It happened a couple of times, I checked the privacy setting, I tried to delete "recent history" , then clear all cookies and manage privacy setting and it worked but after a couple of days there we go again. It has been a nightmare frankly, I do not know what else to do. Please help!

A games site that I like requires an activation code to get in, but after a certain number of uses of the activation code, the code becomes invalid and I can't get in. The site uses permanent cookies to get past the activation code requirement (a bookmark won't do it). How do I allow permanent cookies for this one particular site? I don't want to disable tracking on any other site, just this one. Thanks! Kathy

When I go to archive.is for example I get error 1001 Ray...etc. Screenshot below. I googled this problem and it took my to cloudflare's support where user "domjh" shared this support page: https://support.cloudflare.com/hc/en-us/articles/200168436. But this doesn't help, as you have to login to your cloudflare account, which I have never had. This problem only occurs with firefox. I have tried other browsers and can access archive.is without a problem. Everything is normal. Now I cleared my cookies (which is when this error happened afterwards) and unplugged my modem for a few minutes (about 15) in order to get a new IP address (someone somewhere I read mentioned that might help). This didn't do anything, same error as before. I also went to about:preferences#privacy and clicked "standard" (for some reason it was at custom and had been blocking cookies, not sure why, I didn't do that). Then I went to cloudflare support, but you have to have an account to ask questions. I set one up with my email, but then you have to add your website. I HAVE NO WEBSITE! So I don't know what to do, and this has never happened before. This is not a problem on other devices, or on this computer with other browsers. I am using a windows 10 PC and have a dynamic IP address. Please help.

Hello,

I've been using the 2-step verification method with my Gmail account and , having set cookies' lifetime to session only, wanted to keep the setting that allows my PC to log in without checking the smartphone every time.

First I thought to add an entry to the exception list with the accounts.google.com domain, but I want to log in my account with my password whenever I restart Firefox so that's a no go.

So I was thinking that if I kept the specific cookie from accounts.google.com that identifies my PC as a trusty device (which I believe is called SMSV) then that would be it, though perhaps its not that simple. In any case, if that was indeed a solution, how would you guys select only a few cookies from the same site in Firefox? Is it possible?

What I want to do is limit the cookies that are allowed to the sites that I visit the most, then delete the rest on browser exit.

That way, I get logged in automatically to my favorite sites, then f* the rest of those cookies.

My plan is to:

1) Manually delete all cookies, 2) Quickly visit and sign in to all my favorite websites, 3) Add permissions to allow only those cookies that were added, 4) Then set the "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed" checkbox

Unfortunately, there is no easy way to do 3) because the Manage Data and Manage Permissions dialogs don't talk to each other.

It would also be nice to be able to specify a domain or general expression for allowed cookies, such as *.bankofamerica.com

I guess what I am asking for is better tools to add allowed cookies from existing cookie lists instead of the very blunt tools we have today.

I am using Firefox v 75.0

Thank you.

In Firefox "about:config" there are 2 separate entries: "network.cookie.lifetimePolicy" (which has a numerical entry) and "network.cookie.lifetimePolicyd" which has only a true/false choice.

There is only the one character difference in their names, but an obvious difference in the setting.

What is the difference between these 2 "about:config" entries? In particular, what does "network.cookie.lifetimePolicyd" do?

I have Firefox v. 73.0.1 installed on a 64 bit Win 7 Pro SP1 computer with i5 processor and 8 GB RAM.

Immediately after updating to version 74.0, I noticed Firefox had logged me out from all sites I usually am automatically logged into at the start of a session. It was not the first time I encountered this problem, as it had been happening at irregular intervals, and found that it was caused by firefox replacing the "cookies.sqlite" file in my profile folder with a new one, while also dubbing the old one "cookies.sqlite.bak". I always resolved the problem by:

-Closing Firefox

-Deleting the recently created "cookies.sqlite" in my profile folder

-Renaming "cookies.sqlite.bak" into "cookies.sqlite"

-(Usually) Creating a copy of the .bak file and keeping it in a folder as insurance, in case I found no recent .bak the next time it happened or it got corrupted somehow

After doing this, upon starting firefox I would find all my cookies in place and myself logged in all sites I cared about (I set it up so that firefox restores a long-running, multi-windowed session at startup).

On a side note, I was always able to know whether my "cookies.sqlite" file had been rewritten by checking its size: if it had been just created, it would always be 512 Kb; the backup .bak file is instead 1.50 Mb.

Onto the problem at hand: after updating to 74.0 and finding that I lost all cookies and logins, I repeated the process highlighted above, as usual. It didn't resolve the problem though: I still didn't recover any cookie even though I switched the "good" .bak file with the newly created "cookies.sqlite". Upon starting firefox, instead of loading my 1.50 Mb .sqlite it keeps immediately renaming it .bak and creating its own cookies.sqlite. I even tried using a slightly older .bak, one that I had successfully switched before: the result was the same.

I am at my wits' end: I checked and tried various cookie and privacy settings, but since firefox updated it seems determined to shun my old cookie backup in favor of creating its own empty, useless file. There also doesn't seem to be any recent documentation on this problem I can find. I even considered opening and checking both .sqlite and .bak files for any obvious differences, but I'm afraid I just don't know how.

Those cookies are critical for my navigation. "Major Annoyance" wouldn't even begin to describe starting a session without those.

I've been digging into an issue about the "A web page is slowing down your browser," and it seems that the most frequent explanation for this is corrupt cookies/cache. However, the issue wasn't repeatable on my site. After some digging, I found that its possible for a corrupt `cookies.sqlite` if the max file size has been reached and a suggestion that FF automatically resets this `cookies.sqlite` store when this happens.

I suspect that this issue happened when the user maxed out their cookies, causing a corrupt `cookies.sqlite` file. Then, when they restarted FF, their store had been cleared and they had no problems.

However, I cannot find any documentation about FF behavior when in handling corrupt cookies or resetting the `cookies.sqlite` file. I'm looking for some concrete answers. What is FF's cookie store limit, and what is its behavior (if any) when the store is maxed?

Worth mentioning, this was FF on Linux. I don't know the specs beyond that.
