When I try to send an attachment on my hotmail msn account, the line of options which contains the "Attachment" option briefly appears, then disappears so I cannot do an attachment. It's normally always there when I do a "new" email. I wrote to MSN hotmail windows, and they said to optimize my browser, but I don;t know how to do this. It does work on my other computer and also works on Safari on my Mac. Just doesn't happen on my usual Mac computer with Firefox. So, what to do?? Thanks. DK

I had to buy new computer cause the old one will not stay powered on, and I want/need to get all my Firefox Info - Bookmarks etc... to my new computer. My other computer was 5 years old and I have used Firefox from the beginning so there is a lot of info I desperately need.

Recurring freeze due to periodic CPU usage spikes.

I'm running Firefox v9.0.1 under Win7 Home Premium 64 bit, with a dual core Intel T4400 (Core 2) CPU running at 2.2GHz, with 3GB of RAM.

This is a new (mis)behavior for FireFox. Problem appears as periodic, temporary freezing of the FireFox UI. During these times (lasting up to 30 seconds), FireFox will not display new content, will not respond to mouseclicks, will not render typed text. These freezes can affect performance systemwide, degrading the performance of other applications, even with Firefox minimized. Originally, I thought it was due to the MS Outlook webmail application...but it isn't. The same problem occurs in Firefox sessions that have never loaded an Outlook webmail page.

I composited some screenshots of CPU usage and posted the result here. I'd post a PDF if I knew a site that would permit (more or less) anonymous posters to upload one.

That page is composed from images taken from Mark Russinovich's Process Explorer utility to show system resource usage. There is no I/O usage that corresponds to the CPU use. Firefox is definitely the offending application. Every 60 seconds, Firefox usage spikes in one CPU core, to over 90%. Sometimes Firefox usage manages to spill into the second core as well (I don't know how it manages to do that).

ProcesExplorer's per-thread info (bottom of the image) demonstrates that this excessive CPU usage isn't happening in a plugin. It's coming form Firefox, proper.

As you can see in the ProcessExplorer treeview, I'm running the PortableApps installation of FireFox. But I don't think that affects the excessive CPU usage. After all, it never used to do this. And now, after the upgrade to v9.0.1, it does. Also, a standard install of Firefox on this same computer (v8.0.1) does NOT exhibit the excessive-CPU use behavior.

I'd appreciate any help you can offer to get Firefox's CPU usage to calm back down again. I several users who have gone over to Chrome because of this bug.

I also disabled 2 javascript addons from the troubleshooting site. Again, that did not help, I still get the javascript messages - up to 10 at a time. Everytime I press OK, the next one pops up. Even after the javascript windows appear and I have delt with them, much - but no all - of the time, my tabs do n ot work and I have to shut Firefox down and start all over again. This is very annoying. Hope someone can help my. I dred going back to Internet Explorer.

Firefox 7>8>9.0.1, all revs., in Mac Mini OS X Lion (10.7.2) - .. Issue 1. - the scrollbars V & H appear to be about 1 or maybe 2 pixels wide, and on my 1600x1000 widescreen monitor, it is excruciatingly difficult to catch the scrollbar's tiny slider. The first try, even when executed carefully, nearly always drags the whole window, and does not scroll the window's contents - and it does not widen the window, either. It drags the whole window. It often takes two to five tries with very careful, very slow, approaches to the scrollbar, to catch the scrollbar instead of the border. Just the thought of ever trying this on a laptop's touchpad is a painful thing. I have reviewed about:config all the way down and all the way up, and I haven't seen any setting in there, for this. Is there any way I, the un-anointed user, can make the scrollbars wide enough to fix this aggravating feature? .. Issue 1.1 - Clicking in the scrollbar blank space, when that succeeds, jumps the scrolled window too far - making for discontinuous viewing. When the page is a deep length (as is, say, the about:config document), the slider is so tiny that jumping one screenview exaxctly, (to the contiguous screenview) is not practicable - cannot do it. The Windows implementation, in which one click gives exactly one screenview jump, is so much more convenient to use. Is it patented by Microsoft, is that why Apple didn't use this method? Can Mozilla's GUI experts fix this, for Firefox & Thunderbird in Mac OS X?

Minor question - Why does catching the side border drag the whole window, anyway? I thought that the side border would only adjust the width of the window. Is that merely a Mac OS quirk, and can that be overridden and fixed by the Mozilla team?

Has anyone had these problems with FF9.01 ? (1) Will not display home page on startup -- even when set. (2) Will not display both "Firefox" menu and menu bar. (3) CTL-Shift-A will not call up the Ad-Ons Manager. In fact nothing will except typing in the URL. (4) PDF files are automatically downloaded with no choice to view and none of the Ad-ons for PDF solve this problem.

FF has another problem more anoying that the above. If I click on a URL, Firefox launches but with an empty URL in the navigation box. I think I will need to start from scratch and re-install Firefox: What do you think?

To clarify the issue, here's what happens every time I add a new tab: The tab appears, but with content including a search box from a third party, igeared.com, a site which my firewall blocks as unsafe. This began suddenly and not at my request. At the same time, Firefox also began reloading the previous session every time and now never displays the exit dialogue box asking whether it should save tabs. Also, I'm running Firefox 9.0.1. I'm avoiding upgrading to 11 because, in my experience, this ALWAYS provokes a shouting match between Firefox and the Roboform add-in that takes hours of work to resolve. I depend on Roboform for my livelihood, and despair of playing the "doesn't work now" game with the two vendors. In short, it looks to me like igear.com has hijacked my browser. Any solutions? Also, Firefox now always restores previous session, including the bad tab stuff
