The installation of Nightly caused major problems in Firefox. (Windows 10 PC) I want BOTH Nightly and Firefox on my computer; however my Firefox profile became corrupted in the process. Things like: the Bookmarks not appearing despite all the settings for them being correct; Firefox crashing when importing bookmarks. Fed up, I decided I wanted a completely new installation of Firefox. I could use my sync to my Firefox account to get most of what I needed back easily... I thought. I don't want to detail every step, they are too many. The important part, I think, is this. Installing Firefox, I need for it to create a new profile. Beause the old one had NUMEROUS corruptions, I got rid of it, thinking that Firefox can create a new profile when installing the software from scratch. But guess what? It will not do that. THE PROBLEM is that Nightly and Firefox share the same Roaming/Profiles folder, which means that the .ini files contain references to BOTH profiles in a single file. Profiles.ini contains both. Installs.ini contains references to both. If I delete - or try to alter the contents of - either .ini file, then Nightly loses its profile as well. I have restored those two files to where Nightly now starts up normally, thank god. But there is NOTHING I can do so far to get the new installation of Firefox to start up without trying to find the now missing profile which was corrputed to the point that it was more trouble than it was worth. It used to be possible to install Firefox and make whatever fixes were necessary before starting up the browser. Now it is not; it starts up automatically, or not at all. WHY is the setup designed this way? Really large error on the part of Mozilla developers to put the profiles info and installs info into the same file, so that upon uninstalling Firefox, you must either find the old corrupt profile again, or start from scratch with BOTH Nightly and Firefox. We waste SO MANY HOURS trying to work around the careless / thoughtless things that developers do! Please can someone help me? For now I have Nightly, but it looks like I will never have Firefox again after using it and its ancestors for 25 years. Thanks in advance!

So yesterday I got a new computer and downloaded Firefox to be my default browser. It worked fine the first few hours -- I was able to log into my account, set up my extensions, and use the browser as intended. A few hours in, though, it completely crashed on me. I am unable to go to new websites, refresh a page, open bookmarks, log in to my Firefox account, or even open settings; the home screen also doesn't load when I open a new tab. Literally the only thing I can do is freeze the Bookmarks Toolbar and customize the Toolbar. I tried closing and reopening, refreshing/resetting the browser, restarting my computer, going into Troubleshoot mode, deleting and redownloading the application, but nothing is working. I have no trouble with Firefox on my previous computer or my phone, and Edge is working fine on this computer. I don't know what to do anymore. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello,
I've set up Firefox to ask before updating, so I was taken aback by the fact that today, an update was automatically installed without Firefox asking me... (I was updated from 97.x to 98.0)
It is especially frustrating, as the mandatory "Restart" screen is broken when using several profiles, at least under Debian.
Let me know if you need more information.
Best regards,
Adonis

Hi!
When Firefox 96.0 rolled out on my machine, I was surprised to see my old Firefox Quantum theme default to dark. I did not enjoy this new behavior, so I tried to downgrade to 95.0.2. After installing it, Firefox told me it couldn't load the user profile, as it was used on a newer version of Firefox.
I have no idea where exactly I read this, but some website contained an instruction to erase compatibility.ini and that would allow me to use the profile on older versions. Tried that and it actually worked. I did notice that, when Firefox tried to update, it would say it failed. I was hoping that, once I find a solution to the forced dark mode and I update Firefox, the problem would go away.
Fast forward a few weeks, I found AutoConfig and browser.theme.toolbar-theme option in about:config. So I updated Firefox manually and applied AutoConfig and my original problem was gone.
Fast forward more weeks, there is another update for Firefox. And Firefox was still unable to automatically update. So I tried reconstructing compatibility.ini, which I did fully. But Firefox still won't update.
At this point, it's been like 3 months with a crippled user profile and I must say I'm tired of updating Firefox manually.
Is there any way I can fix this profile? If not, what exactly should I copy over so all my preferences, cookies, addons and themes get carried over to a new one?

Hi there!
I'm attempting to migrate my Firefox (106.0.3) profile from the Linux Mint V20.3 on one SSD to a new installation of Linux Mint V21 on a separate SSD. I'm using the information supplied on this page:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/back-and-restore-information-firefox-profiles
Step 4, under Backing up your profile says: Right-click on your profile folder (e.g. xxxxxxxx.default), and select Copy.
This folder, qspfoqtl.default, contains 1 file, named times.json, the contents of which are:
{ "created": 1618792039414, "firstUse": null }
Clearly, not my Firefox profile.
There is, however, a folder named nnob5aww.default-release that contains a bunch of directories and files (505.4MB) with names like bookmarkbackups, browser-extension-data... storage, weave.
Is this documentation incorrect as of this release of Firefox? And, should I be using the nnob5aww.default-release folder as the profile? I'm a little confused. (Most often, I'm a lot confused.) Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
- Ralph

Due to switching to a Linux distro with a slightly older version of Firefox, Firefox is complaining about the profile I copied in. The profile's compatibility.ini file says LastVersion=91.0.20210812023606/20210812023606. The current Firefox version is 90.0.2. Has the structure of the profile changed between these versions? If not, what's the best way to alter compatibility.ini?

The Firefox on my PC abruptly stopped working for pretty much no discernable reason and I don't know what to do. I've tried restarting the PC, uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox and nothing.
I dont get an error message. It just...doesn't start. If I reinstall it, I'm able to get the browser pulled up but then nothing on it works. It won't take me to any websites, it won't open the settings, it won't do anything. Refreshing the browser doesn't work either.
Failing that, I hopped on my phone and attempted to troubleshoot using information on this very site. I discovered that the problem might be stemming from corrupted profile data. I attempted to load the profile manager from Windows using command prompts...but that command doesn't do anything either.
I attempted to find the profile data on my computer and delete it...didn't work. I tried to reinstall Firefox to have it generate new browser data and that didn't work either. I dont know what to do and I dont know I'm supposed to fix this.
Please help, thank you in advance.

Installed flatpak and repositories but when I try to use flatpak to install firefox I get "No remote refs found similar to ‘firefox’".
I have tried following a few other ways to get it installed, such as using sudo and using sudo su but that has not worked at all.
I followed to flatpak quick setup on Chromebook guide that is linked in the above help article and created the nested containers in crosh as well.
below is what happens if I go to flathub and copy-paste their recommended command to install firefox.

The bar that contained those items disappeared in Firefox after the update to 110 I believe. I don't know how to get it back, I've searched settings. The bookmarks and all the data appear to still be there. It's been there since, I think, version .9 something. I updated to windows 10 from windows 7 about 3 months back. I noticed the change immediately. I don't even know what the bar is called. I still have my windows 7 machine since I am still trying to resolve problem with windows 10 and I'm even thinking of going back to window 7. It did the update to 109 without a problem.
HELP!!
It is probably something simple by windows is more a game machine to me. I learned computers on a GE-645 to give you an idea of how old I am.

52.9.0esr is claimed to be the last version for XP. Unfortunately it is not quite true. It is for XP SP2 ONLY. Trying to install on SP3 ends with the message that SP2 is required. IMO the installer is simply too strict on demanding exact version of SP ! https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/52.9.0/system-requirements/
I went through the list of versions (thanks Mozilla that they all are still available!) and found that the last version I can install is... version... 12.0b6. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/12.0/system-requirements/
And indeed I installed 12.0b6 successfully but I would like to install 52.9.

Dear Firefox community, I do not know why you are not solving your browser-short time memory loss problem! When I download a video / file, the internet is disconnected in the middle, and it takes a while to connect, then the download starts again from 0%! It wastes both my time and the internet. If the power connection is disconnected while downloading again - I don't get any backup of that file when I connect to the internet after the power connection is restored ...! However, other browsers have this advantage. I like Firefox a lot, but this short time memory loss system bothers me a lot. I hope to fix this issue in the next update. Humayun Rashid from-BANGLADESH

I'm currently in my vacation home and I don't have home internet here. I'm connecting through my mobile phone using limited mobile data. and I selected not to download updates because it keeps updating itself like twice in a week and every MB counts in limited data plans especially if it's just 4 GB total for each month.
But now every time I open the firefox it showing download latest update popup like an annoying virus on the top right corner where 3 horizontal lines are located.
I checked the internet and previously this was an option in it's settings. Then this option removed and only hidden behind the about:config . and now it's completely removed from about:config either.
The only reason I switched from chrome to firefox was because google became an absolute dictator lately and all it's changes was to limit down my accessibility. I switched to firefox becuse it doesn't backstab it's users and they give the choice to it's users rather than dictating it like dictators. So did I make a mistake switching to firefox? Is firefox becoming just like chrome now? or is there (hoping so much) and option given us to turn off the notifications as well?
