I originally attempted to move a Thunderbird profile from a failing Windows 7 hard drive (D:) which I had installed in my computer as a slave drive, to a new hard drive (C:) with a freshly installed Windows 7 and Thunderbird. After several failed attempts, I gave up because every time I would start up Thunderbird on the new drive (C:), it would start only with the basic Thunderbird program without finding the profile information. Thinking I might have corrupted the newly installed Thunderbird, I then uninstalled Thunderbird completely from the new drive (C:) using the uninstall option in the "programs and features" of my control panel. I then attempted to reinstall Thunderbird on the new drive. I downloaded the installation file from the Mozilla Thunderbird site. It seemed to "nearly" install with the green progress bar moving almost all the way across. At this point the installation program had already installed the Thunderbird icon showing on the quick launch bar and the installation window said it was "Cleaning up the birdcage.", but the progress bar never went all the way to the end, no matter how long I waited. I then tried to start Thunderbird by clicking on the new icon on the quick launch bar, but Thunderbird did not start and I received only a pop up window with the message, "Your Thunderbird profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible." In a separate location I still have the original profile saved from the drive D: Since Drive D: still had the Windows 7 operating system on it, I disconnected my new drive (C:) and connected up the slave drive as the main drive again. The reason I was changing out drives was because whenever the old drive starts, I received a boot screen warning telling me it is failing and to push F1 to continue. The old drive takes 15 minutes or more just to start Windows 7, but once loaded, all the files are still accessible with Windows Explorer. It also takes a very long time for any program to start. (I am guessing that the motor on the drive is failing and it is running at a very slow RPM.) Since I attempted to move the profile from Thunderbird on drive D:, I can no longer start Thunderbird on drive D: either. I thought I might have corrupted the Windows 7 OS on the new drive, so I ran the command "cmd/scannow" from the command prompt screen, but it showed no corrupted files on the new drive. I also tried doing system restore on both drives, but both failed. I operated a printing company for 30 years, but closed it and have been working from home to care for my ill wife for the last 3 years. I managed to make a very a minimal income outsourcing printing work for people online, but all of my contacts for past and current work were in that Thunderbird profile. If someone could instruct me how to load Thunderbird again and get the profiles installed, it would be greatly appreciated. Since none of my Email now work, I can only be contacted by responded to through this forum, or calling me 24/7 at 281-463-1302. Thank you, James Galyon

I want to verify the digital signature of an email. The email sender has released a certificate .cer http://www.ros.ie/devcentre/email-certificate.html

I read help pages like https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/signatures https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/configuring-certificates and tried to import the certificate in Preferences > Certificates > View certificates but I could not get the email verification working. When I open the email, I see an error icon (red cross over an envelope). The error message is "Digital Signature is not valid" (see attached).

It seems there is a problem with the Certificate Authority but I can not find one and I can not figure how to trust this certificate or how to relate it to email signature verification.

Seventeen emails are no longer displaying in the Inbox; all that is displayed is the time and date, which is now identical for all 17, probably the time the laptop was shut down on March 22nd, possibly indicating an abnormal shut down. The emails are listed individually but do not now show the sender, subject or any of the text, but do display the return arrow symbol where an email was replied to prior to the error. Are they lost forever or can they be recovered from somewhere, please? The error is on a Laptop using Windows 7, not this PC.

Monday 28 March 10.20am I tried the Repair function suggested by Matt, but nothing happened - the emails are still all listed, but without any detail or content..

Thunderbird is not updating automatically. Is there some way getting to update? If not, how do I do it manually? I have TB 31.0 running on Mac OS 10.11.3. I want to update to TB 38.7.0. I've downloaded the DMG. Can I just run it and install it, or do I need to uninstall 31.0 first? Thanks

I recently updated my older computer from Windows XP to Windows 7 and forgot to print out my address book from Thunderbird. I did save the file on a thumb drive and when I try to open that file, my computer does not recognize the file ending .MAB and will not open it. When I tried to open it by adding Thunderbird to the Windows list, it puts the file in an email and still will not open it. Please help! Thanks in advance for your help.

Clicking Get Messages does nothing. I have to restart Thunderbird in order to download new messages - seeing email on other devices, and in GoDaddy web mail work space, so I know there is mail there. On Mac OS 10.11, Thunderbird 38.7.1, IMAP account. I'm seeing posts about this problem on PCs as well. Anyone find a solution??

For some reason I am not receiving new emails unless I close Thunderbird and reopen it again. I have it set to check for new emails every 5 minutes. It is an IMAP account. I have checked it against the emails coming in on my phone. I will receive them on my phone, in Thunderbird they are not there. I click on Get Messages and still nothing. I close Thunderbird and reopen and then they are there.

This has only just started to happen. They were loading up until a few days ago.

I have checked the route to the server and they are all in the correct location, and it is frustrating not to find the problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have installed the Lightning Calendar add-on on Thunderbird for about a year now. Yesterday, something happened and as a result the dates of my scheduled events in the Today Pane have disappeared and only the starting time of the events show up. Here is a screenshot, where you can see the exact problem: http://i.imgur.com/wYgQgmD.png

I have set the Date Text Format as "Long" in Thunderbird/Options/Calendar/General/General Settings, so it's not the same problem this guy had: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1114045

The problem might have occured after i accidentally hit the "Synchronize" button in the Calendar tab (screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/EvIHjpu.png), but i can't be sure as i didn't notice instantly.

Can someone tell me how to fix it?

Updating TB 38.6.0 to 38.7.1 completely eliminates Lightning add-on

Normal update channel; following TB restart, Lightning is gone and all references to it in Add-ons Manager tab are missing. IE., it is now missing from the listed Plugins and the Extensions page says "You don't have any add-ons of this type installed". I could follow the same procedures as previous question/answers relating to deleting "extensions" folder in profile tree, deleting extensions.json, etc., and re-install Lightning. My question however is, as this bug seems to be reported after every TB release update , why is it still happening? Is no one working on this, and why is Lightning extension so fragile when all other plugin add-ons transfer fine? My ID does not work in Bugzilla, so I have not filed bug report. I would include error log entries, but: 1) log entries similar to those already published by OPs in similar questions; ie.,

a."Could not read chrome manifest"
b. various coding warnings in https://addons.cdn.mozilla.net/static/css/zamboni/discovery-pane-min.css?build=ab8c0f4, 
c. various SHA-1 certificate warnings for https://aus4.mozilla.org/update/3/Thunderbird/38.7.1/20160323055719/WINNT_x86-msvc/en-US/release/Windows_NT%206.1.1.0%20(x64)/default/default/update.xml?force=1

and 2) there is no way to select-all/copy entries in the TB error console except 1-by-1, which by itself seems rather lame (if anyone knows what the log filename or SQLite location is I'd be happy to get it from there).

EDIT, 3/26 16:56 EDT: my "extensions" subfolder was empty, "Crashes\events" and "minidumps" all empty and there was a properly-populated "calendar-data" subfolder. So I went ahead and reinstalled Lightning from https://addons.mozilla.org/thunderbird/downloads/latest/2313/platform:5/addon-2313-latest.xpi?src=discovery-promo. Lightning 4.0.5.2 seems to install OK; existing events seem to come back! Even my user-defined Tools->Options->Calendar settings seem to still be intact. So I have no prob. getting Lightning back, I guess the question remains as to why the extension disappears so frequently after TB updates...

I cannot see any deleted messages in the trash folder for on of my accounts. This is a recent development, and I believe it started after the last update. I tried turning off all plugins, disabled filters, etc..... If I right click on the trash folder properties, it says there are "whatever" number of emails in it. At first I thought it was permanently deleting emails when deleted from the inbox, but that does not seem to be the case. But, I cannot cannot see anything in the trash, cannot highlight any text in there. My other email account works as normal, i.e., I delete a message from the inbox and it is visible in the trash folder. I have compared the settings for both to make sure they are the same. This just started and is driving me nuts. Suggestions?

In the (significant) time I have spent trying to diagnose this problem, both TB 38.7.0 and Lightning v 4.0.7 were released. I installed both updates, but I still cannot use Reply All or Send (nothing happens) or save a draft email unless I disable Lightning. One issue which seems to be resolved by this update is that drop down boxes have started working (e.g., changing address from To: to CC:). I am running Win 7 Pro SP1, 64 bit build 7601 on a Lenovo W520.

Someone has installed Thunderbird on my computer and when migrating the folders and files in them only the folders appear on Thunderbird and have names with various numbers on end. The total migration of all my folders was not done yet, we stopped to check if any files were there but could not find any in the Thunderbird Folders. Windows Live Mail was working properly until Microsoft Windows 10 did an update Wednesday 23 Mar 2016 at night when I shut down. Then I could not print to my wireless printer or any photographs would not show up the next day. Would changing to Thunderbird solve this problem and would it occur once Microsoft does another Windows 10 update? I am also using Firefox 45.0.1 browser. Thanks
