(For Forum Moderators: Please read /forums/forum-moderators/710264?last=59300)

Moderators, please read first before closing/removing this topic right away?
To those wanting to react here on this topic: please, also read ;)
Since my original posting https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/997009 was closed because one of the moderators felt it was going off-topic (although it was red a lot and had 131 "have-this-problem" in just a few days), here a kind of re-opening but on-topic.
Why? Because I feel we have the right to express our feelings on this major change. And publicly there is actually only this forum where that can be done on the Mozilla.org domain.
Sure, the change is there and we have to live with it (if we choose to). But that doesn't mean we can not have our voice here because after many, many years of supporting FF with our use, we suddenly are facing a layout we were always running away from.
So yes, that can cause ranting and so on (within the forum rules of course) because people feel strongly about there beloved browser.
(edit rules link note the whole topic is ordinarily outside the scope of the forum ... Posts in the Mozilla support forum must be either questions about the use of Firefox, ... Users who post about things other than Mozilla support will be directed to an alternative discussion place .... . ~J99)

Plus this way you can centralize all the negatives here instead of a lot of separate postings about the same subject ;)
To the people reacting here in this topic: there is only 1 real way to let Mozilla itself know how you feel on the new lay out and that is not through this forum. The way is to go to https://input.mozilla.org/feedback/ and let it know there.
edit You need to use a supported Firefox to post Feedback so that will soon not be possible from Fx28 2nd edit. I was wrong feedback works with any version of Fiefpx now~J99

And I think when that is done in normal words (so no f*ck you rants and so on) and suggestions, then maybe, just maybe, it has some effect.
Also, there is an Mozilla support page with info on how to get the "old look" back, see How to make the new Firefox look like the old FirefoxBut it will only partly restore the old look, certain FF29 things can not be changed.

And yes, I myself am back to Firefox 28 which is not supported or suggested by Mozilla because it has things (bugs and security) that are not fixed in it. (Edit Please use Official downloads if you must downgrade links in Install an older version of Firefox and the growing list of exploits you will open yourself up to is listed here: https://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/firefox.html ~J99)

I am not suggesting or advertising to others to do the same. It is a risk I am willing to take and only say it is an option.
edit My reason to go back to FF 28 is because that version still has the intuitive feel and look Firefox one was praised for. With a logical lay out and a good way to simply customize it (also in about:config).
For those who say/think "Come one man, stop whining! Grow up and just accept that Firefox has to go with its time!", to them I say: nope ;)

This is a continuation of a thread found here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/997448 by Compumind.

I reported I was having the same experience, especially when opening links from emails in Thunderbird. I also reported I was forced to revert to FF 28.

Moses replied in above thread and suggested: (1) Download a fresh installer from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ to a convenient location. (Scroll down to your preferred language.)

(2) Exit out of Firefox.

(3) Rename the folder

C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files (x86)\OldFirefox

(4) Run the installer you downloaded in #1. It should automatically connect to your existing settings.

I followed these instruction carefully but no joy. Upon installing FF 29, not only would it refuse to exit (using "exit") and remain running in the Task Manager until I killed it after opening links from Thunderbird, but I found it refused to exit after simple browsing and following links.

Moses had asked I not reply in original thread so I am re-posting here.

I believe this is a serious bug. With Firefox 28...no problems except a minor one I reported here: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1002089

Again I am forced back to FF 28, though I miss the beautiful interface and security fixes, I need to have a browser that works properly. My wife has never even seen the Task Manager before so this is problem.

Besides the "educated guesses" made with this post, the only other thing outside of usual that I do, is to have a security policy regarding cookies (don't accept by default...I make exceptions for cookies I want to retain and have a several that are only "allow for session.") I also have FF set to delete browsing history on exit, but that takes a split second.

I look forward to when this issue can be addressed successfully and I am able to use FF 29 (and have it exit properly...I can't expect my wife to follow all these instructions and close it often manually in the task manager...nor do I want to do this.)

Good luck on all the Mozilla projects. Having installed FF 29 twice and then reverted back to 28 twice, I am going to wait and see how this plays out. Please don't send me the standard, "start in safe mode", "restart with add-ons disabled", "reset Firefox" (last time that destroyed my browser completely) stuff. I do not believe this is what's happening.

Moses added that there is a problem with email notifications going through, so take your time, friends.

(Removed beta link to 28. -m)

All the current changes for firefox seem oriented towards the tab computer market but unfortunately these tab computers are way to slow and underperform compared dramaticly compared to my desktop computer. Having tabs below is what makes my system functionality and workflow perform at its best. I often have up to 100 tabs open at a time when doing research but with every change by firefox this ability is more and more taken away. from right click send emails and now tabs cant be placed below its time for firefox to decide if its time for two different versions of there product to be made. One for the desktop and a seperate version for tablet computers. Having tabs above the address bar is just plain stupid when you have 100 tabs open ie it just doesnt work. My pc has 64 gigs of ram and a 6 cor processor and with every itereation of firefox for the past 4 years my ability to use the ability of my PC has been more and more removed. I seem to have no choice but to revert to an earlier version of firfox in order to at least keep some of the former functionality. I dont use touch functionality and yet the latest version seems complllletelly oriented towards touch computers and thats great but its been done at the expence of people like me who will never use this type of feature. Time to creat two seperate versions of Firfox one for people like me who have realy powerfull computers and many many many tabs open at a time and one for the tablet pc touch people who only have 1 or 2 tabs open at a time.

I downgraded back to 28 after 29 came out. Now I get pompts/popups asking if Firefox can make changes. I want to make this go away. There will never be an upgrade to 29 and I am willing to take the risk of staying with 28. If this can't made to permanetly disappear I will have to find another browser. I have checked the update section of the security tab under options and checked NEVER and it still does it every time I launch firefox.

I have the famous Youtube crashing issue, and have tried everything on the internet to fix it plus other tweaks. In the end nothing works, and I'm all out of ideas. All I want to know is who do I point the finger at: Firefox, Adobe, or Youtube? I've been using Firefox since release, but this problem is only a Firefox problem, and I'm sick of dealing with it. At the same time I don't want to give up Firefox because Adobe can't program or Youtube has bugs. I've never had any issues with Firefox like this... Sure along the way there has been bugs, but this is getting ridiculous...

Anyway, it would be great to know who is doing it wrong, so I can go s**t in their Cheerios, and let them know how I feel about their product.

Thank You! :D

P.S. Surprising IEx64 10 doesn't have this problem for me, but who wants to use that trash...? *cough

I'm using thousands of tabs, of course with the option "don't load tabs until selected" activated so FF is supposed not to have to load really more content in memory compared if I was just opening one tab.

But my Firefox is using more than 2GB of memory just to boot up i.e. loading the list of the tabs with their little icon, a tab and the extensions. I tried to boot FF in "without modules" mode it doesn't even manage to boot. That was quite annoying but OK but now my ff is randomly CRASHING (I am probably around 3000 now) ! The memory problem is here for a lot of time but the crash is new but I believe it's more the tab number than the new version responsible for it.

I cleared cache and cookies, it doesn't solve anything.

How I'm suppose to solve this problem ? Just deleting my beloved tabs ?

I believe there's a deeper problem in the way Firefox manage "this unload until selected" option because it isn't acting as if theye were not here.

My system is otherwise quite stable except my system clock can go back in time a little bit, is it a possible reason for the crashes ? Is there an 'hardcoded' limit number of tabs opened ? Shall I post on Bugzilla where no one seems to listen to anything ? Or you just consider this a 'non normal usage' and do not even care ?

Thanks to anyone helping me and sorry for any mistake in english.

PS: FF lacks a simple way of knowing how many tabs you've got.

I was using an older version of FF because the newer versions had messed up private browsing and I had the option of deciding if I wanted tabbed browsing. I switched to a newer version because a lot of sites didn't work with the older version.

I went into tools - tabs and checked what I used to use not to get tabbed browsing. Doesn't work.

Please tell me how to get rid of tabbed browsing and how to switch back and forth to private and regular browsing without opening a new tab/window.

If I can't get rid of tabbed browsing I guess I'll muddle along with an older version.

So, updated to 29 on both my Win7 & XP machines before I realized the problem: . Mozilla is heck bent on hiding stuff from me. . Read another (now closed) discussion of the loss of the status bar. I think this is the first time they pronounced the status bar dead. Tried the view-toolbars-addon and it's not there anymore. . So, went back to 28 and will stay there until the status bar is returned or it becomes so obsolete that I'll have to return to IE. . On my Win7Ult machine, it was easy - just the last restore point before I installed 29 and there it was. Doesn't wotk on XP, but luckily there's an FTP site that has copies of every version you can think of. I chose the last eng-us.28 and installed it over 29. I was surprised that the installation didn't notice and balk at it. also surprised it didn't crash and burn, but I'm writing this on that now and all seems OK. . So, you are asking "where's the question?" . It's this: the status bar is the darling of an overwhelming majority of Windows programs. I think this is like the third time they stole my status bar. Stealing the status bar is proof positive that Mozilla hates its users - by moving everything that used to be on the status bar to varied and sundry places, they have effectively chosen to hide things from their users and I find this inexcusably beyond the pale. For instance, they say it moved "add ons" to it's own 'addon' toolbar, which is NOT on by default. You see, they hid it. MY QUESTION IS - HOW TO GET MOZILLA TO STOP DOING THIS REPREHENSIBLE THING and return my browser to the way I like it. As I said in the subject "status bar is a requirement for my continued support". don't write back that I have to accept it or lump it. I'm on 'strike28' until the status bar is returned. If it is not, then I'll be going WHERE EVERY OTHER BROWSER VALUES THE STATUS BAR LIKE I DO". As a side note, several months ago Thunderbird did a really odd security update that destroyed my ability to send Email. I'm now a happy web mail user and nobody is trying to destroy my ability to use their product. If they had a mandate of 'intuitive changes', it would be different, but hiding things you are used to seeing in a place the WHOLE INDUSTRY is in agreement, this is the death knell to my interest, if not the product itself. If a large enough uproar cannot be generated, then it's probably not my kind of product anyway.CIAO.pcGnome

I just wanted to reply to a post by Grubbyashes in this thread (https://support.mozilla.org/ja/questions/997508#question-reply) but apparently you have to ask a NEW question in order to REGISTER so I'm starting a completely worthless thread for this purpose. Firefox 29 has been an absolute nightmare and reverting to Firefox 28 has solved all my problems, but just to vent my anger over spending an hour and a half trying to make Firefox 29 workable I will list all the problems I have encountered using Firefox 29.

1) All the buttons are messed up -Back button isn't at the left-most edge -History button is worthless and now requires 2 clicks to reach the History sidebar -Favorites button now takes up the space of 2 buttons instead of 1 -There's a useless new feature that has a bunch of buttons in a menu that I will never use as anything that I do, I will have it pinned onto the Navigation Toolbar

2) The implementation is buggy and Firefox 29 crashes on me at least once a day Firefox has been very stable and has never crashed more than once a week before Firefox 29 came around

3) There's no Title bar at the top of the screen At first I thought this wasn't such a bad improvement as there's no need to have "(page name) - Mozilla Firefox" taking up a few pixels...until I needed to move the browser window Now that there was no Title bar, there was no place to "click and drag", making it practically impossible to move the screen without first having to find the tiny bit of area in between the Menu buttons and the buttons on the Navigation Toolbar Same goes for maximizing a window/putting it back

Firefox 29 has been the worst thing that has ever happened to Firefox. Don't make the same mistake Microsoft made with Windows 8 and throw all the old users under the bus.
