does toggling the telemetryEnabled setting disable the pingsender?

I came across this article https://brave.com/popular-browsers-first-run/ which says the following

> A granular description of the device was also included in this payload: an Apple Model ID (if any), details about the CPU (e.g. cores, extensions, family, L3 and L2 cache, model number, speed, vendor), graphics card and display settings (e.g. name of graphics card, full on-disk address to drivers, driver dates, vendor, version, whether or not the GPU is active, amount of on-board memory, current state of D2D and DWrite, a granular set of feature flags, connected displays (how many, resolutions, refresh rates), hard drives (e.g. model names, type), operating system (e.g. name, date of install, locale, version, granular windows build number), security software (e.g. names of anti-spyware, antivirus, and firewalls in use), and more. > > One of the more interesting observations about this Telemetry payload is the presence of a key called environment.settings.telemetryEnabled, which was set to false. Presumably this would mean no such telemetry calls would be made, which clearly was not the case.

And was wondering if Firefox can shed more light on why it seems that disabling telemetry apparently does not stop the pingsender process?

Hello,

I am having problems downloading documents with Firefox. It happens very rarely, initially I only saw that problem on the Epson Microcontroller web site and now the same is happening on the Raspberry Pi web site. All other web sites work fine.

When I click on a link I get an error message that the web site cannot be found and to check the internet connection a.s.o. (see attachment). The link I clicked when I got this error message was:

https://datasheets.raspberrypi.com/rpi3/raspberry-pi-3-b-plus-reduced-schematics.pdf

It works fine on a Huawei tablet, so I suspect the problem lies with Firefox and / or my settings.

Any idea what is happening and how to solve that problem?

Kind Regards, Hugo

p.s.: the image upload here does not seem to work, the error message displayed says:

"Hmm. We’re having trouble finding that site. We can’t connect to the server at datasheets.raspberrypi.com. If that address is correct, here are three other things you can try:

   Try again later.
   Check your network connection.
If you are connected but behind a firewall, check that Firefox has permission to access the Web."

.

I have noticed that sometimes the firefox browser crashes when a video is playing. This has happened multiple times now. To debug the issue, this time i started the browser using terminal so that when the browser crash i will see the message on the terminal. This time i was watching a youtube video. And while the video was playing the browser first hangs(meaning the screen/video freezes and browser doesn't respond to any clicks or anything) for first 2-3 minutes and then it crashes. This time since i had started the firefox from terminal, after the crash i got the following printed out on the terminal: ``` user@user-Inspiron-xxxx:~$ /usr/lib/firefox/./firefox Exiting due to channel error. Exiting due to channel error. Exiting due to channel error. Exiting due to channel error. Exiting due to channel error. Exiting due to channel error. Exiting due to channel error. CPU time limit exceeded (core dumped) ``` I am using Ubuntu 18.04 and Firefox version 98.0(64 bit). I have downloaded the tar file of this version from Mozilla's official site and then installed it manually on my machine. Can someone help me solve the issue and also tell me the reason for this crash.

To debug this this time i opened the firefox from terminal and waited for it to crash. After some time while i was browsing, it suddenly crashed as i expected. What is the cause of this crash and how to solve it. After the crash i also typed: about:crashes on the address bar of the browser but when i pressed enter, i got a blank page on the top which No crash reports have been submitted was written.

Hello, I have recently moved to a new OS, windows 10 pro x64. I have installed firefox 98.0.1 (64-bit) and am experiencing an issue I never had with old versions, it has always been true of chrome but never firefox builds in my experience. If I have a tab open with a video, whether its a livestream or just a youtube video for example, if that tab loses focus within seconds the video will freeze but the audio will continue. Then when I return to that tab/window the video will be set to the lowest possible quality ( despite having a gigabit service) and it takes a while for the video to refresh and then a little while longer for the audio to sync back up. The video has always stopped playing if I use the windows "show desktop" shortcut on the bottom right of the screen, but in every previous version of firefox I have used, swapping tabs and/or windows never had this issue before.

It is a clean install, I do not have any extensions and am not connected to a vpn. I have tried

- turning hardware acceleration off
- disabling webgl
- changing the throttle option in about:config
- checked the network settings within firefox just to double check the proxy settings.

Few things I to note All of my drivers are up to date, there are no readily apparent reasons on my end for this. My system is pretty decent I think, ryzen 7 1700x, 32gb ram, 1 tb m.2, 1080ti Also turns out the video will start to load if I hover over the window in taskbar so that the preview pops up, however in that case I still need to open the window back up because it treats it like I have just opened that website and I have to click in the video to start playback

Other than digging through firefox old versions and testing them 1 at a time to find the one I use to have I am not sure what I should try next. Thank you

I am on Arch Linux using i3. I have been using Firefox for a while but recently switched from Nautilus to pcmanfm as my file manager. Now Firefox is unable to save any file or do anything else that requires opening the file manager. Running it through the terminal I get:

"Can't open portal file chooser: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.freedesktop.portal.Desktop was not provided by any .service files"

I have xdg-desktop-portal installed and have tried xdg-desktop-portal-{gnome, gtk, and kde}. I have also tried setting widget.use-xdg-desktop-portal to both true and false, neither of which changed anything. Reinstalling Nautilus also doesn't fix it. Does anybody know what could be causing this?

Hi,

I am on a Mac Pro running High Sierra. Everytime I launch Firefox I get a error message that "this file may harm your computer" which is a .dmg in my downloads toolbar. I think I clicked on a bad link. I have cleared my cache and history and it still always pops up. I do not want this file nor do I want it to give me this warning everytime I launch Firefox.

Any advice is helpful.

Thanks
