Windows 10 Firefox 88/89 64-bit PC It seems there was a compact mode before version 89? I don't know if that's what I want.

I would like to have a simple selection in FF Preferences to turn OFF the Proton stuff. I am not an IT geek and I'm not comfortable doing things like changing CSS code - if I knew how to do that stuff, I'd be using Linux not Windows. Since I'm stuck with Windows, I rely on a good browser like FF v.88 to take care of the technical stuff.

Version 89 seems to be OK with Proton shut off, but I hear this is a temporary fix. I also don't know if shutting off Proton fixed the spacing nightmare in Bookmarks - I lost mine reloading v.88 and haven't had a chance to look for them. (v.89 is on the PC upstairs - this one is still on v.88.)

For some context on the anger at FF's change, those of us who use Facebook on a regular basis were forced into a horrendous update in late 2021 which barely works, and Facebook continuously changes code, fixing what isn't broken. To find that the browser we've relied on for years did the same with no warning is very upsetting.

I'd like to get a message directly to Mozilla but "Submit Feedback" has been shut down for over a week.

Newer release of Firefox auto-fill username and password when they should not. I have a web application that has a list of people. Optionally (form is even hidden requiring a click to see) a person can be a user (rare). My username and password are auto filled in ALWAYS now for the person (even when the form is not showing). Can I just change the field names (username, password) in the jsp and have Firefox NOT fill mine in automagically? Or if not, how do I tell the browser that these are normal fields - leave them alone PLEASE (do not auto-fill)?

The search engines I've added do not appear in the list after clicking the green + sign in the search box and they do not appear in the list in the options either. I used the "add more search engines" found in the bottom of the search engines list to find the missing engines and add them again, but when I find the engine I want to add there is only the "remove" button. So this tells me the missing engines in the list are still there but not accessible. I tried removing the added search engine and then adding it again but this did not make them appear in the search engine list. Everything was working fine until getting the last update before Firefox 89. Is there a way to fix this???

What can I do to resolve this issue, so I can access my NAS? Thank you for you assistance.

I'm looking for help with using GPO's to control Firefox settings. When I modify anything in the Preferences section, the GPO description says to use JSON to configure and has a github website. At the github website, there are two examples. Should I be using the Windows GPO example or the policies.json example? Also, in both examples, entries have a "status" value, where does this come from?

I'm using firefox 88.0.1, Windows 10. I also use "Adblock plus" and "YouTube enhancer". When I watch a YouTube video, it almost always forces the highest resolution. I don't mean "default", I mean "force". When I change the resolution to 480p (or anything else) it immediately reverts to the highest setting. Then it buffers (preloads) the video, using much more bandwidth than just the "per minute" toll for 1080p, because it is using bandwidth for the preloading as well. Is anyone else experiencing this (I think it started just this month, May 2021, or not long before that)?

It's all in the title. The "quick searches" feature that pops up when I highlight text is a lot more annoying then useful, so I turned it off... and it seems to re-enable itself randomly. One time I disabled it, and after 5 seconds, it re-enabled itself. So annoying. I've made so many accidental searches with that stupid feature. I mean, how many people copy text just to search it up? Even then, they can highlight the text, right click, then click "Search (engline) for (text)".

The point being, the feature is re-enabling itself randomly, and it's getting on my nerves.

I don't see any option within the settings to turn it off. Any ideas?

Thanks,

    Stephen

Currently on v88.0.1 on Windows 7 desktop, Windows 10 Laptop and Mac OSX Sierra. Looked at a review with screenshots of v89 and noticed a few issues. Where did the 'Customize Toolbar..." option go? It also appears the the 'Compact View' for tabs is being moved/phased out? that would not be ideal on a small screen. Being able to customize my view is one of the main selling points for Firefox. On Windows 10 HP laptop we still put up with occasional audio getting killed in Firefox (Edge never does this) and having to play a wave file in Groove Music to get the sounds back.

I switched back to version 88. The "Upgrade" was intolerable. I need, want, and use daily the little icons at the top of the screen: The Open Book to show Side Bars to toggle my bookmarks into and out of view, and the Leaning Library books to manage my bookmarks. These were missing in the new version. And Firefox moderators kept turning of and archiving comments because they just didn't want to hear al the complaints.

I created this in a new account, because it sounded like a good idea when the question was asked (to preserve my existing settings). But now I don't have my previously open tabs. Can I get back to that previous "upgraded account to find my tabs and restore them to this new account in god old version 88?

Hi. I'm experiencing issue when FF pops up new window (I need it this way), it pops up right behind taskbar, which I have on top of the screen (used to it since Amiga), so that I can't reach top of the popup to slide it or minimize etc. and have to stretch it a bit to get it bellow the taskbar. Annoying. I thought it is a Windows issue, but Chrome works well, no hiding popups, just alligning them bellow the taskbar. I don't wanna use Chrome, so please, let me know about workaround. Thanks. hippo

I really hope there's a way to sort the tabs/windows listed in the Windows drop-down menu. It would be pretty cumbersome, time-wasting, and absurd that Firefox, in 2021, makes us look up & down for a certain tab, due to their being shown in completely random order. Is there a way to put them in either alphabetical or chronological order?

There is a whole group of people out here with visual difficulties. Me personally, I have what's called Low Vision. I have difficulty seeing stuff clearly. I've read all the comments about the recent change to 89, and have myself tried the various themes provided to no avail. This is an extremely big concern, and may well be a legal one. Please reference the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Here are a few observations that may be useful to the developers: Never, Never, Never, NEVER present a user with Low Vision white (or light) text on a dark background. NEVER! We just can't read it.

CONTRAST. We need contrast. The most recent changes that came with 89 have no contrast. Don't argue with me; just believe me. There is not enough contrast to be able to distinguish between items (e.g. different tabs at the top). That's particularly applicable when I try to read a tab and can't because the tab's background has become transparent and I can't read the "print" because of the very busy theme design in the background. Reference my comment above about presenting white text on a black background. It's just as bad with a transparent background. When it comes to design, just because you can doesn't mean you should.

SIZE. For most of us, each item needs to be larger. I'm referencing the icons that represent the various hyperlinks. I have such trouble making out each one of them. And there does seem to be a lot of white space that we didn't have before. I don't need all that white space; I need to see what I'm looking at.

I'm going to suggest that you recruit someone with experiencing designing graphics for folks with vision challenges. Cause right now, it looks like you don't have anyone like that on your team. And if you can't present us with suitable choices, I'm willing to bet there's a considerable number of users who will find it necessary to move on to a new browers.

Thanks for listening.

FEEDBACK FROM A VERY UNHAPPY FIREFOX USER 01-JUN-2021

I received a push update to Firefox 89.0. On my machine (which has a small screen geometry) the new layout is very (very) inefficient - waaaay too much space between screen widgets.

I looked for how to reverse the UI in 89.0 and the procedure was too complicated and time consuming to do in the time available.

I downloaded Firefox 88.0.1 and installed that over 89.0, but upon startup it will not accept the profiles and insists on creating a new profile or exiting (either option BAD).

Fortunately I had imaged the whole machine about a week before, so I was able to get back to 88.0.1 and resume use of my profiles (which have lots of stored data and specific preferences.)

MOZILLA FIREFOX TEAM HERE THIS:

1. Pushing down a non-trivial change to UI is very Windows-8-esque and is bad form without an option to (easily) back out. Microsoft has evidently learned this lesson - each Windows 10 update comes with an option to back out.

2. Leaving Mozilla's "feedback" page inoperative when pushing this extent of update is bad form.

3. My trust in Mozilla is somewhat damaged at this point; I will not accept any update after 88.0.1 I am running now until I have time to pre-test it in a "safe" environment.
