How can I trigger Firefox to check for updates via a command? We have FF installed on users' computers, but some users never use it. I would like to be able to trigger the FF updater to check for updates on a regular schedule. If FF is being used, then it would alert the user of the need to restart as usual. If not, then it will just update itself.

This would be for both Windows and Mac

Security Error Code - Domain Name doesn't match server's certificate

Hi all, hoping someone can help with this very specific issue...

The question: Is there any way to satisfy Firefox's third party routing so that a secondary unattached domain can be redirected to a subfolder of another domain?

The explanation of the issue: A client of mine has a site built on Wix, with a domain held by GoDaddy. The domain was on GoDaddy servers in order to redirect to a specific page on the Wix site instead of the home page (Wix does not support this option using its own DNS servers).

They noticed that *only* when using Firefox on Windows 10 was there a security error code that blocked access to the site, giving the following message:

Warning: Potential Security Risk Ahead

Firefox detected a potential security threat and did not continue to www.minditrimblementoring.com. If you visit this site, attackers could try to steal information like your passwords, emails, or credit card details.

What can you do about it?

The issue is most likely with the website, and there is nothing you can do to resolve it. You can notify the website’s administrator about the problem.

Learn more…

Websites prove their identity via certificates. Firefox does not trust this site because it uses a certificate that is not valid for www.minditrimblementoring.com. The certificate is only valid for the following names: shortener.secureserver.net, www.shortener.secureserver.net Error code: SSL_ERROR_BAD_CERT_DOMAIN View Certificate

--

This was not able to be replicated on the same system on Chrome, Edge, or iPhone Safari browsers. They had to click "Advanced" and then "Accept the Risk and Continue"

There is no error message for the actual root domain of the website. From what I understand, Firefox reroutes the DNS to a partner service for security (in this case shortener.secureserver.net), which is not happy with the redirect setup.

For now, I have switched over to Wix servers so that no one trying to access the site receives security warnings.

The client would like to retain the ability to redirect to these to specific pages on the site, but they are concerned about people being turned away from getting a big ol' security risk warning if they are using Firefox.

So here's my question again (so you don't have to scroll back up): Is there any way to satisfy Firefox's third party routing so that a secondary unattached domain can be redirected to a subfolder of another domain?

Thank you for any insight - this is *not* my realm, as I help people with branding and design work and am not a developer / coder.

Hello, Let's start with 'I'm not a great techie' - I have looked for the answer to my problem but either can't find it or the reply is too complex for me. I'm using Firefox 86.0.1 (updated 13 March I think) on a Mac. Recently Firefox has been crashing a lot and I used 'Restore session' to restore my tabs (7 windows, 111 tabs). I used Restore Session because the Tab Session Manager app has been stuck on 06.02.21 for ages (6 windows/50 tabs, for some reason it only shows that session, and nothing since). This morning I had to restart my Mac and this time Restore Session only restored the last two tabs I opened, maybe because I have been tinkering with Firefox preferences in order to solve the problem (trying to find out where the Tab Session Manager backup folder was for instance, which I couldn't). So my question is: how can I restore my olds tabs of 7 windows/111 tabs? Ideally with the session I am using now, which would make it 8 windows/122 tabs in all) And I have an additional small query: in my attempts to solve the above, I clicked the small red 'Autosave browser exited' (on the right of 'Add tag' in Tab Session Manager) in order to see if that helped. I must have clicked the small X because 'Autosave...' disappeared and I can't find a way to restore it. My thanks to all of you who help nincompoops like me.

I have a long-standing Firefox account under a primary email ("email1") with a secondary email (email2). I've gotten locked out. Firefox won't let me sign in under email2; it requires email1 for sign in.

For email1, I know the password but have set up two-factor authentication. I have my authentication device and authenticator app. But, perversely, there is no app entry for Firefox. I have Microsoft's app but I have used it only for Microsoft-related sites.

How the Devil I could have enabled 2-factor authentication but lost the Firefox entry for it in the app, I neither know nor understand.

I have access to both email1 and email2. I know all the answers to every secret question I've ever answered. I know everything about me there is to know. I am me after al.

Is there any information, any combination of facts, that might satisfy Firefox that I own my account and let me turnoff 2-factor authentication?

For example, I have both Chrome and Safari accounts set up with the same username and emails, and have access to them. My user name is absolutely unique across the internet. I guarantee that no one other than me has ever used it or could ever duplicate the scheme I used to create it. I have so many accounts set up under that username that it must be patently apparent that the one at Firefox in that username is mine. Perhaps that would satisfy Firefox that I own the same-configured account at Firefox.

Can I get the attention of a live person at Firefox, one that can reason independently, one that can recognize the obvious and certain fact that the account belongs to me?

What can i do? Please don't tell me nothing. I don't care about losing the data. I just want my email addresses freed up so I can open another account.

I downloaded Firefox (86.0.1) on my Mac laptop and on my Mac desktop - both running the Big Sur v 11.2.3 I imported data from Safari and the bookmarks are mostly okay but I did not get the login passwords. I added a few passwords in my laptop but they will not sync to the desktop. I added a profile photo on the desktop but it doesn't show on the laptop. They are both signed in under the same email account in Firefox. But the syncing isn't working. Help. Alan

I would rather not post the problem publicly. Most organizations have a way to log security exploits in a way that they are not public.

The long and the short of the symptom, however, is that I could see all of my passwords without entering the master password. That's probably something that you don't want to happen.

When I install Extensions, many of them want "access your data on all websites" or some version of it. For a completely unknown extension I am not likely to be comfortable with that, *if the extension can send that data to external endpoints on the web*. But many add-ons don't need that permission. For example, an add-on that just adjusts styles on a webpage doesn't need to contact the Internet at all. (It would still need to check for updates, but I assume Firefox would do that and it wouldn't require granting carte-blanche internet access to the Extention).

I am generally comfortable with an extension contacting the Internet if it doesn't have any of my data (so that nothing privacy-relevant can be sent). I'd also be comfortable with an extension having major access to data if the data can *never* be sent anywhere - it is just on my machine. But Firefox doesn't seem to distinguish between these two extremely different privacy cases.

Is there some plan to implement this, or else some reason why it is not done? Is the technical challenge extreme for some reason?

I (and I suspect many others) could use a lot more extensions comfortably if this kind of privacy protection was available.

Possible causes are that security software if blocking access to places.sqlite in the Firefox profile folder.

Did you try to close and restart Firefox or reboot the computer ?

Thank you for your prompt reply.

I do not have any security software that would suddenly block access and it was working fine until yesterday morning.

I have closed and restarted Firefox several times and followed your advice. I have also rebooted my computer.

In the last couple of days since the Firefox update to my Macbook Pro (to Firefox 78.9) when I do a Google Search for some item, and the results come up with the individual windows for each seller's item just below the search bar, when I click on an item the little window just goes blank. It used to take me to the website which was linked to that window. The strange thing is now it only links to anything sold my Amazon. Any other links are dead. It works fine in Safari and Chrome browsers, but not in Firefox any more. I have restarted the browser, the computer and closed all the tabs in the browser before restarting, Still no good. Any help or suggestions would be great!

I have enabled notifications in Google Calendar and allowed them in Firefox browser for MacOS. But I am still not getting popups like I would expect. The sound plays notifying me I have an upcoming event but there is nothing visual to tell me this other than the sound icon that appears during the sound on the tab. Is this how Google Calendar is supposed to work? Tab switching is also enabled but I don't get switched to Google Calendar. I leave it open all the time in a pinned app, so I don't see why there would be an issue here.

Please find my attached images where I think things are correctly set up.
