FF uses 100+ CPU on my otherwise totally fast up-to-date MacBook. This, despite doing all the fixes suggested, repeatedly.

It has gotten so bad that it constantly overheats my Mac, causes my fan to go on full blast non-stop, even when it's in the background, so I basically have to stop using it.

Mozilla needs to get serious and overhaul this heavy-use browser.

I've tried both version 40 and 42. Every time I try to load a webpage, Firefox quits responding part way through. I've gone through add-ons. I went through all the help articles and nothing worked. The problem started after installing Windows 10 and often happens on Politico and Fox News. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling. After the uninstall I scanned the registry with ccleaner

Firefox has been crashing when I open it for over a week now, and I really miss it. The problem started when I updated the SilverLight and Adobe add-ons/plug-ins. Firefox has never opened since. I have re-installed it, un-installed and then re-installed it, tried running it in Safe Mode, tried installing it in Safe Mode, tried re-installing it after deleting the C-drive folders, and even tried uninstalling Silverlight and Adobe and re-installing Firefox without them even in the system. I tried re-installing them and then re-installing Firefox--nope. Finally, I went back to restore point in my computer from a week before the problem.

When the computer was restored, Firefox was there--version 41-something (Oddly, it was set to upgrade itself), which wouldn't open because it could not find a file called XPCOM. I can't get into Firefox to reset it to the factory settings, which I'm sure include XPCOM.

What now? I love Firefox, and I'm not ready to be done with it...

Firefox (latest version, 43.0.4) is causing my HDD to run between 98% and 100% all the time and making heavy CPU demands too, fluctuating between 30% and 70% CPU being used by Firefox. I've tried clearing my cache and cookies etc. No change. And I've tried starting Firefox in Safe Mode. Again no change.

Tried disabling my Internet Security software (McAfee). Again no change.

Google Chrome doesn't do this and Microsoft Edge doesn't do this, so it's definitely associated with Firefox.

Running a PC with Windows 10 (64-bit Pro version 1511 with all subsequent updates installed).

After stopping Firefox in Windows Task Manager everything returns to normal. (0% HDD usage and 4% CPU usage.)

Help!

For the past couple of weeks, at random times while I'm using Firefox, it will suddenly halt. The screen dims and the hard disc is accessed continuously. After about 40 sec, everything comes back to normal. Any ideas why? Since it happens so randomly, it's hard to troubleshoot.

Hi, there! I am close to Firefox more then 10 years, but the last one I see that Firefox overload my old Macbook A1260 C2D processor and overheat it. Mostly it appears using Adobe Sockwave. May be anyone can recommend any other plugin instead of it. It seems possible, just because Chrome is more friendly browser to my Mac :(

What has happened with Mozilla? A month ago, there were no problems when watching stream video 1080p 60fps. But now it is impossible to do it: constant and long freezes. I have noticed that CPU load is almost 100% when watching stream. I have recorded the system parameters for 10 minutes for the same stream via Mozilla and Edge and the difference is great (see the attached files). I do not know what parameters were a month ago for Mozilla but definitely I never noticed any problems. Hope this info will be helpful to fix the problem.

Firefox will not start in normal mode nor in safe mode. It crashes instantly to the crash reporter, right after opening.

Everyone I know, and many reporters, here, are having memory leak problems. Hopefully, this will be repeatable, for you: - Run ff, with a single tab, and go to: weather.com, - run Task Manager, and watch cpu head toward 90%, and memory all get consumed.

This is on a Win10 box, clean install, with new install of FF57, and no add-ons. Same issue on Win7 box, which has worked fine, for many years, until 57 came along.

Hardware Acceleration is causing my desktop pc to freeze when enabled. Using latest 58.0.2 X64bit ver. whole browser is lagging when scroll up or down the page with heavy graphic contents if I disable it. this is first time I experiencing this problem.

Windows 7 64-bit Desktop. Firefox 58.0.2

I had 3 tabs open. While browsing my computer slowed to a crawl. I have experienced this many times. Even disabled my two addons with the same result. What can I do?

When I navigate to www.pcmag.com on my Surface Book 2. FF will hang or crash. I do not have this problem with other browsers on my laptop. Is this a known bug or do I need to update something.

I am running the latest FF version with default settings, the only add-on is BitWarden.

Has anyone else reported severe battery draining on a new M1 chipped MacBook Pro? I noticed that the battery was draining as quickly or quicker compared with the one in my old 2014 15" MacBook Pro. I checked Activity Monitor and saw that the CPU utilization for the Firefox WebExtensions process was consistently north of 99%, even while I was doing nothing.

I've switched to using Safari and I'm now getting the incredible battery life I expected having read all of the reviews for the new M1 laptop.

I've been using Safari (on battery, with the screen at full brightness) for over an hour now and it hasn't moved from 100% yet.

This morning it went from fully charged to below 20% in less than five hours with brightness at 50% or less for half of that time. I'm sure I can't be the only new MacBook user who has noticed this?

Please fix the problem Mozilla as I'd much prefer to use Firefox vs Safari but not if it kills battery time like this.
