Title. Thunderbird is a really cool client but it's pretty slow. I blame that on the thousands upon thousands of emails that my hotmail and gmail each hold. I don't necessarily want to delete these emails, but I have seldom a reason to have any email older than 2 months in my thunderbird client slowing and crashing the program whenever I want to combine inboxes.

To this end I went to "Synchronization & Storage" and told it to "Synchronize the most recent 2 months" but it didn't delete the huge cluster of older emails. The next option is to tell TB to delete these emails in the same menu but as I understand it that would also delete them in the server, which I don't want to do for posteriority.

What do I do?

This is the message I get when trying to send emails: "Sending of the message failed. An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: pgbentley101@gmail.com recipient rejected. Please check the message recipient "pgbentley101@gmail.com" and try again."

I use Thunderbird for 4 Google email accounts and 1 Sasktel email account. All 5 accounts are IMAP. Sometime within the last few days, hundreds of sent emails have gone missing from one of the Google email accounts, and the single Sasktel email account.

I haven't made any changes.

My disk cleaner is set to leave Thunderbird alone.

Thunderbird updates automatically. Could the most recent update have somehow deleted my emails?

Is there any way to get those sent emails back on my laptop? I see that they still exist on the Sasktel and Gmail servers (if that's the right terminology)?

I work with my tabs a lot. When I open an attachment, Thunderbird opens a new tab and buts the content of the attachment (pdf) into a new tab. Often I need to save my work and stop working that day, and just let my computer go into sleep mode with Thunderbird still open in windows. In the previous versions, I could just start working the next day, and all my tabs are populated with the attachments and information I left open the day before. With this new update 115.4.2 (32-bit) it does not retain any of the information in any of the tabs that were previously left open. It only happens when the computer has been sleeping overnight or for an extended period of time. If I put the computer to sleep and then wake it up pretty quickly it keeps the tabs just fine. Very frustrating

Get red error when i write email adresses manually in the To field. Only way to put in adresses is first create an entry in the adressbook and then from the adressbook add the emailadress to the email To fields. Thunderbird version 115.4.1 (64-bit)

This started two days ago and I've been searching the web for solutions, but all I get are outdated solutions that won't wonk on my current Thunderbird version 115.4.2. When I open the Thunderbird window, two smaller windows open asking for me to enter the passwords for the two att.net accounts. I assumed they meant my AT&T passwords but when I entered them they came back as "failed". I then tried the "master" password I put in several years ago (which I have never needed to re-enter) and that didn't work either. I am attaching a photo of what comes up when I open Thunderbird. You can see the two boxes that want me to enter the passwords but I have no idea what to enter. If it wasn't my master password or my AT&T passwords for each account, it must have been something I used when I installed Thunderbird ten years ago that somehow got deleted or lost.

I downloaded another email client to use temporarily until I get my Thunderbird fixed so I can not get my emails, but I hate this new client for a lot of reasons that are irrelevant here. I hate this new client and I need my Thunderbird back. Can anyone give me any idea on how to find the right password or to change the password so it will work again?

Hi, I use a old Thunderbird version (38) for Windows Serveur 2003 and I can't connect a Microsoft 365 account. He indicate " A error with login or password" (screenshot in attachment). My password is correct, because it is OK with an other computer with recent Windows and Thunderbird version. I think the problem is with OAuth. Do you have a solution ? Thank you for your support.

Recent update switched all folder to show messages grouped into threads. This makes it harder to find new messages. As a result I did not see an email inviting me to a job interview for 2 months. Far too late to act on it.

Updates should NOT change any configuration settings. This is NOT acceptable.

Also, I have a lot of folders. There seems to be no way to set them all to unthreaded all at once. So now, I have to go through them one by one changing them back to the way it was.

I needed that job desperately and now I'm screwed. If I don't find a job in the next couple of weeks, I could be homeless.

The irony is that I have over 35 years of experience writing software but I can't find a job because of age discrimination.

The page layout and functionality has changed. I keep getting a message about imap! I have not made any changes to anything. It's just not working, i am very lost with it. Help please. John K-D

Since updating to 115.4.1 under Windows 11 (fully updated), Thunderbird regularly (about every 24-48 hours) freezes up and needs to be shut down with Task Manager. What's up??

Hello, as soon as TB Thunderbird was auto updated to the new version 115.4.1 (64-bit) 2 weeks ago, it keeps freezing randomly but often for several seconds when you click inbox folders from Any Emails I have: Private, Outlook, Yahoo, or Google.

It does also freeze randomly while I write emails or I check other folders. It take so much longer to deal with emails all together.

It tends to do it if the program has been opened recently but also in the midle of the day or while writing emails, for no reasons.

The previous version was also slower but was at least manageable.

What is going on? Any hints or different solutions are appreciated. Best Regards, Chris

I use Thunderbird with my gmail account. When I run Thunderbird on my computer, I don't load any emails (I do get emails on my iPhone). I get this error message: "Authentication failure while connecting to server imap.gmail.com." What does this mean and what should I do?

Cannot send or reply to emails. Can receive them fine. Alert message says "An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded >jlheiman@charter.net< sender rejected. Check account address settings and try again." Account settings are correct. What do I do?

Hello, I'm using Thunderbird (and before Netscape Messenger) already 30 years. With this new version 115.4.1 (32-Bit) I'm now experiencing the symptom, that, when I reopen one of the mailboxes the focus is not in this mailbox on the last read mail as it was always in earlier versions, it now focusses somewhere so that you always have to scroll to the point where you have been last time.

I'm using Thunderbird with my hotmail account and have never had a problem before yesterday. Now I get this error message. "Unable to write the email to the mailbox. Make sure the file system allows you write priviledges." Can anyone advise on this? Temporary email is accounts@gardendesignernorthdevon.co.uk

New installation of Thunderbird on WIndows11 - cannot send mail - get the follwoing error message: "outgoing server smptgo.lanlime.com failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing connections. Please verify that your outgoing server SMTP setttings are correct." WHERE DO I LOOK TO FIND THESE SETTINGS///

Hello, Since the update to Thunderbird Supernova from version 102 upwards, emails in several email folders are automatically deleted or hidden. The properties in the respective folders are listed under Retention rules: Do not delete messages.

The emails displayed in the folders no longer correspond to the contents in the folders. Example: A folder displays: 7, properties in the same folder displays: 1226 with 447 MB. It looks similar in the other folders.

How can I ensure that all available emails are displayed in Thunderbird again?

A repair with *.msf does not help.

I have used Thunderbird for years and I use it for work. For the last two days, it has started to go slow, and it will freeze and I have to close out of it. This JUST started, and this morning it is almost not functional.

I have looked everywhere I could find to see what I can do and I cannot find anything. I even tried re-installing it.

What can I do?
