I'm running Thunderbird 24.7.0, on Mageia Linux 4.1, with the KDE4 desktop. Thunderbird was installed from the Mageia repositories using their package manager, rpmdrake. I have many filters that I have created on earlier versions of Thunderbird, and wish to import them. However, when I go to the "tools" menu, and pick "import", and then choose the radio button to import "filters", I get a message: "Choose the file you would like to import", but below that, is only a blank white box. I cannot click on it to get a cursor, and the "next" button is grayed-out and non-functional. Only the "back" and "cancel" buttons work.

The filters I wish to import are simple text files, created in Thunderbird, and saved to back-up. It appears that perhaps the UI is breaking at the point where it should let me browse for files to import. Is this possibly something that has gone wrong with the Mageia build of Thunderbird? -Or is this a common issue? -And is there a fix for it? Thank you!

I successfully downloaded the language file on https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-Us/thunderbird/addon/woordenboek-nederlands/ (Dutch language). A click on the downloaded file results in a new (email) message with the woordenboek_nederlands-3.1.3.xpi file attached. This not seems right (Duh!).

Question is: where and how do I install the language?

OS: Linux (Ubuntu 18.04) Thunderbird: 52.9.1 (64-bit)

Until recently, when I marked a message in the Spam box "Not Spam" it would be transferred to the Inbox stripped of the "{SPAM x.y}" subject line. Now the spam prefix is still in the subject line after the message has been marked "Not Spam". Can this behaviour be changed back to what it was?

I want to verify the digital signature of an email. The email sender has released a certificate .cer http://www.ros.ie/devcentre/email-certificate.html

I read help pages like https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/signatures https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/configuring-certificates and tried to import the certificate in Preferences > Certificates > View certificates but I could not get the email verification working. When I open the email, I see an error icon (red cross over an envelope). The error message is "Digital Signature is not valid" (see attached).

It seems there is a problem with the Certificate Authority but I can not find one and I can not figure how to trust this certificate or how to relate it to email signature verification.

I created several new tags via tags option and adjusted them to messages, but all of them except default one disappeared on the next run.

After log out/log in there remained only the default list of tags and only tag "Work" was adjusted to messages. I added my custom tags to the list again and it immediately checked them (in the list) as adjusted to the message, though their labels didn't appear on the panel. So, how can I effectively and permanently make and use additional tags? Thanks.

My current problem is, for instance, that I just want to change the default browser that is opened when I click a link in an email. Your solution page for this (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/make-firefox-your-default-browser) directs me to "preferences", "general" (no problem to find this) and then to a button "make default" that is just not there: my "general" tab window (see encl. screenshot) looks totally different from what you show. I work under Freshbook, an adaptation of Ubuntu.

I am trying to bring back my calendar after last Thunderbird update (63.0). The instructions I have found in Help indicate adding a string of characters by way of cut-paste into the ADVANCE (tab) -> Preferences -> Advanced. I do NOT see/have the ADVANCE option link. The display of Preferences on my screen is NOT like that shown in the Help instructions, but more like a text type near outline type of page with the Preference 'links' at top left and contents for each link displayed as 'text' when a link is selected. I would include a screen shot, but I don't see that ability within Thunderbird (only Firefox).

I am not a 'geek' when it comes to Linux and have - so far - not done anything in the Terminal. I do hope that whatever needs to be done to Thunderbird 63.0 so that I can - 1) have calendar back soon and 2) make it so that my Preferences will appear and be as fully option rich as it should be.

I haven't been able to install add-ons for Thunderbird for the last few weeks. I am running Thunderbird 45.3.0 on Ubuntu Mate 14.04. I did try the latest version of Thunderbird by downloading from the website, but I couldn't install add-ons on that either. I tried creating a new profile and that didn't help either. After I download an add-on, it is extracted in the staged folder under extensions in the profile folder. However, after I restart Thunderbird, the folder goes away. Here are the errors from the error console.

The shell tool thunderbird offers a -P control option that is apparently supposed to point to a profile. Is that a file system address? if so which file. If not what do I need?

My Thunderbird hangs for a long period of time (~30 seconds for a text only e-mail, up to 10 minutes for an attachment) when a message is moved to a folder. This includes the copy that is generated in the Sent folder when I send a message.

The window will gray out and be unresponsive for the period of time, and will require me to either wait it out or to force quit. When the program is frozen the rest of the computer will not be affected, and I can use other programs. Outside of moving e-mails I don't have any other difficulties with Thunderbird.

I am not sure if this is pertinent information: When I browse into my Thunderbird directory and look at the local folders I notice that some of them indicate that they are conflicted copies. (See image). The problem occurs for both the conflicted folders and the ones which have a regular file name.

I am using Ubuntu 14.04. Thunderbird is configured with multiple IMAP accounts, from which I save the important e-mails into Local Folders. The problem occurs equally when moving files from the IMAP server to Local Folders, or when moving messages between Local Folders. I occasionally compact folders and move old e-mails to the archive, additionally it has the same problem when I try to move messages to a newly created empty file.

google asked me to upgrade security a while back and whatever I did, when I open Thunderbird now it asks for a password to log in to the server, which I do with my usual Google account password. After trying to open one email this morning, Thunderbird started refusing the password when entered, also refusing to accept a changed version, and refusing to open this email, even when it has been shifted to trash. So far I have gone into Settings and tried changing the security on the ingoing and outgoing servers as per other advice for this problem. Either Thunderbird refuses to accept the alternatives suggested, or it says they are not acceptable forms of security. This included getting rid of the any security or putting in "OAuth2" as an alternative to a password. Meantime I can't send emails. though I did receive one in on my gmail account. Any suggestions?

I am trying to add a new email account to my Thunderbird. I go to Create a new account -> email, click on "Skip this and use my existing email" which takes me to Mail Account Setup. I enter my name, my email address (jmcarron@wavecable.com) and password. Thunderbird then finds and returns a configuration. The configuration does not work as listed and I got suggested changes from my ISP. However all of the options return the same message: Configuration could not be verfied - is the username or password wrong? Both the username and password are correct but that is as far as I get.

I installed T-bird successfully. Ubuntu makes that part easy. But every time I try to boot T-bird, the bass drum in Ubuntu goes 'boom' and I get this weird message: "unable to locate mail spool file." Well I don't know what a mail spool file is and wouldn't recognize if it crawled up my leg and ate my kneecap.

T-bird crashes and falls off the screen in the instant the drum goes "boom". I'm clueless, people. So how to I fix it? I love T-bird. I'm 70 years old and have used it since Windows 2K was hot stuff. Now I can't use it. I hate WEB mail, so I thought maybe you folks could help. Thanks for any advice! jimmythewriter@hughes.net
