I am getting this everytime I try sending email. I am on macbook pro.

"Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent using Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.xxxxx.com for an unknown reason. Please verify that your Outgoing server (SMTP) settings are correct and try again."

Having the same problem with other domain servers too. Also incoming emails are not getting delivered to my inbox. Till yesterday it was all fine. I reinstalled thunderbird (version 52.1.0) , but still having the same issues.

Although my password for a gmail account works fine on my iPhone, works fine via Thunderbird on my laptop computer, and works fine via browser login at gmail, it is not working via Thunderbird on my desktop computer. The e-mail account and password are also missing from my Thunderbird list of saved passwords. This change occurred on December 17th, in the morning.

I have realize an unexpected behaviour of the Thinderbird. I suppose it is a bug.

Scenario:

1. You start a Thunderbird. It ask for password for previously configured email account. See screenshot_1.jpg ===Now I tried to upload the screenshot, but it does not, shpwing a rolling flower. ===I suppose this is an error on this site. ===Well, I'll try to explain the case without pictures. ===If upload function will start to work, I will attach more screenshots later.

2. You enter INVALID password.

3. The program fails to connect, of course, and prompts for further action. Varians:

  • Repeat
  • Enter new password
  • Cancel.

===It would more clear to attach a screenshot here, but the site does not give me this opportunity.

4. You select "Enter new password" and the program ask for the password in the same way like in step 1.

5. You enter VALID password.

6. The program cannot connect again, and make a prompt like in step 3.

There is an infinite loop. Choosing Repeat you force the program to connect, and it fails and returns to prompt like in steps 3 and 6, shoosing "Enter new password" you are able to enter new one, but the program fails to connect anyway and returns to prompt like in steps 3 and 6.

PROBABLY THE PROGRAM IGNORES THE NEWLY ENTERED PASSWORD AND REPEAT CONNECTION ATTEPMTS WITH THE FIRST ONE ENTERED AT THE FIRST SCREEN.

The only way to connect is to choose "Cancel", close the program, start it again and now enter a VALID password.

I see this behaviour in all version since 2012 for present time.

Platform: Windows 7 (64)

Remote server: IMAP server with STARTTLS

Hope this will help to make your product better.

Regards, Dmitry

I changed the password on my Yahoo account using Thunderbird on my laptop. I had to use Yahoo's new account key security mechanism. I then changed the password on my tablet via the Yahoo app. Now access to Yahoo via my laptop is not possible due to permanent unrecognised password problem, which I cannot solve, even by deleting and attempting tpo recreate the Yahoo account. I therefore have no access to Yahoo via my laptop, but access via my tablet is still OK. Help please. I do not want to create a new Yahoo account because my Yahoo ID is used everywhere. How can I solve this password problem?

Hi, Windows 10 HOME and laptop windows XP PRO...

TBIRD: windows 10 = 45.8.0

My ISP ("Roger powered by Yahoo") sent an email about changing security settings which OMITS Mozilla Thunderbird, (anything from Mozilla).

They've made it very clear in the past that they do NOT support Mozilla but is it possible that TBIRD 45.8.0 does NOT share the security flaws that other email clients mentioned in the email (outlook, windows mail, gmail client, yahoo mail app, etc.) have?

Thank you

Hi. I have tried to solve this problem for several weeks and then gave up...but now I am just missing too much content from my emails.

I am on Windows 7 with Thunderbird 45.8.0 (originally started with 45.0 I believe back in July 2017) and none of my emails display 100% of the images. I am receiving emails from Shutterfly, LLBean, other major retailers, my church, school, etc. and they are all missing images. It has been this way since I started on Thunderbird 45.x this summer (my old pc died, and I painfully migrated my ancient Netscape Mail to Thunderbird). My various troubleshooting has been:

1)My various iPhones and iPads with iOS ranging from 6.x to 10.x work just fine.

2)I have followed the popular article: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/remote-content-in-messages and that is set correctly.

3)I have tried explicitly "allowing" sites/addresses in the Exceptions area of the above instructions and that does not help.

4)Multiple reboots of Windows and restarts of Thunderbird are of no help.

5)Googling for this problem brings up the web article I pasted above...I have also found articles where people are in the same boat as me: nothing seems to fix it.

6)I have checked the View>Original HTML and that does not help

7)There is no firewall on this pc (at home) so that is not blocking.

8)For the rare emails that say "click here to see this email on a website" that works just fine (I use Firefox 57.0)

9)There are some emails that display a few graphics...say, 2 out of 8 that are supposed to be there. My guess is that those 2 are not remote graphics. I have examples but I'm not sure how you would like me to share those examples with you. I have attached the Source if that helps.

I'm pretty stumped as I consider myself quite technical. I love Thunderbird but I have to solve this because there's just too much graphical content containing calendars/schedules/dates/etc. that I cannot see.

Any help would be great appreciated!

I have emails that are getting constantly flagged and moved to my spam folder despite repeatedly marking them as "not spam", and setting up rules to direct them to my inbox. One particular email, from my state lottery, gets sent to spam 5-6 times a week. One or two will not be marked as spam or moved to the spam folder...they end up being delivered as normal email. This is getting really frustrating...any suggestions?

Spam email says I've made a payment via PayPal and has some of the numbers of my credit card. Neither PayPal or my bank account shows this payment as having been made. The email asks me to reply to them if I did not make this payment. (which I did not.)

(I have not opened the email, I read the contents via View>Message Source.)

I've tried to forward the entire email as an attachment to spoof at paypal but they've sent it back and want it zipped.

I'm using Win 7, tried right clicking on the file to send it to a zip folder but I don't have that option right clicking in Thunderbird.

How can I zip this email so PayPal will take a look at it?

thanks

version 38+ of Thunderbird was supposed to solve the problem with authenticating / connecting to gmail by adding support for OAuth v2.0. Unfortunately, I can still not send messages from any gmail account connected to Thunderbird. My account settings are as follows:

IMAP server: imap.googlemail.com:993 security: SSL/TLS auth method: OAuth2 user: (full gmail address)

SMTP server: smtp.googlemail.com:465 security: SSL/TLS auth method: OAuth2 user: (full gmail address)

At the first connection attempt, Thunderbird presented me with the OAuth login screen, where I was asked to enter my gmail password. After this, Thunderbird shows up in the list of connected devices in the google account settings for this gmail account. So it seems the new authorization flow via OAuth 2.0 seems to work, and yet I can only read incoming email, but can't send mail.

When I hit send on a message, Thunderbird very briefly shows a separate window / interface (I can't make out what it is, I assume it has to do with the oauth functionality), then hangs at "connecting to smtp.googlemail.com...' and after a while declares a timeout.

Sending mail through the gmail web interface and from connected android devices works fine.

I have left the setting "Allow less secure apps to access your account" set to Yes, even though Thunderbird is now connecting via OAuth 2, to eliminate that as the potential cause.

Any help appreciated, I want to continue using Thunderbird with gmail.

I forgot one of my email passwords. And it's still saved in Thunderbird that ran on Kubuntu. But now my Kubuntu is broken, and I cannot open thunderbird's GUI. The only thing I know is username and password I used to open a new session on my broken Kubuntu installation. Anyway. So I tried hacking the file signons.sqlite containing my passwords, using a tutorial on stackexchange (security.stackexchange.com/a/8819/222594). I could follow all the steps of the tutorial, except of the last one.

So where in the integer string can I find the encrypted Username and Password? And how to use Kubuntu's username+password to simply decrypt my email login credentials? I don't want to use third-party Password Decryptor xenarmor, because I distrust such hacking software.

echo "select encryptedUsername, encryptedPassword from moz_logins;" | sqlite3 ~/.thunderbird/*.default/signons.sqlite

I would like to protect access to the Thunderbird software on my PC by being prompted for a password (for the acct) when Thunderbird is first accessed/opened. I frequently download email (via my yahoo POP acct) to my PC and currently there's no security on the PC to prevent unauthorized access to email folders (on my PC) within Thunderbird. The master password concept doesn't apply here because email is already downloaded (thus not being accessed on an email server). Netscape back in the day provided this security feature and wondered if Thunderbird has a similar feature. Any assistance would be appreciated.
