I checked the boxes to remove browser history, cookies, cache and other things when the browser closes. However, for some reason Firefox doesn't delete cache completely when I close and reopen it.There is a privacy test at https://lucb1e.com/randomprojects/cookielesscookies/ that stores a tracking ETag code in cache and identifies you when you return. When I relaunch Firefox, the code is still in cache so the privacy test fails. The solution was to use an addon called "Empty Cache Button" and manually click the clear cache button. Is there any way to somehow "trigger" that addon to clear the cache automatically when the browser closes, starts or at a specific time interval ? I don't mind the performance impact of clearing the cache.Thank you.

EDIT: I've tested it on 2 different profiles.

As above, I made all the settings I could find to stop remembering my history and deleted everything, whether it be search or where I visited, but my search inquiries still bring up suggestions based on my history. Why is this happening, and what can I do about it? I realize it may be the search engine, not actually FF that's keeping the history, but I don't see how to get into the settings of the search engine (I'm using the Yahoo). Any suggestions?

I finally upgraded to Win10 and to my surprise Firefox 57 does not clear cookies from C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ocy0d10c.default\cache2\entries

[Note folder name may vary from ocy0d10c.default per machine]

Why doesn't Mozilla fix this? I have to manually delete them regularly. I found this folder first using CCleaner, which regularly does clear this folder via the clear cookies option. At the time I discovered it it had some 13,000 files. This slowed and slows my computer considerably if I don't keep up.

It would be very helpful not to have to manually check this folder and remove cookies, if the FF tool for clearing cookies would please incorporate this folder? Thanks.

When a user browses the web on Firefox's private browsing mode, is ANYTHING about the user's activity stored onto the hard drive (like browsing history, and more importantly cache files), even for an instant?

I know that the private browsing page says that it does not "save" this information, but that is kind of ambiguous as to how this data is actually handled. When you visit a page in private browsing mode, does Firefox store information and cache ONLY in the computer's RAM and never touches the hard drive, OR does it save data and/or cache onto the hard drive for a short time while while the private browsing window is active, and deletes it after you close the window? This distinction is extremely important because data saved to the hard drive, even for an instant, can be recovered by a file recovery program, or worse, by malware that collects data.

Has how Firefox handles what I talked about ever changed from version to version? What about on Android and iOS? Does private browsing behave differently on mobile?

I would extremely appreciate it if someone with a lot of experience with how Firefox works, or better yet, someone who works for Mozilla, can answer this question. Thank you.

I ask this question because a previous question asked almost two years ago claimed that Firefox's private browsing mode does indeed save data to the hard drive:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1107450

The question and (as a result) its answers were kind of ambiguous as to what Firefox's actual behavior was, so I am asking this question in hopes of obtaining a clearer answer about how Firefox handles data storage. Firefox is often praised as a privacy oriented browser, and as such, I feel that informing users of this information is vital.

I have several tabs that I have open on a regular basis that I use. I also have the option to clear browsing history when exiting Firefox checked. If Firefox crashes or I kill it with TaskManager, it will restore the tabs (and keeps history) but if I exit properly, it will not reopen the tabs even though I have the option 'Show your windows and tabs from last time' checked. There is not an option to open more than one home page. What if anything can I do?

Very often I need to delete cookies from web sites so the sites won't remember me. The cookies in private tabs never show up in "Privacy & Security / Cookies and Site Data" (so I can't delete them from there), and they don't go away when I close the tabs or windows. It seems that I can only get rid of them by shutting down Firefox - a horrible solution when I have many other tabs and windows open.

I can't believe that no way exists to delete cookies (and local storage) in private windows and tabs. Does anyone know some way to do that?
