I don't think Arcgiving is really Performance but I can't find a better category. Is there a way I can get Thunderbird to Archive my 2021 files in Inbox into Archives>2021? I've done part of 2021 manually and need an app or something - but by year because I have to clean out first? Do I need to remove the 2022, 2023, and 2024 part of the structure to prevent them being archived?(again because I need to cleanout first)? Or would you suggest just archive everything up to and including 2024 and go thru archives to do my cleanup? Sorry this is very basic - I've only moved archives manually and need an app or add-on I believe.

Here's my structure:oops - can't use prt scrn to show you, sorry.

Any way that you know includes your Thunderbird profile folder (top level, to include all your profiles) is good.

If you have not excluded your Thunderbird profile folder from your regular back-up, then a regular back-up would be fine too.

For this purpose, I prefer a method that backs up only the profile folder because it's easier to get to if you need it.

To move messages from 2021 in your inbox to an archive folder:

  1. Use the classic search (control+shift+F) to find those messages.
  2. Select all the found messages.
  3. Drag them to whatever folder you want them in.

Back up your profile first. You should not need it, but you might. If you are like most people, you never back up. So I take the opportunity to remind you.

Thank you, Rick, I'll be able to Archive now. Regarding backing up my profile, if that is a specific narrow backup because I'll be moving files within Thunderbird, please tell me how to do that. Or, I do monthly backups of my entire laptop onto a hard drive and could do one of those backups before I do this?
