When I try to send an email using Thunderbird, a window that says "SMPT Server Password Required" pops up asking me for my password. This never used to happen. When I enter the password of my associated Gmail account, it says "Login to server smtp.googlemail.com failed". If it's not the password of my associated Gmail account, then what password does it want? Is there a way to change the password?

Up until today I have not had any problems accessing my Gmail account with Thunderbird. This morning however access was denied and I was prompted to provide a new password. i tried this but each time a message came back that it was unacceptable. In the end the only solution I found was to go in to my Google account and turn off secure apps or more precisely swich to allow unsecure apps. As soon as I did this I can access my gmail account again OK but it does beg the question why does Google NOW consider the Thunderbird application to be insecure. I am running version 52.5.2 (32 bit) which shows as being up todate. I am confuse why I have the 32 bit version as my windows 7 is 64 bit? I am concerned about continuing with secure apps switched off. Is there an alternative solution which would provide access with secure apps on?

I have an e-mail address that is in a filter and that filter is supposed to run BEFORE the junk filter. However, every single e-mail from that e-mail address is going into the spam folder.
How do I get Thunderbird to: 1. Respect the filter that is supposed to run BEFORE the junk filter? 2. Stop putting the e-mail address in the Span folder. I have marked the e-mails from this e-mail address MULTIPLE time as NOT junk and that does NOT have any affect.

I've been pawned by one of the various server hacks and need to change my mail account password. The answers to various questions about change avoid describing how the mail account password recorded in t'bird for that purpose is actually changed.
So, being blunt, changing an account password is a 2-step process - change it on the mail server, and change it to a matching word in t'bird.
I can do the mail server part. How do I change the password in Thunderbird? A step process please - not a referral to my mail supplier.

I thought SSL/TSL implies a secure connection. What does it mean to use "Normal Password" vs "Encrypted Password" in "Authentication Method" when using "Connection Security: SSL/TSL". One of the servers I use only accepts "Normal Password", however, Thunderbird does not give the "server doesn't use encryption" warning.

I have 3 Gmail accounts using Thunderbird. Two of them open without being asked for a password. Thunderbird has saved them correctly. The third account is not listed and when clicking on any of its folders or sub folders produces a panel asking 'Retry', 'Enter New Password' or 'Cancel'. The new password(s) do not work and are not saved although I click in the 'Remember' box. The message is 'Login to Server imap.gmail.com failed'. So is this a problem with Thunderbird or Gmail? The annoying thing is that I don't wont passwords, for me they are irrelevant. I just want to receive and sent mail without any hassle. As a last resort, is there any way I can enter the details manually.

Receive error message when starting Thunderbird: live.mozillamessaging.com uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because no issuer chain was provided. (Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer) After clicking on any message in the inbox, I can read any mail and send and receive all mail as long as Thunderbird is open. When close and restart, process repeats itself. Can live with this, but would like to fix this. Don't know how to fix even after reading all the help messages.
