Where does the bouncing star appear?

If you mean the animation when you click the "star" to bookmark the current page, hmm, I don't know whether that can be turned off.

What bouncing star? Is it in the computer? In a program? Firefox? When do you see it? Can you send a snap shot?

Hi. I don't seem to be able to get a screenprint. I have a new laptop as well and the printscreen button is a secondary use of the end key which I think is FN/end (printscreen) but at this stage won't seem to function on that frontpage. You were correct that it appears to be the bookmark star, but I was very happy with it on the toolbar where it belongs, and not leaping around the screen. I can get the "bookmarks help" screen but there is no help in removing the jumping bloody star. Ta. P.

Take a Screen shot; Windows > Start > search box > Snipping Tool. Save the picture(s) to your desktop. Now look at the Reply box below. Do you see the button under it that says Browse? Click it and then select the screen shot(s) from the desktop.

Is this about the animation that you see if you click the star to bookmark the current tab or is something else happening?

I have been trying to get a snip into this window but can't manage it at the minute. There is a "bouncing star" which is an exact replica of the bookmark star, which is appearing FROM the firefox logo on the google search screen. I'm not quite sure where to get the actual screen address. Ta. P.

I know what it is. You are talking about the stars coming out of the Firefox world on the about:home page, yes?

Hi Phlippant, I use my own home page so I hadn't noticed that animation on the built-in home page. These things tend to change on a regular basis, so you probably won't have to put up with this one for very long. If you want to suppress it, you could use a custom style rule.

Custom style rules can be applied to web pages using the Stylish extension or by creating/editing a file named userContent.css. I have have attached screen shots showing the effect of using the following style rule in Stylish:

    background-image: url("chrome://branding/content/about-logo.png") !important;
    background-size: 192px auto !important;
    height:192px !important;
    width:192px !important;
  }

Basically, those are the normal styles, with !important added to override the temporary change to the animated logo.

If you prefer not to see snippets on the about:home page then you can set the browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl pref to an empty string on the about:config page.

Delete the "storage\moz-safe-about+home" folder in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed to remove snippets stored in IndexedDB and make Firefox use a default set.

You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

• Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
