I have been experiencing slowness in Thunderbird, specifically with the loading of messages. It does not seem to be associated with IMAP or POP accounts or whether the messages have already been downloaded to TBird. Single messages load relatively quickly. The problem is most evident when loading any message found in a thread. It can take 5-10 seconds to load an individual message and much longer when that message is in a thread. The longer the thread the longer it takes to load. Troubleshooting such as clearing the cache and turning off extensions have not resolved the issue either. What is odd is that if I use an extension to view the threads, such as Thunderbird Conversations, there is no lag. Any thoughts on how to correct this issue?

Hi.

Since a recent update of Thunderbird 115.8 under ubuntu 22.04, the Calendar App “Lightning” has developed an error. When creating a New Message, the top 5 lines are missing - i.e the “End: (U)” (end time) line is displayed at the top of the screen. The only way to enter the Title of the Event is to drag the window down. Please see attached which shows the top 5 lines not displayed. Is there any way to fix this ?

Hello! I have been having an issue of character encoding being off in Thunderbird version 115.8.1 (64 bit). Recently, my emails have been going out with extra characters in spacing. All the previous posts on this mention an option that I can no longer see in this version. Is there an update to this?

I have tried to download FireFox, but my computer doesn't have enough space. My email options do not let me delete emails, stating an error, that there is not enough disk space. Here is the message "There is not enough disk space to download new messages. Try deleting old mail, emptying the Trash folder, and compacting your mail folders, and then try again." I delete all emails from my trash folder, and with it empty, it still does not allow me to delete from the inbox.

I just recovered a TB backup file to the latest TB. I have two existing accounts and neither will connect to gmail (as they once did). Account 1 shows nothing in the saved login window and I can find no way to create the login data and password to connect to gmail. Account 2 does have login/password data in the saved login window, and it is the correct gmail password. Neither of these account will connect to gmail and attempts to will produce unable to connect warnings and offer to update passwords. Inserting the password in this utility does not lead to a connection.

How do I repair these accounts to connect to gmail?

After restarting Thunderbird, "Favorite Folders" Folder Mode doesn't display unified folders, even though they are marked as favorites.

I mark my unified Inbox and Sent folders as Favorite Folders, and they display correctly in "Favorite Folders" Folder Mode in the folder pane, until I shut Thunderbird down and restart it. Then, still in "Favorite Folders" Folder Mode, those folders are not displayed in the folder pane, even though they remain marked as a Favorite Folder when I right-click on either one.

Opening "Unified Folders" Folders Mode, unchecking Favorite Folder and then re-checking Favorite Folder for the Inbox and Sent folders solves the problem, and they again reappear in "Favorite Folders" Folder Mode.

Is there a way to ensure "Favorite Folders" Folder Mode always recognizes that a folder has been selected as a favorite?

TB 115.8.0 on Windows 11 Home.

Since some weeks I have problems with getting and sending mail through Thunderbird via Gmail.

When I push the download symbol Thunderbird tries to get mails but nothing happens. Then after a while mails might be downloaded.

When I send an email I sometimes get error message that it could not be sent. And that the email can be copied in a draft-folder.

I use imap.

For a start, I created a backup of my profile location: cp -R ~/.thunderbird ~/.thunderbird_backup

Got a prompt to update my password for a gmail account. Upon entering the credentials, I click allow on the gmail window for giving access, and then it redirects to another window of "yourdomain.com" from which there's nowhere to proceed to skip.

I removed the account and re-entered it but the same window/bug appears.

Can't find something online with the same issue.

I haven't touched any settings far as I know and it's only happening to a few emails.

in some strange turn of events, it appears that all the messages that I had carefully tagged are now not visible or not available anymore. I don't know what I did (but I'm also rather new to TB).

I had tagged and the archive'd many (1000's of) messages. Until few hours ago, the messages were visible when exploring the tagged messages . The tags themselves are still visible in the Tabs pane, but all the messages inside not anymore.

The count of emails in the inbox seems to be correct, so maybe (hopefully) those tagged messages were not deleted. I've already run TB in 'Troubleshoot mode': doing that, the tags are not visible anymore either (and I have no easy way to know if one of the tagges messages previously stored there are still there).

The tagged emails are from an IMAP account. I am on version 115.9.0 (64-bit), MacOS 13.6.3 (22G436), cpu M1Pro.

Any advice highly appreciated.

Since +/- 19 March 2024 I've been unable to connect Thunderbird to Mailfence. I have a paid subscription with Mailfence. The error message I'm getting is "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password." - see attachment.

I'm using the exact same credentials by doing a copy & paste to successfully sign into Thunderbird via a browser. I'm using the defaulted Mailfence connection as shown in the attachments. On Thunderbird version 115.9.0.

I often forward spam emails to the Anti-Phishing Working Group (APWG) in my fight against phishing. I always do so in attachment format, as APWG requests. However, if any individual attachment spam exceeds about 150K (give or take a few K's), the whole message gets rejected due to a (very) old SMTP (RFC2821) protocol limiting line length (998 relevant characters) within the message as measured by carriage return/line feed (CRLF). I think the rule is delineated as 4.5.3.1 within RFC. I can still forward such messages as attachments via Gmail, and I believe Yahoo, but not if I use Thunderbird as a suite to send. Is this a deficiency on Thunderbird's part, a bug, or something they intentionally have in place? And is there a workaround-?

Windows 10 Dell computer / Thunderbird 115.9.0 I attempted to move an Inbox folder (with subfolders) from one location to another in Inbox. Thunderbird crashed; only the menu line was visible, and it would not respond to any keystroke or mouse movement. I shut down the computer and restarted it. It took longer than usual, but the Windows home screen did come up, and all the program icons appeared, including Thunderbird's. I started Thunderbird, and to my horror, it opened with NONE of my folders. All the server information and settings for the two usernames I have (one for Gmail and one for Windows), but on the home screen, below the Inbox icon at the upper left, there was nothing below it -- no Sent/Trash/Junk/etc. icons at all.

UPDATE (4/3/2024): I updated to the very latest version of Tbird, then started it up in the Trouble-shooting Mode -- ALL the folders and messages showed up! When I switched back to regular mode, they all disappeared as before. I deleted the two add-ons I had active, and attempted to restart in Normal mode. It did restart, but with nothing visible. Restarting in Trouble-shooting mode brought everything back to normal. So it's not the add-ons that are problems, and it's not the Dark mode.

What else can I try to solve the problem?

I run Windows 10 Home on a PC and Thunderbird 115.9.0 (32-bit). Event and Task reminders popup OK after windows startup, but not after a second user account logs on to the PC, or Windows has run for a while. However the taskbar always indicates a reminder. It would appear that the popup is active, but the dimensions are 0 x 0 pixels. To workaround, I use Alt-Enter and Size to drag the popup window larger so that the text becomes visible.

this happened after a reboot i forced because the address book failed to work (seemed empty) and thunderbird claimed it couldn't close down

next thing i know on reboot is dead 'bird

and all i get is a window with the info shown in the image below


the win10 install suggested errors on the c: drive (since fixed, but the problem remains)

what is going on and how can i fix it barring a fresh install and losing a lot of interim mail and all my filters i would be happy enough to simply retrieve the profile (and missing emails) and start from scratch

the only profile with a current date is called ja9848vt.default-release and is a mere 37mb with 706 files

is all the previous *.default completely lost?
