I used mailstore and archived a PST file (have more PST files to do) but now I do not know what to do to get these onto Thunderbird. It called it "microsoft outlook". I clicked on "run" and it ran successfully but I do not know now what to do to use it in thunderbird. Please help

Just downloaded and ran the Thunderbird 91 release (x64 version on Windows 10) to upgrade from version 78.2. Now, every time Thunderbird starts, I get a msg dialog containing the text: "There is no email program associated to perform the requested action. Please install an email program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel." Once I OK the dialog, Thunderbird starts and, as far as I can tell, runs normally and sends and receives emails without problem. I was getting no such error msg with Thunderbird 78 when starting it. I re-ran the install a second time, but the problem persists.

I've checked default apps, and default email application is set to Thunderbird, and I can right-click on a file in Explorer and and select Send To / Mail Recipient, and I correctly get a Thunderbird email window opened with the file attached. Any ideas on what Windows is complaining about?

Hello! New Thunderbird 91 is out for some time - is there a way to export and later import account settings? I mean email settings (POP, IMAP, SMTP servers, credentials, email aliases, GPG-keys, etc).

Even if there could be find files in profile, that keep these information, at least I knew to backup them, e.g. using cloud sync client. Until Thunderbird gets proper settings export, import built-in feature. This means, that it would be good to export also application settings in next of account settings.

Also Thunderbird program settings would be needed to export, later import.

Backing up whole profile is not possible, as database is updated by every sync and then also cloud client starts syncing. Also Thunderbird profile folder is too big for syncing. There is no point to sync emails, as using IMAP and emails are already in server.

Having suffered three PC crashes in two weeks, I finally had to have a new motherboard installed. That required re-installation of Windows 10 and most of my software, including Thunderbird. Having done so, I find that my inbox is empty of read messages, the sent messages folder only holds messages over a week old, and all my local folders with their stored messages have disappeared. I can download and reply to emails, but TB is unable to save 'sent' messages to the folder, or draft messages to the 'drafts' folder. The 'deleted' folder is storing such messages though. 1. How can I recover my previous messages, local folders, and draft messages? 2. How can I save 'sent' messages and draft messages again?

Back when I used Eudora, I was able to install the program files to a second hard drive (D:/) which I use to store all my working files, periodically updating the drive with new hardware and copying everything across. That meant that if I did suffer a catastrophic system failure, I did at least have all my Eudor files and folders intact on the second drive. Thunderbird does not offer you the option of creating the program files folder anywhere but on the C:/ drive, resulting in loss when the system requires repair or updating. I realise that if I had known the system was going to crash, I might have backed up the profile somewhere safe, but that is hindsight and does not help me now. Any suggestions on how I may recover the missing data? Thanks.

Dear,

With the last upgrade to version 78.4.0 , most of all local folders are not anymore visualized. They remain present in the Roaming/Thunderbird/Profiles/.../ folder, but they are not visually present under the local maps.

What is the trick to let them appear again?

Best regards,

Raoul

God's morrow, Gentlefolk and folkesses. I'm trying to migrate Thunderbird to a new coputer. Horrified to see that the Thunderbird folder was 26 GB, I deleted thousands of old emails, emptied all deleted item folders, deleted all archives, restarted the computer and then went to check on the size of the new "much slimmer" folder.

After deleting masses of unwanted data, the folder size has INCREASED to 33GB!

What to do?

I run Thunderbird on two computers - MacBook Pro and "Intel". The Intel is older, runs Windows 10 using 1 T M.2 SSD for storage. I have purchased a new "Wintel" machine, also with 1 T M.2 SSD and running Windows 10. I transferred most of the files from the older Intel to the Wintel by uploading into Microsoft OneDrive, and successfully downloaded most of my older working files from there onto the M2 SSD of the new Wintel machine (not something I would recommend to do again, though -- OneDrive is slow slow slow). Note that the profile folder for Thunderbird is not included in the OneDrive group that was uploaded.

I have attempted to follow the Mozilla prescribed approach to transfer my existing Thunderbird files (and profile) from both the MacBook and the Intel machine to the Wintel. In the past, this worked like a charm -- I was able to move an older version of the Intel file to the MacBook about 6 months ago. But now, I can't get it to work to move these files to the Wintel. I have tried maybe 8 or10 times. Using a 1 T USB stick. Using a 32 BG USB stick. Trying either to move the /Thunderbird directory or just the /"profile" directory where "profile" is the random name.

The transferred files have two problems when opened in Thunderbird: 1) they don't have my username, password or similar information and this has to be reentered - which seems to reset the profile - it's like the copied files never are recognized 2) there is no file history (other than the information that is downloaded again from the mail server -- it keeps about 21 days of history). The multiple years of past mail data, which I want, is not available.

When I copy the directories onto the USB, it takes quite a bit of time (2-3 hours on the MacBook) to download, and the file transfer countdown suggests that more than 8GB of files were transferred. But, when I look at the file directory of the USB stick, I can't find files that total anywhere near that amount of data. And, the /"profile"/Mail subfolder is empty. And I can't find my archived mails.

This is getting very frustrating, and I am not sure what I am doing wrong, since it worked like a charm in the past. Is there an issue with v. 78? a size limit that I somehow breached with the additional growth in the historical files?

Advice and suggestion would be greatly appreciated!!!! Norm Whitton

I am using Thunderbird 60.9.1 (32-bit). I have two profiles, each with one email account. I would like to combine the two profiles so that I can access either email account without having to close Thunderbird and reopen it in a different profile. Alternatively, I would like to move one email account into the other profile so as to combine them. And of course I want to preserve all the settings, email messages, etc, for each account. How can I do this, and if there is more than one way, what is the best way?

Hi, I recently had a problem with a pc but before it all went south I managed to save my data including my thunderbird profile. I imported this profile onto a spare pc no problem. The pc with the problem has now been fixed but it did require a new hard drive and a clean Windows install. I have reinstalled Thunderbird and imported my saved profile, the first time I start thunderbird all is fine and everything shows as it should. If I close it and then reopen it I get this:-

https://user-media-prod-cdn.itsre-sumo.mozilla.net/uploads/images/2020-11-08-05-56-16-40961f.png

I have tried importing the profile a few times and reinstalled thunderbird tree times but still get the same result.

I'm sure I carried out the exact same proccess when I migrated the profile to the other pc with no problems so I'm not sure what is going on.

On 25 October 2020 I updated Thunderbird on my MacOS Mojave (v10.14.6) machine, from 68.12.1 to 78.4.0. I have 5 different IMAP accounts I access via Thunderbird. The 2 that are gmail "under the hood" are working fine. The 3 that are Earthlink are not. Specifically:

Given accounts User1 (the oldest), User2, and User3, all with Server = imap.earthlink.net, Port = 143, Outgoing = smtpauth@earthlink.net, Security = STARTTLS & Encrypted Password

• When I click on the Inbox for User1, the message "User@earthlink.net: Checking mail server capabilities ..." appears in the bar at the bottom of the Thunderbird window but never goes away.

For User2 and User3, that message appeared earlier today but is no longer appearing. Oops, it will re-appear if I click on the Inbox and then click the "Get Messages" button. For User2, if I go to a different Inbox and then return, the message is gone; for User3, if I go to a different Inbox and then return, the message is still there.

• When I click on the Inbox for User1, I can see the list of emails that were in the Inbox when I upgraded, and whether they are unread (bold type) or read, but I cannot view the actual message when I click on any of them. • When I click on the Inbox for User2 or User3, I can see the list of emails that were in the Inbox when I upgraded, and whether they are unread (bold type) or read. If I click on the message I can view it; if it was unread (bold) it changes to read (plain font). • The Inboxes for User1, User2, and User3 show no new emails since I upgraded. I have been online all day, although not in Thunderbird all day. I have logged onto Earthlink webmail as User1 and verified that mail has arrived today and that I can read it. • I have used Thunderbird to send email from User1 to a non-Earthlink account and successfully received it at that other account.

What's going on? Has anyone else seen this? solved it?
