS notebook running Win 8.1. I have been a Firefox user for many years. I downloaded firefox 36 several months ago and found I could not view streaming videos from many places such as Fox News I attempted to find out why and could not so I have been using IE. I dont like IE as much and have tried Firefox again today. I found that I can not run Firefox health report either, it just hangs with the progress circle turning. I had two add ons to Firefox loaded, ABP and Ghostery. I disabled them and get the same results. In Firefox add on manager I see a report that says that java has been disabled because it is buggy.

I have pretty much a plain jane configuration and wonder why I have issues.

My problem is solved. I spent time last night reading responses to similar issues on this forum and found one that talked about making sure the correct Adobie Flash was loaded. Well I could not figure out how to ID my flash version so I decided to reload it. First thing that I found was that when going to the download site using Firefox the site would not open, just a blank page. Tried several times and the same thing. I then tried to go to that website using IE and was able to open the home page. I did a search and found that a specific Firefox flash was required. I tried to download the correct player and even after using the pull downs and asking for Win8 and Firefox when I hit download it downloaded the 64bit version for IE since that was the browser I was using. I wound up using my work computer to download the exe file and copied it onto my home computer and installed it. Now Firefox appears to work fine. One issue remaining is that the plug in for print to pdf is not compatible with Firefox 36 and I use that a lot. I'll look at the install notes for the newest version of Firefox and see if that works now.

Thank you for your help!

Mark

Hi markminnc, Thank you for your question at this time I would recommend a new profile, however it might be easier to try a Firefox refresh.

Try this first: Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles

And this second: The Refresh feature (called "Reset" in older Firefox versions) can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.

Note: When you use this feature, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences. See the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article for more information.

To Refresh Firefox:

  1. Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
    • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click help Help-29 and select Troubleshooting Information. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
    • If you're unable to access the Help menu, type about:support in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
  2. At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Refresh Firefox" ("Reset Firefox" in older Firefox versions). Click on it.
  3. Firefox will close. After the refresh process is completed, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
  4. Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.

Did this fix the problem? Please report back to us!

Thank you.
