I had to reinstall Thunderbird after getting an update/error message. After reinstalling it, my ScanSnap scanner won't send to my email anymore. I have reset all my settings to what they should be but it still won't scan to my email. The error message I get is "Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot fulfill the messaging request. Please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as the default mail client." I have Thunderbird set as my mail client right now.

This has happened the last two times I've tried to write a reply. I will be writing along and all of a sudden the screen dims and I get the blue circle thingy. Thunderbird locks up and doesn't come back but the red exit button is available. Of course, I lose all the reply I've written. I've never run into this error before and I've been using Thunderbird for years. I'm running v. 139.0.2 (64-bit) on a win-11 laptop, Firefox in the background but no other programs running. I clear my cache at the beginning of every month, so I did that this morning before starting any programs.

Recently I noticed that in ALL of my Local Folders, I can no longer see any of the content. The headers show like normal, but I cannot open / read the content (presumably contained therein).

I have tried repairing individual folders, but nothing changes.

I have tried eliminating the .msf file, but nothing changes. A new .msf file is created, but the content is still not visible.

If I try and reply to a local email, the email is empty with the exception of the subject. Even though it shows the sender of the email (i.e. From), neither the email address nor the email content is copied into the reply.

I am slowly starting to worry that the individual files storing the email content are corrupt, but if I open the content file (i.e. non-.msf file) with Word, I get what I presume is the first / oldest email, but nothing more (even though the files are many MB large).

Is it significant that I have both "Local Folders" and "Local Folders.sbd" (as folders)? The content within them appears to be similar if not identical.

My email is stored on a NAS which I can access from any computer on my network (presuming I have set up Thunderbird appropriately); can this contribute to the issue?

Any other ideas which might lead to such an annoying issue? I really don't want to have lost all my emails for the past 20+ years.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you make.

I am using my University of Florida email (https://www.mail.ufl.edu/), IMAP. When I turn on Thunderbird and I send messages, everything is good for a few hours. After that, when I send an email I get this error every time:

Your message was sent but a copy was not placed in your sent folder (Sent) due to network or file access errors. You can retry or save the message locally to Local Folders/Sent-XXXX@XXX.

How can this be solved? Only way to fix is closing Thunderbird or rebooting, then problem represents itself. But then I lose the sent emails.

Note: could the problem be that by Default Thunderbird saves emails in a different sent folder? Which is not ideal, because when I send from my phone or from the web things go in a different folder than when i send from Thunderbird. Should I tick off "others"? in the attached pic? How should I consolidate the 2 "sent" folder into one? Should I manually copy them? Or after I select "others", they consolidate themself. I dont wanna do a mess, can you please provide step by step instructions.

Have been unable to access Firefox for a couple of months (have been in and out of hospital so not critical at the time). I now find when attempting to access that I get as far as the two top lines of the screen coming up, but then a message saying no message found. I know that there are messages there, also my addresses and folders. Please note that I am a very basic user, so any instructions will have to be spelled out. Thanks

I have an e-mail in my TB in-box. The mail contains a hyperlink to Facebook. When I click on the hyperlink, I get the message copied above in the Subject of this problem. In almost all cases, if I re-click on the icon in the e-mail, the re-click takes me to the desired URL in Firefox. My Thunderbird is 128.11.1esr (64-bit). Why is the first click producing the error message? Would there be anything in the TB Error Console?

About fifteen messages in my in box show only the sender and subject. The content is blank, but had been there earlier. Messages after a certain time and date are showing, and messages before these invixsible ones are behaving normally.

I did a trouble shooting mode restart and it did nothing (by the way how do I get my preferences back?)

The messages show on the mail server site.

I've been a long-time Thunderbird user with a POP3 account (Google Workspace), and I’m currently dealing with two critical issues. I have over 50 GB of email data accumulated over the years, and recently Thunderbird has started behaving erratically.

1. Thunderbird consuming unexplained disk space Thunderbird is using a significantly larger amount of disk space than my actual email data. For example:

- Windows reports that the disk is using 65 GB, but when I check the contents of the Thunderbird folders, they only add up to 55 GB.

- There are no hidden or temporary files accounting for the difference. - The problem worsens when I compact or repair folders. Initially, the unaccounted disk space was about 5 GB, but after compacting, it jumped to 10 GB, then 15 GB, and eventually over 50 GB.

At that point, I backed up all Thunderbird data to an external drive and formatted the original drive. This restored full disk space (195 GB free). After copying the Thunderbird data back, everything seemed fine—until I launched Thunderbird again. Immediately, disk space began depleting rapidly with no visible cause.

I’m at a loss as to where Thunderbird is storing this data or why it's behaving this way.

2. Emails missing randomly Some emails are intermittently disappearing from folders. I have to frequently "repair" folders to make them reappear. This is happening every few hours now. Additionally, repairing or compacting these folders seems to correlate with the unexplained disk usage problem mentioned above.

Attached: Screenshot 1: Showing 124 GB free of 195 GB (i.e., ~71 GB used) Screenshot 2: Showing only 65 GB of disk space used based on folder contents (no hidden/temp files)

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Is there a way to sort Favorite folders? I've tried dragging them to a new order with horrible consequences. Instead of changing the order, the actual folder was moved to a sub-folder position within the actual folder I was trying to move to the position beneath it.

In other words, if I have Favorite folders: A, B, C, E, F, D and I want to move Folder D to the position after C and before E, dragging D to C will cause the physical location of the Folder D to be moved to a sub-folder position of Folder C in the email account.

If you then move it back to it's correct position AND folder D had sub-folders as well, you will then get the error message for any of Folder D's sub-folders: Unable to open the summary file for FOLDER D's SUBFOLDER NAME. Perhaps there was an error on disk, or the full path is too long.

BTW: is there a way to fix that error as well?

Im running Thunderbird and can no longer log into my Outlook.com email. I have the OAuth2 server protocol enabled and its been working fine for ages, but over the last week or so has increasingly failed to login. It finds the server but hangs on login, finally after a minute or so returning "Authentication failure while connecting to server outlook.office365.com". I have not made any changes to the settings. Logging into Outlook via my web browser works fine. And here's the weird thing- enabling my VPN to change my IP to another nearby OR disconnecting from my wifi and instead hot-spotting from my 4G mobile phone, which also changes the IP- the login works fine again. Seems Microsoft have for some reason blocked my Thunderbird login at my home IP from their server end- a Real pain in the ass. I cannot find any info what to do online- how to reconfigure Thunderbird or contact Microsoft. Help!

Thunderbird 138/139, Windows 11 Pro 23H2. While composing a message, after a few lines the app freezes. Both the compose window and the main TB window freeze. Only opening the Windows Task manager allows me to close them. This did not happen with earlier versions.

If I save the message every few seconds while composing I can get most of the message back and continue after restarting TB. This behavior is the same in both the normal and troubleshooting TB modes. I can't even find a crash log to send to Mozilla.

Where shall I look next?

Thank you!
