Today I upgraded from TB 92 (ish, not sure exactly) to 102 and am having a problem with unified folders.

I have five email accounts in TB, and use unified folders. In the previous version, if I clicked on a single account under Inbox, I would see emails in the inbox for just that account. Clicking on the top-level Inbox node would show me all emails in the inboxes of all five accounts.

However, in v102, when I click on the top-level Inbox node, the messages panel does not change. Whatever was there before remains.

If I click on the top-level Inbox node, then restart TB, which starts it up with that node selected, I get a panel that has various buttons for setting things up, about TB, etc.

Is there a way to go back to the old behaviour, and have the top-level Inbox node show all inbox messages?

Thanks

Transferring profile and cache from one Mac to another to preserve old emails

Hi. I have transferred the following two directories from one Mac installation to another Mac:

  • `~/Library/Thunderbird/Profiles/`
  • `~/Library/Caches/Thunderbird/`

The new installation had already created some default profile, so I updated the `~/Library/Thunderbird/profiles.ini` to point to the profile name of the copied one:

``` [Profile0] Name=default-release IsRelative=1 Path=Profiles/0######2.default
[General] StartWithLastProfile=1 Version=2
[Install712DAF56ABCDEFGH] Default=Profiles/0######2.default Locked=1 ```
With that, all the accounts and passwords are available. On to the issue: I have a cache of old emails from email accounts that I have deleted over the years. These emails are only accessible in the old machine, and are not showing up in the new one.
For instance, the accounts ending in `~` are deleted (on the server) and only show an empty "Inbox" folder on the new machine while the old machine lists all folders and emails within them.
Is it possible to make the emails from the deleted accounts accessible on the new machine, too? Thank you.
I have the latest version of Thunderbird and I just cannot get use to the aesthetic of it. It seems busy and cluttered. I would like to downgrade and found a website with older versions but when I start installation it is not in English.
Is there a legit place to download older versions of Thunderbird or even a skin that would make the current version look like an older one?
I was pleased to see that Mozilla has finally set up an official way to distribute Thunderbird using flatpak. This made me want to migrate from snap to flatpak. Unfortunately, I cannot get the migration to work smoothly.
What is the recommended way to migrate a Thunderbird profile?
I have tried Tools > Export to export the profile to a zip file and then importing it in flatpak version of Thunderbird. This asked to authenticate each account again and it started messing with the folder structure by creating duplicates of every existent folder, so I had to discard this option.
The second thing I have tried is to: 1. Copy over the profile to flatpak profile directory: $HOME/.var/app/org.mozilla.Thunderbird/cache/thunderbird/ 2. Start the application with -P option. 3. Create a profile and specify the path of the profile.
The second option started fetching messages from many years ago and I could even see a bunch of emails with dates 1970-... (I think, can't remember exactly).
Do you have any ideas what to do to migrate the data without the need to clean up anything or reconfigure any settings?
I am trying to move Gmail accounts from an old Outlook to Thunderbird due to new OAuth2 rules but can't get the accounts set up in Thunderbird on Windows 10: I installed a fresh copy of 31.8 and Imported emails and address books from Outlook ok. I then installed (upgraded to) 91.10 and tried to set up my existing Gmail account: I type in my gmail username and password and choose POP3 then Done and the Google Credentials window pops up. I enter my email and password and it asks to give Thunderbird access so I choose Allow. The Account Setup screen then says Checking Password and Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password... If I choose Done it just goes in the same loop. If I Configure Manually I can see all the info and pop/smtp servers are correct and using SSL/TLS and OAuth2 but when I try to Get Messages for the account it just pops up the Google Credentials window and after I put in the username/password again no email is downloaded. There is never anything stored in Saved Passwords either so presumably the OAuth2 token is not being saved? I have tried: Reinstalling Thunderbird (including deleting any leftover Thunderbird folders in Programs and User Data) New profile Ensured Cookies are all allowed Added https://accounts.google.com as specifically Allowed exception In my Google account it says Thunderbird IS allowed access (it adds another allow access entry every time I enter the Credentials) Disabled antivirus (Kaspersky) My Gmail username and password are 100% correct - I can log into webmail using them no problem. I have tried to set up 3 different Gmail accounts and all fail with same errors. Hope you can help as I am completely stuck now, thanks
I face a problem, I have mailbox archives in Maildir format, eg with email stored in separate eml files I find maildir format more convinient because many webmail allow to download the email in eml format so you can store and save important email outside a webserver (and before tags were invented, you could "tag" emails using symlink, so saving LOT of space) recently I begun to move my email from a big firm that didn't even bother supporting pgp in it's webmail and can read/access/get compromised my emails because of lack of privacy bothering to protonmail that support natively pgp. before, I had to create several webmail account to keep some privacy, because emails are now used everywhere to loggin... so, one webmail for opensource dev, one for administrative, another to mailinglists that i'm not sure I can unregister... so I reproduced same schema with proton, until I discovered simplelogin... so I centralized my mail into one account and used alias emails instead of multiple accounts, but I have some emails to backup, and before deleting the now no more needed accounts, I used proton import/export tool to download the email, and I have now maildir on my computer that I want to be access... I use thunderbird that I configured to use maildir for local storage, sadely thunderbird created it's own maildir structure, for example for the SomeDir folder in thunderbird gui : SomeDir.msf (thunderbird internal index file) SomeDir.sdb/ (don't know what this dir is for.... it's not in maildir spec...)
  | ---- cur/ (contains eml files)
  | ---- tmp/ (suspect it's used to store file while downloading?)
SomeDir/ (don't know what this dir is for.... it's not in maildir spec...)
  | ---- cur/ (empty....?)
  | ---- tmp/ (suspect it's used to store file while downloading?)
so I said myself, if I store my eml files into SomeDir.sdb/cur/ they should appears into thunderbird... but not... so I said myself it's because the msf is corrupted, so in gui SomeDir->properties->Repair folder this made appears some empty entries but in fact seems that thunderbird didn't detected the directories as directories but created empty email looking entries instead...
is there a right way to have thunderdird use existing maildir archives? or a way to have thunderbird open an eml file? this is really annoying that thunderbird re-created the wheel and created a format that isn't the maildir format... but says it support maildir...
thanks and regards
Hi folks!
I had to configure a new email which I run from the Thunderbird platform. I backed up a year's worth of emails in a ZIP file before deleting the old email (apparently I had to) and I have followed the instructions to import the old emails. The imported file appears in my 'local folders' section in Thunderbird but these files appear to be empty. I cannot find information or previous questions addressing this issue so I would appreciate any suggestions. The ZIP folder is smaller than 2GB.
Many thanks in advance!
New computer. Win 11 Thunderbird ver: 102.13.0 Set up my 3 existing mail accounts on the new machine; 2 work fine but my primary account cannot send (but it does receive emails). All accounts were created with identical settings (confirmed there's no misspellings, etc).
I deleted and recreated the primary account 4 times. Same problem each time I try and send an email, "can't authenticate outgoing server (SMTP)."
My service provider, Spectrum, doesn't support Thunderbird. Is there any chance that this SMTP problem is on Spectrum's server? Spectrum's online webmail service works sending/receiving email for that primary account.
Anyone got intel?,, ,
I want to transfer my email accounts and profiles from my Windows 10 machine to my Mac. Import failed. Following the instructions on Mozilla's site, I searched for my profiles folder on my Windows machine. Contrary to the instructions, which said there was ONE profile folder, there are 2: one in the "Roaming" folder and another in the "App Data > Local" folder. I copied both onto a usb stick, plugged the stick into my Mac installed Thunderbird, pointed Thunderbird to one of the 2 Thunderbird folders on my usb, and hit "import". Import failed. "Import failed unexpectedly, more information may be available in the Error Console". I have no idea where or what the Error Console is.
Any suggestions as to how to successfully migrate my profiles will be gratefully accepted.
Ubuntu 22, 2GB google takeout download, trying to figure out how to import into T-bird. I cant seem to find any instructions or guides that work for Linux. Tbird is installed and working, but all attempts to use import tools result in some errors about "Could not open the file at /tmp/tmp-profile-6/prefs.js" This folder (tmp-profile-6) doesnt exist, so of course its not going to open...there are other tmp-profile-X folders 1 through 5, but no 6.
I'm somewhat new to Linux, so there may be some obvious step Im overlooking here. Perhaps if someone could point me at a guide for such import?
I have had so much trouble with version 115 and looked online for answers. People recommended downgrading to 102, so I downloaded and re-installed that version, after deleting the file that was recommended from the Thunderbird folder (now I can't find the name of it!).
When I installed 102, it gave me the profile error message. I started to create a new profile and realized that will take me hours probably - I have multiple folders and email addresses in TB. So I decided to reinstall 115, and now it looks like there is no data at all. Help!
I'm using Windows 8.
Thanks
When I am prompted to setup the account, I enter my name, email address, and password. So far so good. It then says it found the correct configuration in Mozilla ISP database. I look at the configuration and everything looks (incoming and outgoing servers, username, etc.
However, when I click DONE and it starts the process of checking my password, it comes back with the attached error message.
Support page indicated e-mail migration from Outlook had to be in Version 31.8, then allow Thunderbird to automatically update to latest version. Successfully completed migration to version 31.8, however the About Thunderbird window states that "Thunderbird is up to date" and "You are currently on the release update channel." It does not automatically update to anything.
Alternatively tried changing profile pointing, also moving Local Folders mail to profile folder for updated version 91.4.1 also installed on computer without success.
Any way to convince 31.8 to update?
