Hello!

I've change the size of the icons in the bookmark bar by using the userChrome.css which now has

  1. personal-bookmarks .bookmark-item > .toolbarbutton-icon { height:25px !important; width:25px !important; }

I've increased the height and the width for larger size of the icons since my bookmarks don't have text. The problem is that some of the become blurry after the enlargement. I've tried to force refresh the favicons by Ctrl+F5 and also deleting the cache, but it still does not work.

I know that favicons are usually provided in 16x16 px and 32x32, but I don't see how could I make firefox use the 32x32 version since it's using the 16x16 and enlarging it.

Thanks in advance!

Hi, everyone!

I found a similar solution but only for "Open link in new tab": you can go to about:config and change the preference named browser.tabs.loadBookmarksInBackground. But I want the same thing for my saved bookmarks on Bookmarks Toolbar. Sometimes I need to open a few bookmarks from one folder and then I used for it middle-click or click on Open in new tab, but it switches to tab immediately and I should repeat a process again: click on a folder, find a bookmark, click on it, new tab opened and so on. So is there an option to open bookmarks in background tabs? How can I achieve that?

Hi, Linux user here. So I've set up fallback fonts for Arabic script languages, both using system configuration files and the Firefox preferences. However, on websites, the Arabic text is not displayed in the font I have chosen, rather other fonts. It used to be so that all text using Arabic script used the font I had chosen, but now it's only true for when I type in the address bar, the window titles, etc, not for websites. How do I fix this?

I would like to stop the image moving or block it once and for all. The animated image is shown here: https://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,154209.msg1323298.html#msg1323298

It is in the poster's signature; it doesn't just move across the page once, it keeps moving across; now another user of that forum has added it to his signature also.

I have these in about:config: image.animation_mode none ui.prefersReducedMotion 1

I have tried blocking the element with uBlock Origin and stopping javascript on the site. I can remove it using another add-on but that only works for that occasion. I don't want to install NoScript because it stops Facebook working.

I installed chrome and it plays all the videos. So there must not be any problem in OS.

I have a piece of code which has worked fine since I wrote it almost 20 years ago and which has only been fine tuned as the standards for JavaScript have been refined over those two decades. The functionality is to act when the user stops typing into a textbox for 0.9 seconds, which by trial and error I found was fast enough to act without premature invocation because the user was just typing slowly.

```javascript // in the initialization code element.addEventListener('keydown', onKeyDownName); ... function onKeyDownName(event) {
   if (timer)
       clearTimeout(timer);
   timer   = setTimeout(update, 900);
   alert("nominalIndex.js: onKeyDownName: timer=" + timer)
} // function onKeyDownName
function update() {
   alert("nominalIndex.js: update:");
   // perform the function
} ```
The alerts are only inserted, on my private test site only, to try and debug why this code is no longer working. Each time I type a character I see the alert "nominalIndex.js: onKeyDownName: timer=nnn" but no matter how long I wait I never see the alert "nominalIndex.js: update:". To get the function to work the user must take some other action which causes the function update to be called. There are no messages in the log to explain why the timer isn't popping. How can I debug this?
The code works on Chromium 87.0.4280.88 but doesn't work on FireFox 83.0 build id 20201112153044. I am running Ubuntu Linux 20.04
See this code in action at www.jamescobban.net/FamilyTree/nominalIndex.php?name=Culbert%2C%20Su&treename=&lang=en
With respect to this paragraph in this article: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/search-firefox-address-bar?as=u#w_use-a-different-search
The recent updates are worsening the usability.
Before the update, I used to do the following steps in order to search anything using an alternative search engine:
  1. press CTRL + L to focus the address bar
  2. type my search query
  3. press ALT + ↓ until the desired search engine is selected
  4. press ENTER to submit the query
Now, after the update, an additional step has been introduced
  1. press CTRL + L to focus the address bar
  2. type my search query
  3. press ALT + ↓ until the desired search engine is selected
  4. press ENTER to confirm the selection of the search engine
  5. press ENTER to submit the query
Yeah, it's just a single keypress more, but multiply it by a couple of hundreds times a day I need to do that, and you will get why I'm taking the time to report it.
Please get rid of step 4
I recently changed from Ubuntu Gnome to KDE Plasma. Now, when I'm running Firefox (v83) and click "Save as" to save a file from a web page, Firefox gives me a file list with directories mixed in alphabetically, rather than at the top. This is new behavior to me; I don't know if it's new with v83 (I was previously running v82), or if it's a KDE implementation issue.
Either way, I HATE having to scroll down through page after page of files and folders to find my destination folder. Since the dialog box also incorporates full-row select, I can't even click in the file list and type the first letter of my destination folder.
Please tell me there is a way to change this behavior and have Firefox's "Save as" dialog sort the files with directories at the top!
Thanks.
Hi everyone :)
I didn't find anything about it: I'm looking for a shortcut to open links in the private window without opening the context menu (right click)
I know that.....:
  • CTRL + Click open in a new Tab (Or middle click)
  • CTRL + SHIFT + Click open in a new Tab and focus on this new tab (or SHIFT + middle click)
  • SHIFT + Click open the link in a new Window
But actually I didn't find any combination to open it in a new private window. Even the context menu "Open Link in a new private window" isn't what I'm looking for as I don't want the new window to be on top.
Is there a way to do it, maybe an extension ?
Thanks for reading, Alex.
I followed the Firefox DDG install instructions at duckduckgo.com (which succeeded and now that it's succeeded can't be duplicated), and here: https://www.linuxmint.com/searchengines/anse.php?sen=DuckDuckGo (which doesn't work), but here: 'Preferences' > 'Search' > 'Default Search Engine' DuckDuckGo doesn't appear in the drop-down list. Hello,
I use NoScript with the Firefox Nightly channel and default search to DuckDuckGo. Where is the setting for the DuckDuckGo url so that I can direct it to the html page directly rather than wasting all the time and bandwidth of the search, the "You don't have javascript" filler redirect page, then finally the scriptless html page. The standard DuckDuckGo search address is as follows:
https://duckduckgo.com/?t=ffab&q=help+me
When you have javascript disabled, after all the redirects load, you end up at the address below:
https://html.duckduckgo.com/html/?q=help+me
My laptop is a tad on the old side, so the desktop environment taxes the system pretty heavily. I would therefore like to ask it to do less work for a search.
