After upgrading my Fedora to 28, and my Thunderbird to the latestest in the repos (60.3.1), I get very poor performance scrolling through the interface and opening mails. The entire interface is sluggish. Rebooting in safe mode makes no difference. With TOP running, I can peg one CPU core just by scrolling or navigating between folders.

I have 5 address books. I understand about 2 being default. Over 300 addresses are completely disorganized among the a-books. I want to consolidate because the contacts sidebar on the compose page only displays one. Also, I want it organized in one to update multiple devices.

Elsewhere in these helps, there is a description of drag and drop between a-books. That web page does not seem to be in my version. The address book display page ONLY displays the 5 books consolidated, with no indication of which book they are in. I cannot find any way to copy or move or "drag and drop" from the contacts sidebar. Also I have no Tools/Options or Help/Troubleshooting/Show Folders..I did search the support.

I exported all the 5 books and consolidated the csv. But when I imported it as a sixth a-book using TBird, it only logically included addresses that were not in the other 5 books. I can imagine physically renaming all the a-book files to restart empty and then doing the import. Please advise me about my version differences and my last idea and how I could do it otherwise.

Using Thunderbird 60.4.0 x64 on Linux Mint 18.3, when I open an email (in a new Thunderbird tab) and switch back to the message list (by closing the eMail or switching tabs, doesn't matter), the browser freezes for a time. The time depends on the number of listed eMails (i.e., a folder with 1000 eMails hangs longer than one with 10 eMails, and in threaded view, the hang is shorter if threads are collapsed). The problem also occurs in safe mode, with all add-ons disabled. I also created a new, clean profile, synced only one eMail account to it, and the problem still occurs.

I have four eMail accounts set up, the largest of which has 15k eMails. My Laptop has a Core i7 6600U with 16 GB RAM and an SSD. The same problem occurs on a different laptop of mine, with similar specs.

Please let me know what additional information you need.

A while back an update (52.9.1) caused Lightning to be disabled and I was told it was incompatible with Thunderbird. There was no version I could download that would work. Eventually I followed these steps (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/calendar-updates-issues-thunderbird), uninstalling Lightning which was supposed to magically ‘come back’ after restarting. It did not.

So I tried reinstalling Thunderbird and noticed that Lighting was also packed, so after the reinstall made no difference I installed the package manager’s version of Lightning and it’s working again.

This leads to my question, is the extension system broken for Linux? Is it more reliable to install extensions from a distro’s package system rather than from within Thunderbird? This seems a pretty bizarre situation if so.

From what I can figure out, I think the Thunderbird extension system installed an updated Lightning that was for Thunderbird 60 (Lightning v. 6.2). The only version available on the extensions website is 5.4 but Thunderbird told me that was incompatible too. The Ubuntu package installed Lightning 5.4.9.1.

Creating multiple calendars on TB clients, be them local of network based, is no problem.

HOWEVER: if for any reason I need to get rid of a subscribed network calendar entry, I cannot do that. The calendar file location can be a URL or a local file, e.g.: `///home/USER/.thunderbird/lng69e5t.default/calendar-data/SharedGit-cal.ics`

After unsubscribing from the network calendar its entry disappears from the TB client's list of claendars. After either host reboot or relaunch of TB on the host, the unsubscribed entries come back (unchecked). The result is that some clients have 12 unchecked entries (from previous unsubscriptions). They cannot get rid of them. (I found no reference to that issue after crawling the net for a good 20 minutes.)

How do I rid my TB clients from ghost network calendar entries after having unsubscribed the clients from those calendars ? Cheers, -ced

I have been trying to add my work e-mail account (IMAP) and have tried several different methods of setting up the account but the inbox does not show up. All of the Edit>Advanced Settings match my bosses who is also using Thunderbird. After troubleshooting I found when I right click the inbox and select properties (see image) the imap server (under the red box) is incorrect and cannot be edited through the properties box. The imap server does not match the Imap server under Edit>Account Settings>Server Settings. How can I manually edit this value?

I have also tried the the manual configuration process from mozilla (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/manual-account-configuration#thunderbird:linux:tb38), but there is no option for editing the imap server after hitting stop. The default imap address is the incorrect one (under the red box).

Drag and drop as many as I want

Write "attach" to trigger the missing attachment reminder for the first one.

I used to have it before a recent update!

The 2 answers I found online don't work for me:

1. Thunderbird site suggest that by resetting 'extensions.installedDistroAddon.{e2fda1a4-762b-4020-b5ad-a41df1933103}' it should all work again, but it doesn't.

2. I also tried installing 'xul-ext-lightning package' but to no avail.

Please, I need help! I need my calendar to work! And I'm not computer savvy...

BTW I'm on Ubunto 16.04 LTS

In Thunderbird 60.0, when moving emails, a "thumbnail" of the email lines is showing, which will hide the highlighting of the destination folder.

In older version, I could easily move several emails from one folder to another and see the highlighting of the destination folder.

How can I change this back to the previous way?

When only moving one email, this is not a big issue (still a little one), but when moving several, it is, as I cannot know for sure at which folder I'm pointing. (Screenshot attached)

I've found that, if I drag in the left side of the lines, or at the top or bottom line, I can avoid hiding the destination folder, but this is not a very convenient way of organising my emails.

 I have recently updated to thunderbird 38.6.0 on Fedora 22 and now it crashes every time I start it. I have tried to sun in safe mode and this is OK. Made attempts to disable some addons, but no success. Maybe there is some clever way? Below is the crash report. What should I do?
