After this crash LoadLibrary() and LoadLibraryEx() APIs (all variants - Unicode/MBCS and single char) stop normal operation until reboot, xul.dll remains locked by unknown process. As the result, Crash reporter can neither send the crash report with data collected nor add user's comment to it. Further transmission of crash report is available only via about:crashes page after system reboot because a lot of other applications (including FF) can't be started. Graphical attributes of other opened windows belong to other applications and texts in windows' headers look spoiled. Contents of all other CHtmlView-derived windows belong to other applications (even started before this crash) becomes empty. After reboot and until next FF crash all normally works. This crash happens in -safe-mode too, FF clearance doesn't helpful. Step-by-step backout of FF ver. from 42.0 to 33.1.1 has reduced fault frequency but not removed it at all. Fault may occure on attempt of open some Web page and may not occure on the same page next time after reboot, so, it looks like cumulative and/or garbage-in-constructor problem...

I've experienced several problems recently, following a Kaspersky Anti-virus update to version 16.0.0.614(e) . Apparently after the my dial-up internet connection drops, Firefox freezes, and freezes everything else. Before the connection drops everything runs fine for several hours.

If I get control back - i.e. if the browser finally closes - it wants to send a report to Microsoft - even though I wasn't running I.E. I guess its a Windows thing.

I haven't been prompted by FF to send a crash report in all this time, but crash it has. Per a FF help, I checked about:crashes and nothing is listed since January, before all this bizarre stuff started happening.

I sent the report to Microsoft since they asked. This is what was in it.

C:\DOCUME~1\Amy\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER2151.dir00\firefox.exe.mdmp C:\DOCUME~1\Amy\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER2151.dir00\appcompat.txt

szAppName: firefox.exe szAppVer: 44025884 szModName: hungapp szModVer: 0.0.0.0 offset:00000000

If I don't get control back from the hanging FF, and choose to force a restart, I notice error messages before shut down.

The latest were -.net-broadcast

followed by A.case no.3 ....

I have no idea what these mean.

I also had an event 2 days ago with a hot link in an email booting IE while FF was running. That had never happened before. target of hotlink: https://weather.com/weather/today/l/Bloomfield+NJ+07003 where it ended up: window titled: Address not valid - Windows Internet Explorer and the url: res://ieframe.dll/syntax.htm# I hope someone can shed some light on these experiences. Thanks

Hello Folks,

This is not a question but a notification about Crashing and Freezing with two add-ons that I had installed on Firefox 48.0.2. After I updated Firefox was crashing and Freezing every few minutes I filled out the crash reports sent them closed Firefox, I would then open it again only to have the same issue repeat itself after a few minutes. I then tried to figure out why and the only thing I could come up with was the below two add-ons that had been installed after a Windows 7 clean install, which were not the same as I'd used previously. So after uninstalling them everything is working 100% no Freezes or Crashes since. I know nothing about debugging or script writing and could not find a contact email to report the issue so I thought here would be the best option, just incase someone else has the same issue and that this notification may help.

I found my firefox constantly crashed recent days, while I did nothing to my computer. And Firefox used to very stable and almost never crash before. Unlike normal crashes (script not responding), firefox freeze after a few second I open it, restart firefox does not work. Sometimes Windows give me some information that tells me "plugin container.exe has stopped working" but as I said, I do nothing about plugins or software recently and the last update of firefox is about month ago. I have several workstations on my network that will not properly boot into Windows after installing the 50.0.2 update and Maintenance Service. My end users have been performing several hard shutdowns in order to get Windows to boot properly( I do not advise this). This situation has been worse with computers that installed Windows updates during the same session as the Mozilla update. These computers get stuck in a continuous installation loop. Fixes that have worked include booting to safe mode and issuing " shutdown -r" in an elevated cmd terminal, or uninstalling Firefox and Maintenance Service completely from safe mode. Do we need to discontinue use, block your updates on our network, or is there another solution?

I updated the standard FF's for syncing with my other Linux mint 17 and mint 13 kde with FF49, computers. These works fine, using FF sinds 1999. I started to use linux sinds 2003, ended windows xp 2 years ago. So linux is not unfamiliar to me. (data recovery win, bash, finding solutions online)

At startup it gives an error screen. I just reinstalled FF50 on the mint 16 (2core) to send you the logfile. i mentioned my email , date, and question title. I dont feel like fiddeling with cache cleaning, setting, savemode from cl bash and more, to get ff50 working. I am open to helping when possible. I switched to chromium for a functional browser. Most addons i used on ff work. I hope you can find a solution for this big bug and i can come back some day. I hope you can share the solution, cant imagine i am the only one.

kind regards

Since FireFox updated itself to 51.0.1 last week I've been getting frequent blue screen crashes with my system rebooting itself, the majority of which occur while reading or replying to emails. Sometimes I'm lucky to finish typing a sentence before a blue screen crash occurs. I've turned off the automatic updates (opting for the "prompt me when updates are available" option. That won't fix the blue screen crashes though. I need to roll Firefox to the previous version to 51.0.1. BTW, I've checked my hard drive with Norton Utilities checkdisk which found and corrected several disk errors. I also de-fragmented my boot drive which was 34% fragmented (obviously I hadn't defragged it in a really long time!). Unfortunately the blue screen message takes up the full screen and flashes past so quickly I don't have time to read it before it vanishes and my system reboots. Since this only occurs while I'm using Firefox, and only started with 51.0.1 the problem almost certainly is being caused by this latest version of Firefox. My guess is that it contains "stuff" in it that isn't compatible with the version of Windows I am using which is why I need to roll back to the previous version.

Upon startup, firefox displays a Mozilla Crash Report. This occurs even in safe-mode, and even when invoked from a terminal with the --ProfileManager option. This occurs even with a fresh .mozilla/firefox directory, and from other users on the machine. My computer is running Linux 4.9.0-0.bpo.3-amd64 Debian 4.9.30-2~bpo8+1 x86_64 GNU Linux. My firefox version is 52.2.0, and is installed via the "iceweasel" debian package. This problem occurs even for the "firefox-esr" command.

Both firefox and thunderbird crash directly to the "Mozilla Crash Reporter" on startup. This also happens in safe mode.

So far I re-installed firefox through the package management (first completely removed it including configuration files, then installed it again). The profile created by the re-install is still completely empty, there is no data from the original profile and no plugins.

The button to automatically add troubleshooting information doesn't work for me (probably because I'm using chrome now), so I'll try to add relevant information. If anything is missing, please ask.
