Folder and contents deleted on update to 115.7.0

Hello,

I have started using Thunderbird these past few weeks as part of a move away from Gmail. I made some folders and setup some message filters to automatically sort my emails into those folders, to replicate my tags in Gmail. When I was doing this, one folder failed to create initially (let's call it "myFolder"). It simply wouldn't appear after trying to create it, even on repeated attempts, although I could still create other folders fine with a different name (so presumably myFolder was partially created somewhere in the backend and couldn't be overwritten). Anyway, I managed to solve this eventually, although I forget how. Maybe just refreshing the connection or restarting the program.

Anyway, this morning I updated to 115.7.0 (32-bit), and on applying the update I managed to briefly catch a message when the program restarted saying "Deleting myFolder". And sure enough, that folder has been deleted along with all of its email contents (which is rather a lot of emails!). There is nothing in the Archives nor Deleted folders. All of my other folders are still intact just fine. If I go to my \ImapMail\[server]\INBOX.sbd folder, I can see all the other folders there, but not the deleted myFolder one. And same story if I look in the folderCache.json or folderTree.json files.

I can also access the account in question via RoundCube and SquirrelMail web interface. In the former it shows all the other IMAP folders I created in Thunderbird, but not the one deleted on update. In the latter it shows the first folder I created in Thunderbird, but none of the rest (I think myFolder was the second or third I created).

I cannot see any kind of backup profile. I only appear to have an empty .default profile, and the active .default-release profile. There is also nothing new in my Windows Recycle Bin.

1. Can someone please help firstly with recovering the lost folder? Or at least all my emails that were in it?

2. As a second priority I would obviously be interested to learn what caused this, and how to avoid any risk of it happening again in the future? I am amazed that Thunderbird would automatically and permanently delete large numbers of emails in one go both locally and off the server, without any user interaction/confirmation, and without any way to undo it?

Might it be safer to just use local Tags in Thunderbird rather than synced IMAP folders? I wasn't sure how to manage those automatically with filters, but now I have found a suggestion advising that it can be done with Saved Searches. If I create a new Saved Search Folder, I presume that would then just be a local view folder which I could filter by tags into, and wouldn't have any impact on the server?

Best wishes,

Brian

Running TB 115.7.0 on Windows 10 Educational. When I reply to an email on Thunderbird (on either of my two desktops) it shows up on both machines with the little arrow showing that I have replied. But if I reply on webmail (Outlook 365) the replied-to arrow never shows up on Thunderbird. The email will have a replied-to icon in Outlook 365 webmail, but Thunderbird doesn't show it. It's like TB can only see its own replies rather than all the replies that Outlook registers.

I have 12 email accounts for different activities I am involved with.

Why does Thunderbird keep downloading old emails everytime it restarts? Am I meant to keep Thunderbrd running all the time? Doesn't Thunderbird store downloaded emails on the PC?

Thunderbird 115.6.0 (64-bit) on linux.

I have a profile that is outside the default location /home/user/.thunderbird Modified /home/user/.thunderbird/profiles.ini accordingly to point to location of external profile. After starting thunderbird, it does not start a web browser after clicking on a link in an email. The setting (via Edit>Settings>) under the section Files and Attachments for http contained empty selection. I change the selection to use default web browser. After restarting thunderbird, the http setting reverts back to empty selection

Any recommendation to fix this is greatly appreciated. Thanks

So, like I said in the title...my Thunderbird minimizes to the tray, and every time I open it from the tray, it isn't opened full screen...maximized. It is restored down....like when you press that middle button, left from the X. I don't know it is called, it says Restore down when you hover it. I'm using the latest x64 bit version, and my OS is Win10 Pro. Let me just say, that it happens only if I leave my PC for a longer period of time, couple of hour and it goes to sleep. Once it's awaken, opening Thunderbird is not the issue anymore. Only the first time. Any ideas?

Since update to 115.7.0 that took place on 1/22/2024, ALL my local folders are stripped of content and new emails I have put into a folder have disappeared when I come back to the folder. In one case, when I clicked on a folder, the emails were there and quickly disappeared within one second.

I now have none of the emails I have been saving on Thunderbird for more than 20 years!!!!!!! I was around when the first version was released.

Hello folks,

Have been trying to sort this problem for last couple of weeks with some limited success, first up I would say it may not be a Thunderbird issue but need to eliminate this along the way.

Problem relates to simple drag and drop functionality within Windows Explorer, selecting a file from right hand pane then left clicking before dragging to new folder location would cause unpredictable results, typically grabbing a whole tree of other folders and moving those too, the exact same problem applied to Thunderbird when moving emails either individually or as a group.

Desktop PC running Win 10 Pro, it does have a fancy graphics card with competing drivers, uninstalled everything and reinstalled with a clean install - this resolved the problem (so far) with Windows Explorer but puzzlingly has made no difference to Thunderbird, options tried so far include:

Using a different mouse Selecting 'click lock' from mouse controls - this works but it does feel a bit awkward Using another email client Outlook for desktop, doesn't seem as pronounced but still a bit awkward. Reverting back to Windows basic default graphics driver, all works as should but looks terrible

Has anyone come across this behaviour before?

Thanks

Thunderbird 115.6.0 on Linux. I'm trying to print a long email thread which includes many "replied" messages. The most recent message in the thread prints fine. As each successive message prints the margins get wider and the column of text gets smaller. At about page 22 I'm down to two or three words per line. Aside from making the text unreadable this phenomenon greatly increases the number of pages to print as fewer and fewer word get printed per page. By page 31 I'm down to one letter per line, withal resulting in 219 pages of mostly unreadable "lines" of single letters. Is there a setting to cancel this continuous indenting per message?
