Searchbar no longer works. I reset Firefrox and this did not help. Think it maybe Trojan.

Try to delete the search.json file and possible search-metadata.json and search.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder to reset the search engines to the default.

Firefox will rebuild the search.json file from the default search engines in the "browser\searchplugins" folder in the Firefox program folder and the searchplugins folder in the Firefox profile folder.

You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)

You can check if you have the XML files of the default search engines including Google in the browser\searchplugins folder in the Firefox program folder.

If not then reinstall Firefox to get all default search engines.

The screenshot shows an attempted search from the search bar.

Thank you for the reply.

I don't see the clock.

The clock would appear before the suggestions (to the left of each). It would not appear in every search, but would in most. It no longer appears since i reset Firefox. I still only get a blank page when I search.

Clock is probably misleading. It looked like an analog minute timer.

Thanks to you both. Cor-el's answer worked but I needed to resort to the uninstall and reinstall. Interesting that the last time I closed FF to uninstall it stated I had 52 tabs closing when there were only 6. Now I just need to fix having more than 1 Google account tab (again :-). Thanks again!
