Every Firefox session, I use plenty of tabs, stacked atop each other in a vertical bar along the left side of the screen, using an extension named "Tree Style Tab" and its affiliated extension, "Open Link in New Tab" These never caused a problem for me during the first two years of use, but in the last three years or so, Firefox began to eat huge chunks of my memory.

Since I use Tree Style Tab routinely to keep perhaps 30 or so tabs open as I do research, my first thought was something had changed with one or both of the two extensions, and they had developed a problem with using memory efficiently. To test my hypothesis, I simply disabled both by starting Firefox in SafeMode.

Of course, that also disabled every other extension and plug-in, as well, but proved that my problem does not come from any extension or plug-in. Because while in SafeMode, Firefox continued to eat memory at a phenomenal rate until operations became extremely slow and the system finally froze in-place. That is, I began with some 3.1 Gb of physical memory (my 32-bit XP Pro SP3 system retains 1Gb from a total of 4GB), but soon found Firefox was using a whopping 1.7 Gb for only 20 tabs which should have taken no more than perhaps 300Mb, at most.

Yes, I have varied the mix of tabs, so if there were any memory-intensive connection / website, that connection would have stood out plainly. But the same effect is observed no matter how the tab connections are varied.

All my plug-ins and extensions are up-to-date, and Firefox is at version 38. All caches have been cleared.

When I'm in private browsing mode in Firefox 38.0.1 for Windows 8.1, I cannot do the following things.

1. When I click on a link to open a new window, that new window is like a pop-up window (no menus, no scroll-bars). But I have pop-up windows blocked, so it acts like but is not technically a pop-up window since it's not being blocked.

2. When I choose a bookmark and then right-click on it to choose another bookmark either in a new window or new tab (or any of the other options that appear), the text is grayed out so that I cannot choose it.

Are these "issues" normal for Firefox 38.0.1?

Since update 38.0, Firefox periodically crashes or completely hangs my xp sp3 system to where I have to do a cold boot. I have tried everything on your troubleshooting pages: Started Firefox in Safe mode with add-ons disabled - made no difference. Removed all add-ons and added 1 at a time - made no difference. Refreshed Firefox - made no difference. Added a new profile and deleted old one - made no difference. Completely uninstalled Firefox, all folders and registry items and reinstalled 38.0.1 - made no difference. completely uninstalled 38.0.1 and installed 37.0.1 made no difference. I have spent a lot of hours on troubleshooting this problem and now its your turn. I am currently back to 38.0.1 and would like to know how this problem can be corrected. I love Firefox and have no desire to give it up for another browser, but this problem is really making me angry. Every time it crashes, a report is sent to Mozilla and there must be hundreds of these reports by now.

Please help me to solve this problem.

Thanks

I have four Wordpress blogs that I visit. Wordpress has a black bar at the top of the screen that you can click on and it'll bring you back to the top of the page. I am running FF 38.0.5, and on one of these blogs this feature stopped working. I ran in safe mode and the feature worked correctly. When I unistalled each add on one by one to figure out which one it might be, the problem still persists. How can this be??

I opened Firefox and saw View Pocket List. The link takes me to information about the add-on, which I don't want and haven't signed up for. I can't right-click on the bookmark.

I tried the following, posted by edmeister (sp?) __________ That menu item is part of the new Pocket feature in Firefox 38.0.5.

See if disabling the new Pocket feature makes that "view pocket list" bookmarks menu item go away.

Type about:config in the Location Bar and hit Enter. Accept the warning message. Put this pref in the Search field to filter those advanced preferences

browser.pocket.enabled - the default value is true. To turn this feature off - either right-click that pref and select Toggle or double-click that pref to change the value to False. __________

Even after I changed the value to False and re-started Firefox, the View Pocket List is still in my bookmarks menu. I want to remove it. How can I do this?

FF was acting normally all day, including YouTube. I viewed some instructional videos, and they played fine. Then in the evening, I went to YouTube, and FF started crashing constantly. Sometimes a video would play for a few seconds before crashing, other times FF would crash as soon as I clicked on something. I changed absolutely nothing, no settings, nothing since when it was working fine earlier in the day. Sometimes it crashes even when I'm not playing any video. I assume that some video on the site I'm on probably started automatically (ads).

I've been looking through tons of questions, threads, etc. The only thing I can find is that it's probably related to Flash. I've uninstalled it (v17), reinstalled v18, hardware acceleration is off, Windows updated, etc. I can't find anything else to try.

Below are the crash reports. There's only four because usually when FF crashes I usually don't take the time to submit the report, so these are all from today:

bp-21329c08-0ba9-4ded-b9bf-bb19e2150612 bp-1dd0fd8d-d04b-48d8-8d17-3c1a32150612 bp-141d79d4-8e59-4d81-96e0-3dd252150612 bp-c7dc4c7f-c7eb-46a9-87a7-e8b222150612

One of the crash reports noted this: Related Bugs

723133 VERIFIED FIXED Crash Report [@ PluginWndProcInternal ] stack overflow from infinite recursion

But I can't figure out what to do to fix it. Any ideas?

I've been using Firefox for years but I can't find a way around this issue. The problem started after I upgraded to v38.0.5 but I've tried going back to v35.0 and it's not fixed the problem. I tried safe mode and eventually uninstalled, deleted the Mozilla registry entries and performed a clean install. I'm still unable to view the options.

As soon as I click the Tools / Options menu item I get an AppHangB1. The issue originally manifested itself when trying to add attachments in Gmail. Much of the browser works, I'm posting this issue from Firefox but certain actions cause the browser to hang. The easiest to reproduce is Tools / Options, the showshopper is not being able to upload / download files.

Hopefully someone will know how I can get firefox to work again. Currently I'm running without any extensions, just a clean install.

All of a sudden, after a firefox update, I am getting "This Connection is Untrusted" for Facebook, it doesn't matter if I use http: or https:, WHY???????? Here are all the details from the error message:

This Connection is Untrusted

You have asked Firefox to connect securely to facebook.com, but we can't confirm that your connection is secure.

Normally, when you try to connect securely, sites will present trusted identification to prove that you are going to the right place. However, this site's identity can't be verified. What Should I Do?

If you usually connect to this site without problems, this error could mean that someone is trying to impersonate the site, and you shouldn't continue.

This site uses HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) to specify that Firefox only connect to it securely. As a result, it is not possible to add an exception for this certificate.

facebook.com uses an invalid security certificate.

The certificate is not trusted because the issuer certificate is unknown.

(Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer)

(Also included a screen shot.)

This is a continuation of the problem report (with the exact same question) that had no solutions and was recently closed. I have no idea why an active problem report was closed.

I had the same problem last night. After a BSOD Firefox started (I start it automatically via the startup menu). Only 9 of my 10 Firefox windows were started; the main window I use was not started. Note that I ALWAYS run Firefox with add-ons disabled. I took a dump of the firefox.exe application via the task manager. Then I clicked on "Help - Restart with Add-ons Disabled...", and Firefox re-started with all my 10 windows. How do we diagnose what is happening? Is there anything in the dump that might help in resolving this? If not, is there any other diagnostic tool that we can use to figure out what is happening? This does not happen with every start/restart of Firefox, but it happens often enough to want me (a computer professional) to find a solution. Thanks.

When browsing certain pages (specifically Reddit.com), going back to the previous page will refresh the whole page, which expands the comments I've collapsed and I can no longer find the comment I was looking at a moment ago.

Currently I do not have any add-ons activated, but if I start Firefox in safe-mode the problem is no longer there.

I have tried to refresh Firefox, but this did not solve my problem.

I have also cleared my cache and this did not solve my problem either.

This is a problem that seems to come and go from time to time, without any reason that I understand.

Hi users !

I'm experiencing long seconds (up to few minutes) stuck aka freeze aka hang with newest Firefox, due to loading flash plugin used to play videos, advertisements on web pages (unfortunatelly most of web). Firefox is not useable, because it's happening so often. I'm not sure when it started (version of FF, or version of Flash plugin).

In this freeze case, when it is urgent, I turn on my Internet explorer 11.0.9600.17501 and it never fails, no matter I'm browsing.

To solve my Firefox issue, I have tried and didn't work: - turning off hardware accelerating - running in safe mode - make a new profile

I'm worried to use MozBackup to save all important personal stuff from my FF and total reinstal whole app. Because MozBackup is pretty old and last time I used it, I didn't know what all are files for, to move to next instance. Lot of rubbish was moved with it and if I cut more and more stuff, I don't know what is important for my personal settings, saves... what is essential for running it well and what is better to delete for smooth run of new instance.

If it's possible, I would like to try all solutions without reinstall whole FF please.

My system: FF 38.0.1 Flash plugin 17.0.0.169 Windows 7 32 bit older laptop, but hardware performance is not a problem

Thank you

When we click to "Save Image As..." option, the default "File As Type" setting used to be blank and would permit us to save graphics as JPGs. Now, for some reason, the default "File As Type" setting is set to JPEG. This is very inconvenient because we have to select the "All Files" option so that we can see the list of files we have already saved in order to keep our picture-numbering sequence in order for our operations. The other problem is that we can't use JPEGs because all of our web pages and print pages we publish are linked to files that are JPG, so if we convert to JPEG, we would have to entirely re-do all of our thousands of page templates.

We are using Firefox version 35.0.5. We have tried updating Firefox via their website. Didn't work. Then we tried uninstalling and then installing a fresh version, still same problem. Also, the problem is only happening on 2 systems that we have and not on the other 2.

Please help!
