I've noticed this over the past several versions of Firefox for OS X, and under Mavericks as well as Yosemite, on 2 different Macs of Mine: a 2009 Mac Pro and a 2012 Mac Book Pro.

The issues are: sometimes Firefox will not create a new tab or window when I press those keyboard commands, and sometimes, I am unable to type into form fields. Restarting Firefox will remedy the problem, until it happens again.

Otherwise, I find Firefox to be a great browser! Thank you for producing it.

I installed Firefox 50.0 with no add-ons or extensions. I've never had Firefox on this laptop. I didn't change any settings except to import my bookmarks/favorites from Internet Explorer.

I am using a Windows 10 Professional HP Envy laptop. I have a full-sized USB keyboard. Using Kaspersky Internet Security.

The problem I am having is that when Firefox is running, periodically my keyboard stops working on OTHER applications that are running.

How I recreate this is:

1. Restart Windows.

2. Launch an application. For example, in my scenario, it is any of a Remote Desktop session, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, and/or Skype.

All is working fine, keyboard-wise. And has always worked fine as far as I know. This includes the USB keyboard and the laptop keyboard.

3. Launch Firefox and visit, say, this page or GMail or any site really.

After a period of time, minutes or even up to an hour, suddenly any typing I perform in, say my Remote Desktop or in Word will just stop. For example, I type "the" and "the" doesn't enter in to Word or Remote Desktop or any other application that is running. All applications just stop accepting keyboard input. Any keys - letter or numbers or number pad numbers just don't register.

It will remain this way until the moment I close Firefox. The moment I do, all applications begin responding to keyboard input.

If I redo this scenario, it will occur again minutes or even an hour later.

Things I tried but didn't resolve this. I restarted my laptop before each attempt.

1. Searching here. 2. Reinstalling Firefox. 3. A new keyboard. 4. Use the laptop keyboard. 5. Visiting ONLY ONE page to see if it could be magically related to a specific web page, say GMail or a news site. 6. Searching the internet for "firefox keyboard stops working" which does have related hits with the most current that I've found being 2009. None of the things I found there or here seem to have helped.

The only thing that DID work was not using Firefox.

If I don't run Firefox the problem does not appear. The longest I've gone between restarts is 36 hours so I can't say "never", only that the problem hasn't appeared. I sometimes hibernate or sleep in those gaps. If I run Firefox, the problem will appear within one hour, which is what leads me to think the problem is somehow Firefox related.

Any ideas?

On my Lenovo laptop, the left shift key doesn't work within Firefox.

Both shift keys work in other browsers, other programs, etc. The right shift key works within Firefox. When I try to use the left shift key together with another key, nothing happens. For example, a capital H just won't appear and if I type "Hi" it appears as just "i". When I plug in an external keyboard, both the right and left shift keys DO work

What I've tried so far: - Uninstalled and reinstalled FF - Tried FF in safe mode - Uninstalled and reinstalled the keyboard from Device Manager in Windows - Restarted laptop

None of this works! Would appreciate suggestions.

Hi All fine until the latest Firefox update. Straight afterwards the keyboard wasn't functioning - weird characters and symbols instead of letters. I closed it down, opened in safe mode, closed down, opened normally and the keyboard working normally. Unfortunately I have to keep doing this. I can get Firefox to work by going into safe mode but it doesn't last. Keep getting keyboard problems. Is there a long-term solution please?

Since I upgraded to Windows 10, the keyboard isn't working well in Firefox. It misses the first key that i enter in all fields. I am running the latest version of Firefox and have updated Java. I am always having to re-enter data

Any thoughts how to rectify the issue? I'm not having this issue in any other program on the computer. CTRL C and CTRL V isn't working well either.

Hello, I am having major issues with wireless keyboard in FF. I have tried a few wireless keyboards in FF and there is a major lag while typing and things also do not type in the order they were pressed on the keyboard(s). Also keys "stick" while typing. like when I hit shift to capitalize the first letter of the word, the entire word ends up capitalized. Also some keys don't register (don't type at all.) These issues do happen anywhere else in the OS or in any other programs or web browsers. AGAIN, this happens with multiple types/brands of wireless keyboards. The wireless dongle is also located right next to the keyboard and in direct line of sight and it is not near anything that would cause interference. Any help is greatly appreciated.

This is on Windows 10 Anniversary Update and FF 48.0.2.

I am currently taking an online computer course that requires typing. There is currently no way to type a space as the space key scrolls down one page. I see that keyconfig is not available for Firefox 39*. Is there another way to disable space bar scrolling in Firefox 39?

I had bought Logitech keyboard which has a InHdian currency symbol key. I installed the hotfix for indian keyboard from Microsoft support webpage so as to use the currency. It worked well with MS office. However, firefox simply refused to display the text that I typed in the address bar. It only showed some garbage. I tried changing the keyboard back to US, even then it gave me the same result. I had to uninstall the keyboard inorder to get firefox running. Very frustrating experience.

Hi my keyboard is blocked only in Mozilla Firefox, only the F1, F2, F3, etc works, any letter or number does not work at all. This is one of those annoying things that can only happen with this browser. By the way I reseted Mozilla, reinstalled it several times but nothing changes. Can you please fix this serious bug on the next update? I can use other browsers until it's fixed. Thanks! Martin

I've read the forums and see that this is a recurring problem on different systems over a long period of time, but there seems to be no official fix to this issue since it's documented over a five year period (that I can find).

I'm running FF 41.0.1 on a MacBook Pro running OS 10.9.5. I have no FF add-ons.

This problem happens repeatedly on my wireless keyboard and my laptop keyboard. Sometimes if affects only keyboard shorts cuts, sometimes it affects EVERY input field in FF. Sometimes I have multiple tabs open, sometimes just one or two.

No apparent rhyme or reason. I can go days without a problem and then have it happen tow or three time is one day.

My fix is to quit and restart FF

When I try to type an underscore, Firefox inserts a space. This means I cannot enter my email address. The problem is not present in other browsers. I like using Firefox over the Windows 10 browser but this is a game changer, help please.

I had recently upgraded my Windows 7 Home Basic 32Bit to 64Bit. The Firefox v45.0.2 was also installed but still I am unable to type anything anywhere in the Firefox browser only even in the earlier versions as well e.g. v43, 45.0.1 etc. The other browsers are working fine. I had installed and uninstalled the Firefox, Reseted / Refreshed the Firefox, checked for my system keyboard as US Keyboard etc. several times but still there is no improvement. What could be the other probable checks and jobs in order to get the Firefox work properly? My Desktop PC has 4gb ddr3 1333Mhz ram, i3 2nd Gen processor and various other softwares installed including, but not limited to, various Security softwares like Kaspersky Internet Security 2016 etc.

As I try to type the input text into the search bar from the keyboard , nothing gets typed. The keyboard does not seem to be working on firefox latest version 53.0.2. This problem has cropped up only today (15th May 2017) A day before yesterday no such problem existed.. Please help solve the at the earliest.Thanks!

I am unable to use my keyboard for typing characters on any firefox page including the google search bar. I am able to type without problems on IE, notepad, word etc etc.

I have windows 10 installed on my PC and also Win XP on a dual boot - the keyboard functions fine on Firefox with XP. 

I have tried resetting and installing from scratch with no effect and have latest Firefox version. I use Kasperski IS latest version. Any help gratefully received as it’s a pain having to type everything into notepad and the copying & pasting!

The only keys that respond are the backslash and the period on the numeric pad..

Whatever I type, the letters and numbers do not show up correctly, i.e., as I have typed them. Instead, what appears are strange letters, numbers, and symbols that have no correlation to anything. Right now, as I type, I am forced to utilize the onscreen keyboard in order for letters to show up as letters instead of =kl;wrxw=p6`16q, for example. This only happens using Firefox, by the way, so I know it is neither a keyboard nor computer issue.

I installed Firefox on my Microsoft Surface Book 2. Overall it works fine. But when my computer is in tablet mode the pop up keyboard won't appear when I click on a search bar or other text spaces. How can this be fixed if at all?

I have a wireless keyboard and I cannot adjust the volume when listening to a video or music. I have to click away from the browser in order to adjust the volume for it to work. Sometimes I get a delay of about 3-4 seconds if/when it works which is very seldom. I do not have this issue at all with IE or Chrome. I love Firefox and would like to use it more but this is a bit of a annoyance and I have to use Chrome instead of this browser. Small bug that can be fixed. Thanks.
