How do I restore selected emails or folders from a backup made with Export? I only want to bring in 30 or so (which were accidentally deleted). I'm using a Windows 11 PC.

I'm nervous about reloading the backup because it was some time ago (and I *really* don't want it to download new emails).

Purchased new laptop. Used export tool in Thunderbird to external HD. Traded in old laptop. Installed Thunderbird & attempted to import my email profile. Import tool requires zip file, but the only file on my external HD is a .default file. I'm getting new email but none of my old emails. Consulted Best Buy Geek & he determined the import tool didn't work properly because the export was missing required files. We further determined the export backup must not have worked properly.

Thunderbird has managed to keep all the message headers however the body of EVERY email is now empty. I had archives of email going back to the 80's and it's all gone. I tried to import backups again but TB throws away the body of the messages.

Note that there are many different email address formats in use from regular TCP/IP, XNS, UUCP, Mainframe 8.8, and others. The headers are there and show the addresses but the content is totally empty for every message.

Before TB gets a hold of them, I can read them so I know the data is there and it is TB that is removing it.

we are unable to sign into tundsrbird using correct creditials. we worked with geek squad and they senr our mail to webnet. the tech told us we would not lose any email that were in thuderbird. when we ckecked they were all gone. there is very inpotant information in there. We would like to restore thunderbird and retrive our lost emails.
