Well I use yahoo but not bing so your Hubris in setting a search to yahoo has finally caused me to leave ff after many years, mid 2000's.

I'll be deleting ff when all my bookmark are transferred to Chrome w7/8 and Chromium browser Linux.

Answer not required as I'm done, just wish I could get my donations back. ;^}

hi, since you bothered to write a post here instead of just turning your back on firefox silently you might be interested in an answer nevertheless.

of course you are as free as always (during the last years users weren't "forced" to use google either) to set your personally preferred search engine like duckdouckgo or any other choice as your default: Search bar - add, change and manage search engines on Firefox

the reasons for changing the default search provider in firefox to yahoo are explained in https://blog.mozilla.org/blog/2014/11/19/promoting-choice-and-innovation-on-the-web/

If you want to restore the previously used standalone window to manage search engines then you can toggle this pref to false with a middle-click on the about:config page.

about:config page: browser.search.showOneOffButtons = false

You need to close and restart Firefox to make this work properly.

In the address bar, type about:preferences#search<enter>

If you miss being able to switch search engines without going crazy with menus, try this out;

Context Search {web link} Expands the context menu's 'Search for' item into a list of installed search engines, allowing you to choose the engine you want to use for each search.
