I have a hotmail.com address. Until recently, it worked well as webmail, plus also from TB on laptop, via IMAP and SMTP.

A few days ago, the sending function via SMTP stopped working (not IMAP); and webmail is still fine. I've tried a lot to solve it, but to no avail.

My guess is that MS is to blame, but don't know how to reach someone better-than-hotline there.

Details see annex; OS is Win10, TB is 115.9

Would someone be familiar with this kind of problem? According to my traditional european quality idea, best should be to get in touch with an MS technician with access to the syslog, to hear what the system's response to connection attempts is - but this seems to be precluded? I wonder what alternatives there might be?

I just replaced my 5 year old Windows computer with a new Windows computer. When I loaded Thunderbird on my old computer I had issues receiving my e-mail. My e-mail provider tech support was able to get me set up so that my e-mails went to a G-mail account and were forwarded to the computer. I used this setup for approximately 5 years. During that time I created several folders in Thunderbird and they have several important emails stored there. I setup my new Windows PC this past week and downloaded Thunderbird. To my surprise, I was able to set the program up so that it works without having to go through G-Mail. My issue is that I want to copy the e-mail folders and my address book from the old computer and move them into Thunderbird in my new computer. I have looked at your support page and I am concerned that when I move files from the old to the new that I will lose some e-mails and the few folders that I have on the new CPU. I would appreciate your direction and instructions on what I need to do to accomplish this task. The old computer Thunderbird files were up to date. Updates were completed as they came out. The new Thunderbird appears very different than the edition that is on my old machine. Thank you for your assistance.

Network Solutions upgraded their email, and I multiply-checked all my settings in Thunderbird (102.3.2) and can retrieve mail but the outgoing mail hangs and time out with an error. I just discovered it's not my settings, but there's no password listed for the default outgoing SMTP server (my own domain). (I have 2 email accounts, and listed in the "Saved Passwords" are 2 passwords for incoming IMAP plus one the other account outgoing SMTP, 3 total.)

Is there any way to add a password without deleting the default server and then adding it back in, or some other solution?

Thanks

I've just got a new Win 11 PC and have followed the method to transfer all the emails in my Local folders to the new PC. TBH I've tried many of the methods without success.

I've copied the folders from the relevant directory on the old Win 10 PC onto a USB. With TB closed on the new PC I've copied the folders from the USB to a new Folder in Local Folders directory.

When I open TB, of the ~7,500 emails I copy, only 282 appear

I've tried this many times now with no luck What am I doing wrong please?

I have had so much trouble with version 115 and looked online for answers. People recommended downgrading to 102, so I downloaded and re-installed that version, after deleting the file that was recommended from the Thunderbird folder (now I can't find the name of it!).

When I installed 102, it gave me the profile error message. I started to create a new profile and realized that will take me hours probably - I have multiple folders and email addresses in TB. So I decided to reinstall 115, and now it looks like there is no data at all. Help!

I'm using Windows 8.

Thanks

Many times now, I have needed to change folder views to 'Unthreaded', ditch 'Correspondents' in favour of 'From' and 'Recipient' and arrange my emails in descending date order. Every time I create a new folder, I need to go through the same routine. Every time I download a new version of Thunderbird, all my folders are changed back to 'Threaded' and 'Correspondents' and are in Ascending date order, so I have to go through the whole process again. What I need is a simple 'global' setting in a menu, so that I can change the settings for ALL my Thunderbird folders in a simple series of clicks, without needing to go to each folder every time. Better still would be a 'once for all' fix that would prevent Thunderbird changing my settings every time I download a new version. There must be thousands of Thunderbird users who share my frustration with what is lotherwise an excellent email program. Please fix it!

During a recent outage Thunderbird "send" function was disabled. This has happened before during previous Internet service maintenance On this occasion the thunderbird .exe program was employed which resulted in creation of a new email service, even though email address was the same etc.. Is it possible to recover the data which did not reload ??? email address is "[edited email from public] @tpg.com.au"

Hi, I just got a new HP Windows 11 desktop. I used Thunderbird on my old Dell Windows 10 PC fine. I have Spectrum for email and it's time warner cable twc.com they are also Charter. My new PC came with a trial of McAfee. I am having a problem I saw someone else post where I can receive email but not send I get error about timed out and just now got this Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because connecting to Outgoing server (SMTP) .gmail.com failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. Please verify that your Outgoing server (SMTP) settings are correct and try again. I asked Spectrum if it had to do with Mcafee they said no to contact you all. They said my settings are right which I copied off my old PC. I thought I used to always be pop3 but they said it's imap. I receive just fine just can't send. It worked on my old PC fine. Thanks! I have a very small Tablet computer and Thunderbird is really bogged down on it. The tablet has a 32 bit processor, 1G RAM, 64G SD drive. (1) When I run TB I get many "not responding" messages from Windows. (2) Maybe 1/2 the time, if I "delete" a message the screen will freeze on the message. The message is removed from the inbox list. I have to click "X" to get rid of that screen. (3) Get Messages no longer works. When I click it, nothing happens. The status bar at the bottom remains on the last information displayed. I found that if I use View, Folders, All, I can bump TB to get messages. (Normally I use Unified Folders) The status bar will display each of the accounts it is checking and any new messages will appear. These things have been happening through many many versions of TB. Although #3 seemed fixed a few weeks ago but has returned. Same for #2.

I looked at the disk space that TB is using and found that TB is using over 10GB. See attached. I don't know why it is so large. I don't need to store any messages on this computer. I have a desktop that is my "base station" where I want to save all (but deleted) messages.

I don't know if this large amount of TB space is contributing to the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

I really hesitate to ask contributors for help. I know you're all volunteers and you don't deserve these headaches.

I used Thunderbird happily for years. Then the old Thunderbird started have problems. I raised the problems here and got a lot of help until it was just so unusable, I quit.

I tried a number of mail programs that was on my linux computer. It just boggles the mind how many different ways people can think of to handle things that need simplicity.

I want a left side column that has all my email accounts visible all the time. I want an email screen that I can close without automatically going to the next email. Right now, If I call up an email to read, I lose my email account list. There are two ways to get back to the email account list. One is to press the "<" to move the top line of whatever to the right and the arrow to the left until "INBOX" appears. The other way is the hit in "inbox" box, which gets you nothing. I hit the next box below and I get my Address books. Being curious, after I got the Address books, I hit the Inbox button again - and now I get the Inbox (list of all email accounts). Why can't they make the top button work the first time?

In the overall settings, I indicated that I wanted the print to be 26 pixels, picas, whatever, and it does nothing! I'm 84 and I can read the small print. Why doesn't the settings work?

When I switched to 115, I gave a donation because I thought that they fixed things. I'm not donating anything again until they not only fix things but they don't design what they think is an oversmart application. There's this new thing - what - SuperNova. I'm not going anywhere near that.

I'm not trying to upset volunteers, you don't deserve that. What I want is this passed on to the company so they know just how frustrating it is to work with their software. Volunteers, please don't take this personally. You work too hard to help people out.
