Hi,

I'm having a really strange problem.

I'm using Firefox on WIN 11 with my new LG laptop.

When I access a website's drop-down menu, it does not offer me options that I can make a selection.

I know that it's missing the 2 options - because when I try it on other PCs - it works fine. So the behaviour is different (and works) on other computers.

And the stranger thing is; it also does not offer the options when I tried it with Chrome and Edge.

I tried clearing the history and cache - and it still gives the same behaviour.

I called the Tech Support of the website - and they said it's clearly a problem with my specific PC. I would tend to agree with them - because I can access their site without any issues on other PCs.

I can't figure out what's in common amongst the 3 browsers I tried on this LG laptop. The only thing I found in common is this laptop!

Any ideas - any thing I can try next? Really driving me nuts...  :)

From the Syntax Error, it sounds like the WebResource.axd file is loading, but is somehow damaged.

That also could explain the reference error, if Firefox disregarded the rest of the WebResource.axd file after the syntax error.

What isn't clear is why 3 different browsers should have the same problem. There must be a common factor, such as a proxy server or filter through which the web requests are retrieved.

I assume you already tried rebooting this computer?

The iPad test suggests that it's not your router, but you may want to try rebooting your router(s) in case something has gone wrong there.

The Console tab in the Developer Tools could be useful to look for error messages. All browsers have a similar console behind the F12 shortcut key. Mine doesn't show anything unusual, so I don't have any pointers on what you're looking for.

I opened that page and inspected the link (right-click > Inspect). It appears to call a script rather than proceeding directly to the next page. (First attached screenshot.)

I switched to the Debugger tab and used global search (Ctrl+Shift+F) to look for the function called by that script. It is in a script file named WebResource.axd. (Second attached screenshot.)

Is your Firefox loading that script file? Does it contain the required function?

Thank you for your feedback.

I quickly went to the bad-problem-PC and found errors (SyntaxErrors and ReferenceError) when I hit the "Submit this Rebate" button.

Although I have no idea what it really means - nor what to do next, I feel like we're getting somewhere!

See attached screen cap below.

Let me know if this is significant...

Ok - as I continue on the bad problem-PC, I went into the Debugger tab and got the screen cap attached below.

Strange it doesn't show the WebResource.axd file in the Scripts folder, as in your screen shot.

OK - so I'm testing my problem-PC/laptop in a local coffee shop - just to try a different router/wifi setup.

I cleared the cache, cookies and rebooted. I went into History and selected "Forget About This Site".

Result: No difference, the original problem is still there. I cannot reach the next page after clicking the "Submit this Rebate" button.

So strange... this mystery continues...

Ok - so I'm back at home now and trying the suggestion to reboot the router and PC.

Guess what? It works!! I am able to get to the next page.

Furthermore - looking at the Web Developer Tools > Console tab, the 2 error messages are no longer showing up. And looking at the Debugger tab, WebResource.axd file shows up under the scripts folder.

Can't believe it!!...

Even more exciting news.

The original problem on the very first problematic website also works now!

I want to sincerely thank everyone who helped me along with suggestions and troubleshooting ideas. You've been very patient in guiding me through this "ordeal". At one point I felt like returning my new PC because of this issue (but realized that it make be an overkill). Thank you for explaining things so clearly to a non-coder.

A Google search shows other links that work for me, so it looks it needs a valid 'cn=xxx' GET parameter.
