My company uses PGP for all email and Thunderbird is the primary client. The new version 78 with PGP enabled appears to force encrypting subject line. This breaks all our filtering. Enigmail allowed us to disabled subject line encryption.

Is there an option to disable this while keeping PGP enabled?

Thank you,

Turned on 2 factor verify in Gmail, turned it off, now Thunderbird will not load that account and keeps asking for password ???

I logged into gmail through browser, turned OFF 2 factor verification. (triple checked its off from different browsers)

Everytime I logged into thunderbird it would pop a browser to ask for gmail credentials, I'd enter, it would ask for permission, I'd approve and then its says authentication failed and keeps popping new window open every few minutes.

I went to security preferences, deleted passwords for that account. restarted thunderbird, same issue.

I removed the account, restarted thunderbird. Went to add account. and same pop up and then it THUNDERBIRD BOX it says alert Configuration can not be verified - is the password or username wrong?

I triple checked the password from multiple devices and browsers and it works fine. None of my other devices, browsers logins are having any issue.

It all started when I turned on 2 factor. I turned it off immediately, but stock here now...

PLEASE HELP, I've been using Thunderbird over 10 years and I'm at a loss...

I get the following message when I check the senders signature:

This certificate can't be verified and will not be imported. The certificate issuer might be unknown or untrusted, the certificate might have expired or been revoked, or the certificate might not have been approved."

So, after converting the .crt to a .cer file, and trying to import it into the Authorities list - I get the following message: "This is not a certificate authority certificate, so it can't be imported into the certificate authority list." I converted it by saving it in the alternative formats but it won't accept the certificate authority. I don't understand why Thunderbird won't let me accept the risk. Can I do this without getting the sender's server address and port? thanks!

This was never an issue but the last 3 months all emails from a particular sending keep getting sent to spam. I have added the sender to my contact list. I keep marking the emails as "not junk" while they're in the spam folder and they get moved into the "inbox" but the next one that comes in goes straight to spam. What else can I do to get them to stop going into spam? I would think that after 3 months the adaptive system would have learned to adapt.

I have an e-mail address that is in a filter and that filter is supposed to run BEFORE the junk filter. However, every single e-mail from that e-mail address is going into the spam folder.

How do I get Thunderbird to: 1. Respect the filter that is supposed to run BEFORE the junk filter? 2. Stop putting the e-mail address in the Span folder. I have marked the e-mails from this e-mail address MULTIPLE time as NOT junk and that does NOT have any affect.

Thanks for any help.

With my old Outlook Express the programme wouuld not open without me entering a password. I could select whether or not to have a password to open it.... but I am unable to find out how to do this with Thunderbird. I have set a master password but it does not make any difference. When I go to the desk top shortcut & click on the relevant thunderbird icon, the programme just opens without asking for a password. Is there a way of setting one?

Using Thunderbird 68.2.0, I am unable to send email with "OAuth2" selected but it works with "Normal password". I'm using POP and SMTP. Gmail has less secure access enabled.

When I select OAuth2 and send an email, I get the popup google sign-in window. I enter my email address and password and click Allow. The window closes and Thunderbird shows the error:

"Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.gmail.com was lost in the middle of the transaction. Try again."

I'm using hmailserver on a standalone Server 2019 (not a DC). It's for internal mail only, and that's it. So set up for SSL/TLS on port 465 and STARTTLS on port 143 using a self-signed e-mail cert. There's no problem receiving, but unable to send e-mail with a a warning that the certificate can't be verified. Tried to "solve" the problem and I was unable to after a few hours. Overall, I'm not yet convinced where the problem is - the hmailserver program or the Thunderbird program. So time for a new approach. Instead of trying to figure out why it won't work, what can I do to "make" it work? So with a new approach I decided to see if I could find a work-around. I did.

Navigate to C:\Users\<pofile_name>\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\<profile_in_use>\ and open the Cert_Override.txt file using notepad. List there you will see the data for your self-signed certificate, but only for the incoming mail port. (Port 143) in my case. It will look something like this: my.mail.server:143 OID.2.16.840.1.101.3.4.2.1 CE:D6:4C: (buch of key gibberish after this)

Copy the above to a new line, and the only thing you need to change is the port number. In my case, I changed it from port 143 to port 465 since that's what I use on the hmailserver program for the SMTP port. Then save the file. Now now the file looks like this: my.mail.server:143 OID.2.16.840.1.101.3.4.2.1 CE:D6:4C: (buch of key gibberish after this) my.mail.server:465 OID.2.16.840.1.101.3.4.2.1 CE:D6:4C: (buch of key gibberish after this) Now you can restart Thunderbird and when you check the certificate exceptions you'll see the cert listed twice - once for the incoming port and again for the outgoing port. I now have no problem receiving "or" sending e-mail through my end-to-end encrypted hmailserver program.

Yahoo! sign-in changes from October 20 2020

Yahoo! Mail is requiring TB users to go through a procedure to continue using Yahoo! mail with its new security procedures (I think they want to make me use Yahoo! Mail direst - nuts!). I followed their procedure to 'Access email vis Thunderbird', which involves removing the account, then adding the account in order to 'automatically activate the secure sign-in method for your account.' Despite ensuring that the 'delete data' checkbox was unchecked, Yahoo! launched Thunderbird only showing the plain Inbox, without any of the sub-folders that form part of my Inbox that I use to manage and record history for various tasks/accounts. Quelle domage!! Of course, I had a back-up, so I copied the new TB profiles to a safe place (just in case), deleted it from AppData/Roaming and then copied and pasted the back-up. Result! I had my old history back. Two questions: 1) In copying back my back-up file, would I have lost the new secure sign-in data for Yahoo! 2) In copying the new data to a safe place it seemed as though it might have been large enough to still have the data 'hidden', i.e. the Inbox sub-folders were still there but not visible or accessible.

Any advice welcomed, I have the feeling that things will go wrong on October 20th.

Thanks

I recently migrated my Thunderbird profile to a new computer. Everything works great, except that Thunderbird just won't remember my password for the account. I'm the only user on the machine, and I'm only checking one account, so I don't want to set up a Master Password... I just want the program to store my password for the one mail account. I do get the "Do want to save your password?" question every time I launch the program... but if I check the box to do this, mail is not retrieved. (No error message, just nothing happens.) If I enter the password without checking the box, mail is retrieved. Same with sending - I am asked for the password the first time per session that I send a message. If I check the "save password" box sending fails. If I don't check the box, sending succeeds.

This has been consistent behavior for about a month now. I'm not just randomly entering the password incorrectly. It happens this way every time.

What is up? Is there any fix for this? I just want Thunderbird to remember my password.

Occasionally with Thunderbird updates I'll need to reenter my Google account credentials to allow Thunderbird to access my Google email and calendar accounts (usually I need to do this for email and calendar separately). With the latest version (68.2) I had to remove the old Lightning and Provider for Google Calendar extensions and reinstalled them. Now each time I start Thunderbird I repeatedly get prompted to enter my Google credentials. I logged into my Google account and removed the previous permissions for Thunderbird and Provider for Google Calendar to access the account, but it does not appear to be reestablishing the authorization.
