I want to import an old address book formatted as abook.mab by 5-10 year old TBs into current TB address book. The only article I can find on file doesn't appear to be addressed to current software, I can't decipher some of it, and what I do understand doesn't work. Any thoughts?

I need to export a lot of emails from Thunderbird on an old iMac. It seems the import/export tool is not on the version I have so I have a problem. I need to get a plug-in to do this now. However, the version of TB is very old and I'll need a new version of Thunderbird to install the plug-in... So the question is - if I upgrade the old TB I have, will I keep or lose all my old emails? I need a sure answer to this because I can't lose these old messages. I don't want to import them anywhere, I just exported text or html for file storage.

Reading thru this forum I don't have high hopes, it all seems vague and complex (even tho we're now in 2021, no less, and ye olde issues rattle on and on). But a definitive answer would be useful to help me decide what to do. Thanks.

Just downloaded and ran the Thunderbird 91 release (x64 version on Windows 10) to upgrade from version 78.2. Now, every time Thunderbird starts, I get a msg dialog containing the text: "There is no email program associated to perform the requested action. Please install an email program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel." Once I OK the dialog, Thunderbird starts and, as far as I can tell, runs normally and sends and receives emails without problem. I was getting no such error msg with Thunderbird 78 when starting it. I re-ran the install a second time, but the problem persists.

I've checked default apps, and default email application is set to Thunderbird, and I can right-click on a file in Explorer and and select Send To / Mail Recipient, and I correctly get a Thunderbird email window opened with the file attached. Any ideas on what Windows is complaining about?

How to migrate 'Contacts' and 'Addresses from MS-Outlook 2010 to TB? the Thunderbird so-called 'Import' does NOT work.

Attempting to do so merely produces a 'window' that states

   "Addresses successfully imported from Outlook
    "No address books were found to import

And, surprise, surprise NO data is made available in TB !!! What is WRONG?

I have followed the instructions located here https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/moving-thunderbird-data-to-a-new-computer

but still cannot get my new computer to access my email accounts.

Apparently I have missed something with the profile or the proper path for it but I cannot figure out what it is.

Is there another step to take to complete the migration?

I am a Windows 7 Firefox user. A dying computer is forcing transition to Windows 10. I have used Windows Live Mail 12 for years, and have thousands of emails stored in 4 or 5 accounts on the old computer. The Mail program in Windows 10 will not accept a transfer of my emails and profiles, according to Microsoft Support (Microsoft Sales told me it would, but that's another story). Can I export my emails to Thunderbird and then transfer them to Thunderbird on Windows 10? My only other option appears to be Outlook, and that is the road to Hell. Thank you.

Ever since Nov 3 and the last Thunderbird upgrade, I cannot get my emails through Thunderbird, although I can send them OK. I tried changing from POP to IMAP as I thought that might be the problem, but I still don't get the emails. My provider says "not my problem." What else can I try?

I'm having some trouble here doing a migration from Outlook 2019. Whether in the latest version or version 31.8, Thunderbird is not finding my Outlook file. Currently, the file is in a non-standard location. Where does it need to be? Will it need to be on the C: drive (which is rather small)? Or can it be found on the D: drive?

I've looked at other means of importing. I tried exporting from Outlook into a CSV file, but Thunderbird does not see all of the columns that were exported. For instance, the email addresses were not in that second column to be paired. That's rather useless.

Another option that came up in the search of previous answers was to export to vCard. It does not appear that I have that option in Export. And individually saving hundreds of contacts as vCards is not a particularly viable option, either.

What would you suggest?

can't access Earthlink IMAP accounts with Thunderbird 78.4.0 (MacOS)

On 25 October 2020 I updated Thunderbird on my MacOS Mojave (v10.14.6) machine, from 68.12.1 to 78.4.0. I have 5 different IMAP accounts I access via Thunderbird. The 2 that are gmail "under the hood" are working fine. The 3 that are Earthlink are not. Specifically:

Given accounts User1 (the oldest), User2, and User3, all with Server = imap.earthlink.net, Port = 143, Outgoing = smtpauth@earthlink.net, Security = STARTTLS & Encrypted Password

• When I click on the Inbox for User1, the message "User@earthlink.net: Checking mail server capabilities ..." appears in the bar at the bottom of the Thunderbird window but never goes away.

 For User2 and User3, that message appeared earlier today but is no longer appearing.  Oops, it will re-appear if I click on the Inbox and then click the "Get Messages" button.  For User2, if I go to a different Inbox and then return, the message is gone; for User3, if I go to a different Inbox and then return, the message is still there.

• When I click on the Inbox for User1, I can see the list of emails that were in the Inbox when I upgraded, and whether they are unread (bold type) or read, but I cannot view the actual message when I click on any of them. • When I click on the Inbox for User2 or User3, I can see the list of emails that were in the Inbox when I upgraded, and whether they are unread (bold type) or read. If I click on the message I can view it; if it was unread (bold) it changes to read (plain font). • The Inboxes for User1, User2, and User3 show no new emails since I upgraded. I have been online all day, although not in Thunderbird all day. I have logged onto Earthlink webmail as User1 and verified that mail has arrived today and that I can read it. • I have used Thunderbird to send email from User1 to a non-Earthlink account and successfully received it at that other account.

What's going on? Has anyone else seen this? solved it?

Hi, I recently had a problem with a pc but before it all went south I managed to save my data including my thunderbird profile. I imported this profile onto a spare pc no problem. The pc with the problem has now been fixed but it did require a new hard drive and a clean Windows install. I have reinstalled Thunderbird and imported my saved profile, the first time I start thunderbird all is fine and everything shows as it should. If I close it and then reopen it I get this:-

I have tried importing the profile a few times and reinstalled thunderbird tree times but still get the same result.

I'm sure I carried out the exact same proccess when I migrated the profile to the other pc with no problems so I'm not sure what is going on.

The yahoo email address and password are correct... I've got some online hits implying that there is a security problem and that Thunderbird will NOT work with Yahoo Hopefully that is not true... Any help/tips appreciated

Deleting old emails massively INCREASES file size!

God's morrow, Gentlefolk and folkesses. I'm trying to migrate Thunderbird to a new coputer. Horrified to see that the Thunderbird folder was 26 GB, I deleted thousands of old emails, emptied all deleted item folders, deleted all archives, restarted the computer and then went to check on the size of the new "much slimmer" folder.

After deleting masses of unwanted data, the folder size has INCREASED to 33GB!

What to do?

I have tried starting the beta with "Thunderbird --allow-downgrade" but the version remains the same Beta 88.
