After Firefox updates itself, the restarted browser session is unresponsive to mouse clicks - can't follow links, can't respond to UI dialog boxes, the browser is unusable for practical purposes. It's fixed after another manual restart. This unfortunately breaks all the streamlining Firefox has done to restore the session after an update, because none of that stuff works the same after a manual quit and restart. This is happening on MacOS, and it happens across multiple computers.

I am having a problem with my Firefox homepage. There are several things going on like the red, yellow and green dots on the left side of the menu change to light dark. Some of My Bookmarks appears twice and one was added. I did a Refresh and troubleshooting but to see if my home page would go back to normal but it did not. I think I have a bug that is causing these changes on my Mozilla Browser. I need to get the browser back to normal.

How on earth do I add Quant to the Firefox search engine? This info is no where under the help section, only lots of reading about warnings! In Firefox preferences I have made Quant my default browser so why is this so difficult? I vaguely saw a little warning message saying that Mozilla was not allowing this but this warning was hidden and I can't find it again. Firefox guided my to 'pin' Quant to the Firefox toolbar but every time I open a page to search I have to remember to hit the Quant pin. This is absolute nonsense. Please email me back and tell me how I can add Quant to my Firefox so that every time I open Firefox the Quant homepage will just be there. Thank you. Cynthia

Firefox version 122.0 Mac: Sonoma 14.1.1 apple silicon

The problem emerged about a little over a year ago (around September 2022). It started with an installation of firefox on another machine running BigSur, and I guess the problem got ported when I restored a time machine backup on this current machine. I attempted to troubleshoot the issue by following mozilla support and reddit threads but to no avail. I, at the time, settled on monthly time machine backups, but now finally decided to address it properly.

Troubleshooting steps that I have followed:

• going into the about:config page and changing the places.history.expiration.max_pages and places.history.expiration.transient_current_max_pages to 2147483647 then to 999999 after reading about how a value too high might be ignored (both values didn't seem to change anything)
• going into the about:config page and changing the places.history.expiration.transient_optimal_database_size to 85534800
• removing the add-on/extension manager as seeing that it might remove history for some reason (from a [thread] by IceTemple)
• In the privacy and security tab, history is set to Firefox will use custom settings for history

Things I suspect might be the problem:

• I originally used the Chinese version of firefox (downloaded from the .cn website) and reinstalled the international version (from .com) after getting annoyed by the built-in ads. For convenience sake, I ported the profile folder over which might have carry the problem over. That being said, I don't think this problem existed when I just started using firefox but appeared awhile later.
• result of an update, don't know which though
• certain extensions (I haven't went through them individually since I installed a lot)

My questions:

1. How to stop Firefox from doing this ever again?
2. Alternatives of storing history if nothing works
3. Why did my troubleshooting steps not work? Is there something wrong with my version of firefox that prevented the about:config changes from working?
4. If I have to resort to backing up the places.sqlite history file, how do I restore/reintegrate them with current history file?

When I put the address "https://store.google.com/product/fitbit_charge_6?hl=en-US&source=sh/x/srp/wr/m1/1&kgs=9049baa04a7bf560" into Firefox and hit return, I get no response. Literally nothing.

I have a Mac desktop, a laptop with Windows 11, and an Android phone. I have about 120 bookmarks saved. On my Mac, they periodically backup fine and I can restore them if anything goes wonky. My phone and Windows laptop both show all the same bookmarks as the Mac. However, if I go to Manage Bookmarks to restore them on the Windows laptop, it shows many backups have occurred but only 5 bookmarks have been backed up. I have signed out of Firefox on all devices and signed back in. The Windows laptop did one correct backup showing the 120 or so bookmarks, and then every subsequent backup shows only 5 again. After a few weeks, the "correct" backup has been overwritten and is gone.

Anybody know what I can check to make the Windows laptop backup my bookmarks correctly?

Tell me how to delete Google as the default search engine & replace it with another one. If I can't do this I will remove Firefox and also the Mozilla VPN from all my computers. I have used Firefox for years and supported Mozilla. As far as I'm concerned you people have lost your way if you do not give people the option to change their default search engine.

Menu-pulldowns malfunction, after a while of usage, on a large 2ndary monitor, on M1-Max macOS Sonoma -- I have to shutdown, and restart Firefox to re-activate !

This problem occurred recently and it's quite a pain in the ass. I'm using Macbook Pro 14 inches with M1 Max chip. Lately when I work, I have to open quite many urls at the same time, and my mac went crazy hot because of firefox's insane cpu usage. I tried what's suggested to turn off the acceleration mode, but still, nothing changes.

Is there still anything I can do to resolve it? or I just switch to other browser?

I attend Berklee online and the learning environment has videos as well as empty spaces to write answers and text. Whenever I enter the empty space to write text, every press of the spacebar starts and stops multiple videos on that page.

Their strict advice is to use Chrome, but that is the last thing I want to do.

Hi, Hope you well. My previous laptop was stolen and I'm trying install now all my saved bookmarks. I had no problem to get them back on Chrom after looging to my Account. But I can't get back my old bookmarks on Mozilla. I see only the one which was saved on Chrome. Can you please help restore all my bookmarks before today day? I'll be really gratefull for help. Video play problem on Mac Current Firefox version fails to play videos on my Mac (OS 14.2.1). When I click play on a video on any website, the video is extremely slow to start, then immediately stalls for several minutes at a time. My internet connection isn't the issue I'm getting over 650 MBS. I assume the problem is with Firefox, because both Safari and Opera play videos just fine.

I used the password manager feature years and go to it probably 5+ times a week. I went to look for a password today and there are only 5 accounts in there. Trying not to panic I went to my computer to see if it was just my iOS device that wasn't showing them all for some reason, but only the same five accounts are in there too. When I first setup my ipad, all the accounts in the password vault sync'd but they all showed empty so I never bothered looking them up on there. I'm wondering if somehow the ipad's failed sync caused all the other passwords to be corrupted and removed from my account somehow. The 5 accounts I do have are all new accounts I've made over the past month, and I've used it a ton since the old ones. Any ideas for how I could get them back?

How to reach a site used in the past (whether typed URL or used saved Bookmark!) ---but now Firefox won't let me access now, please?! I have some sites for decorating my online gaming site. Your settings warn me that the site isn't ---https://. --- which I realize, and FIREFOX stops me from going to the site. How do I temporarily use a site, then restore the security? Firefox keep crashing when I use certain websites (realtor.com is one that comes to mind). I use a Macbook pro. I've updated my operating system, updated Firefox, and tried to use Firefox in troubleshooting mode. Everything is up to date, and the crashes still happen in troubleshooting mode. I was able to customize my new window to display www.google.com however I only have the option to select "Firefox" or "Blank" for new tabs. I would also like new tabs to open to www.google.com. How can I do this?

When I want to go to the NY Times, and i type "nyt" the address bar automatically populated with the rest of the URL "nytimes.com". When I do the same thing with gmail and "gmail" it runs a search on a search engine instead of completing the rest of the URL.

Why would it do this for one website and not another? How do I fix this, I use gmail all the time so its a bit of a time waster.
