I have been avoiding the update from last year like the plague. It had so many bugs and crap I went back to the previous version 102 and stayed happy.

No more! I opened it today and viola' you didn't ask, you didn't warn, you simply updated to your so called "supernova" before I had a chance to even review it before deciding to use it.

What kind of crass corporate control is this? Instead of accepting that we can intelligently testing and deciding what we want, you give up on user discretion and, you force it down our throats.

Tell me how to stuff it and get back to something I know that works, THEN AND ONLY THEN, tell me how to upgrade if I decide to do so.

If you can't tell, this is NOT tongue in cheek, I'm PISSED!

Hi, I have Thunderbird running on old pc (Windows 10) with a few years of emails I need to be able to access.

I have a new Windows 11 and want to download these emails from the server onto my pc.

I follow article https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1282954, but my new PC doesn't have the option "Account Settings > Synchronization & Storage" (it does on the old) instead it has 'Disk Space' in the same place in the option list.

Waht am I missing?

If not, how do I transfer the mail file from the old pc to the new pc (maintaing the folder structure etc...

I'd hoped this question was answered at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/moving-thunderbird-data-to-a-new-computer, but that article assumes a Mac-to-Mac migration, and it doesn't work for a Windows-to-Mac migration. The discussion at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1324908 addresses the issue, but what the poster did to get things working is rather vague ("I took more from one [response] and a little from the other two...]. Can someone please summarize or point me to a summary of what needs to be done to move the files in a TB installation on Windows 10 to MacOS 14 Sonoma so that the installation on the Mac will work like the one on Windows did?

I have a lot of old mail, so my TB directory is over 40 GB. Copying it from my Windows machine to my Mac (either over a network or via a USB drive) takes quite a while, so I'm trying to avoid any more trial and error than I've already gone through.

Thanks.

PS - I apologize for the use of raw URLs above, but I was unable to figure out Mozilla's markup language, and there's no preview button for posts, so I decided to go with something I figured was unlikely to get mangled in the publication process.

I'm trying to move Thunderbird to a new PC. Both PC's are running Windows 11. I've followed the instructions for locating my profile. According to "Troubleshooting Information" my profile is supposed to be located at "C:\Users\photo\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\k6i7koof.default-release\Mail\Local Folders". When I click on the "Open Folder" button, I receive an error message that the folder does not exist. When I try navigating to the folder manually, I can not find a "Thunderbird" folder under "AppData\Roaming". I've selected "Show Hidden Files/Folders" under Windows Explorer. I know my profile exists because I can access a set of Local Folders when I'm in Thunderbird. I'd really like to move those folders over to my new PC. Any help to find the profile folder will be much appreciated.

Hi, I am trying to import some old T-Bird email folders backed up in 2014 on an external hard drive. Since then I had a computer failure and rebuilt my T-Bird account but now I am looking for pre-crash emails. From the backup profile I can dig down to the Local Folders in the Mail and they are all there but when I try to import as a new local folder (even if I rename it as that's not important) a new empty T-Bird folder shows up in the side bar. Someone also suggested that I could just click on "open" under T-Bird as the default directly from the ext hard drive but that creates an empty T-Bird import folder. I also tried compressing as a zip file and importing but that doesn't seem to work either. Any insight/advice would be appreciated!

Totally confused here. Thunderbird wants me to use my current email (a gmail account) which I do not want. I thought by getting Thunderbird I could just create a brand new email (No, I do not want to buy a domain name!) and do something like blah-blah.blah@thunderbird.com. Looks like I was completely mislead by an article on doing what I really need.

If I have to use my current gmail address, then what is the point of getting Thundebird?

If I cannot do what I need on Thunderbird, I want my donation back. Anyone know how I can do that? I can't find an answer to that anywhere.

Sorry if I sound snarky here. It's because of my highly increased level of frustration. Thank you for your time, and any assistance you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, In a new Windows 11 PC Thunderbird 115.81.1 (64-bit) was installed. Then I did /Server Settings/Message storage/Local Directory/F:Mail

The F:\Mail is an external USB-drive. The left pane then showed two main folders:

x@y.no Local Folders

In both of these there is an Inbox sub-folder. The one under "Local Folders" shall be set as the "Global Inbox". In many pages on the web, e.g. a MozillaZine page, it is explained how to do this. The key point here is to navigate to the "Server Settings" and clock on the "Advanced button".

My problem is that there is none; see the uploaded image.

Could anyone, please, tell me where I did my error?

Best regards; ChG

I'm moving from Outlook 2015 (ie the bought-outright version pre Office365) on W10 to Thunderbird on a new W11 PC.

I installed TB 31.8.0 on W10 system and imported contacts and emails. That all works except I get "Secure Connection Failed" for live.mozillamessaging.com. I've deleted cert*.db and key*.db files and rebooted but it hasn't gone away.

[Probably not relevant: but I'm also not receiving the confirm-your-email message from Mozilla, and could only join this forum via the time-out reminder which did get through. But my test messages arrive OK.]

(Spoiler alert: this is nothing to the problems I'm getting on the W11 install!)

I have just completed transferring Thunderbird from Windows 10 (32 bit) to Windows 11 (64 bit). Running 115 on both machines. The transfer went well but ..... In my profile in the sub folder Mail, I ended up with 3 folders - Local Folders, XXXX.com (XXXX is the incoming sever name) and XXXX-1.com. This happened purely by chance with the XXXX-1 file containing all the data and folders off the old PC and the XXXX containing the emails from my internet provider from the time my old PC had died until the transfer.

I renamed the XXXX-1 file and opened it in Thunderbird - all the emails were there.

Seperately I did the same with the XXXX file - no emails appeared in Thunderbird.

If I click on the XXXX file then click on Inbox and open it with Notepad, I can all the new emails. The XXXX file inbox does not contain any of the old emails.

I have tried everything to open the XXXX file in Thunderbird (incluing renaming and cut/paste) all to no avail. And, of course, the emails were deleted off from my internet provider by Thunderbird when they were downloaded!

Can anyone suggest a way I can retrieve the emails off the XXXX file?

I have a dual-boot (Windows 7 & 10 - presently defaults to 7) system. I've used and loved Thunderbird as my default mail client on the 7 side. But now I'm using the 10 side more and want Thunderbird on 10 also. So I installed it on 10, but when I get a new email it only goes to the 7 side.

What am I missing or doing wrong?

Thanks!

I recently had an SDD M.2 die on me (Boot drive). So have installed a replacement drive. The W10 install went well and installed a couple of apps such as SoftMaker Office. Then TB. Installed fine, but does not seem to work. I do have Web access to the Internet and so far all I can find that is not working is my TB. I have cut and pasted ALL login details to the account. Identical details to this PC (W11) which is working. Help, please?

It's probably going to be something stupid I've mixed. Regards Kevin

My email provider is Comcast. I have several server folders there.

When I installed TB, one is missing though. I've logged into Comcast directly to confirm it's there.

There's no .msf for the folder in ImapMail/imap.comcast.net/ under my Profile--the others are there.

How do I get TB to fetch this folder / re-fetch all folders? Thanks!

I see the lots of info about moving a Profile to another computer or backing it up. That seems fine. However, they all including backing up the email data along with the Profile setup, which I don't want to do (due to email data being so large in many cases).

I see all my email data is in a folder called "ImapMail" within the Profile folder. Is it possible to backup the Profile and just exclude that folder? I mean, if the Profile is transferred to another system, won't the email just be downloaded again? Or will it not work that way?

Thanks.

How do I move all my message filters and address books from my Windows desktop PC to my Windows laptop?

I have three email accounts and ten address books. (The message filters use the address books to sort messages into folders.)

There are a bunch of abook* files in the root directory of the profile. Is it sufficient to move these to the laptop, or are they indexed somewhere?

There are msgFilterRules.dat files in many subfolders of Mail and ImapMail. Is it sufficient to move all of these into the corresponding folders on the laptop?

Is there an easier way to do either of these?
