Stop the prompts for downloading documents

When someone sends a file (.jpg for example), Thunderbird asks me which application I want to use to open it. I choose the application and check the DO THIS AUTOMATICALLY option.

But it STILL ASKS every time! This is annoying.

How do I fix it so that it asks once and then is done asking and remembers my choice?
