Firefox now forces PDFs, even downloaded ones, to be opened in-browser. Frustrating is this setting has been introduced and right away replaced previous behaviour without any preceding notice, perfectly fine settings, now requiring to go to file explorer to open a PDF as if it was a file. How to disable this bloat?

Hi all, when loading a PDF the first few pages load, and then the rest only load (slowly) once you scroll/click to view them. This wasn't always the case, and started about 4 weeks ago. My internet connection is 50Mbps, and is running at full speed, and my PC has 32GB of RAM. It's not my internet or PC, as far as I can tell.

Is there a fix? Is this a known new bug? Thanks.

Hi :) I have a problem with FireFox and I hope someone will be able to help me sort it out :) After the last update there is a new "feature" that is driving me insane and it's slowing me down to the point I'm ready to ditch FF. I'm talking about the "Open with Firefox" option, under "What should Firefox do with this file?". Is there any way for me to remove this "feature" from the dialog and to revert to the old "Open with..." and "Save File" list? Why is this thing there in the first place, I wonder?!

Thank you for you time and help!

I am running FF 77.0.1. This has been an issue for awhile however. In Options, under Applications/PDF, there is no Preview in Firefox option. I've tried quitting FF, renaming/moving handlers.json; but on re-opening the relevant section remains the same(action=0). I discovered about:config pdfjs.disable=false, previously it was set to true. Then in Options/Applications/PDF, "Firefox" is an option to open, and the action=3 in handlers.json, however the behavior of downloaded pdfs is the same (downloaded). (This is trying example pdfs from different sites). I've tried changing about:config security.cps.enable=false, no change. I've also seen a plugin to "fix content types" that shows up on this site, but it didn't change anything. From what I gather, action=3 should be Preview in Firefox, not Firefox, and all pdfs are being downloaded. Is there a way to fix this? Not seeing pdfs in browser is significantly annoying.

I am currently using Firefox version 77.0 in windows 10. I noticed few things that when I try to open some of the PDFs it shows "This PDF document might not be displayed correctly" and just blank white page shows up (image included).

I use few extensions which I disabled them completely when I read PDF but still I am unable to access PDF. While same PDFs are easily readable by other browsers like Chrome or Edge.

Please let me know is it a bug or there is some settings to tweak. Thanks in advance.

I have a web page with a link to a PDF on it. When I click on this link, the PDF opens in a new tab using the Adobe viewer, and displays fine. However, links within the PDF itself are ignored. When I view the same web page in Chrome or IE, the PDF also opens in a viewer, but under these browsers, the links within the PDF itself work as well. Is there any setting or adjustment I can make to Firefox or its PDF viewer to make the links within the PDF work? Thanks for any help. WJH

Hello Community,

I always used Firefox as PDF-Viewer and it worked fine. But since the last update it is not possible to view PDF-files anymore: whenever I click on a PDF or a link to a PDF - Firefox creates new tabs endlessly. When I quit Firefox and restart it I have lots of new and empty tabs in the browser, but no PDF. It's very annoying because I have to close them all manually and can't view PDFs anymore.

I have not installed any new software, no registry hacks, have changed nothing in the browsers config, so I suppose it has something to do with the update to 76.0.1

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Hello,

I really enjoy Firefox, but lately I've been having to go back to Chrome to get things done. The latest is that when I view a PDF in the browser the option to download the file does nothing. I then tried the same website on Google Chrome, the button worked and I was able to download the file.

I tried setting Firefox to open the PDF in Acrobat but there were no changes. I also tried using Firefox in Private mode in case an extension was causing a problem.

The website is the county records search site for Miami, Florida. Search for any name, view a record, the click on Document image. A PDF opens in the browser with a print option, and a download option. The download option does nothing when clicked on. Do the same on Google Chrome, then it does work.

Thanks for any help!

I've uploaded a few PDFs to my company's website, but when I open the PDFs in Firefox they display and print incorrectly (with elements of my company logo in weird places). If I open the PDFs in Chrome, they display and print perfectly. My designer can't find any hidden layers in the PDF, so that's not the problem.

Until a few days ago, I was able to open a shipping label on Ebay within Firefox, by pressing the OPEN button and a new tab would open with the label. I was then able to press a PRINT button and the label printed.

Now I purchase the label, the page changes as before and offers me a PRINT LABEL or SAVE LABEL, but when I press the PRINT LABEL button it goes into the save as mode. I tried the SAVE LABEL button and it does the same thing.

There were always the two options. PRINT or SAVE. Now both button just save the label.

Do I need to change some kind of setting? I've asked Ebay if they made any changes and I'm waiting to hear back from them.

Thank you.

Got a new pc (Lenovo AIO 540) 2 days ago. Wanted to open a pdf webfile with my standard browser firefox. I only got an empty page. It worked with my former pc (HP). Changed the opening for a pdf file to Acrobat in the settings, but the result was the same. Tried the same with Microsoft Edge and it worked surprisingly. I don´t wanna change my standard browser from firefox in any othe one. Has anybody an idea what to change in the settings of firefox or adobe to get a correct result?

Thx in advance. Michael

I have a website I use for sharing documentation. Some of these are in the form of manuals and I have no problem with these, they open in the browser as required. Others are portfolios which contain many different pdf forms. Up until the last update these opened the portfolio and clicking on a particular form link opened the form in a new browser tab. Since the update the portfolio opens but the forms do not.

When I look at the developer console I see the following error message: Error: Access to 'blob:resource://pdf.js/6c1fbe42-b5ba-48af-89a3-efb4fc5ee161?CRW%2002%20-%20Course%20Summary%20and%20Assessment%20Form.pdf' from script denied 3 viewer.js:4510:14

I used to have two profiles. I deleted one. But I still got profile manager first when starting FF. So I clicked the box to load the default without asking. I'm almost sure that it was immediately after that, when clicking on links elsewhere (e.g. shortcuts I've created, links in pdfs) I get the "FF is already running message." So I manually opened profile manager and unclicked the "use selected profile without asking" button (and I've gone back and confirmed its unchecked) and I'm still getting the message.

A PDF file is always instantly downloaded to my downloads directory, without asking anything. I've set it to this behaviour at some point, long long ago. Now I want Firefox to use its built-in viewer, but I can't get it to work.

See the attached image for how it's set in the options panel.

I'm a bit confused as to why there's both "Portable document Format (PDF)" and "PDF file". The latter one does NOT have an option "Preview in Firefox". So I've set that one to "Always Ask", but even that won't work. It seems whatever I set these two to, makes absolutely no difference to how Firefox behaves when I click a link to a PDF.
