On occasion, I come across a web page that offers to send an email if you click on the link eg, I was researching regulations for personal care homes in GA and there was an option to send an email to the administrators to ask them for more information.

So, I click on the link and rather than getting the email address, firefox goes to open the "mail" application on my mac.

Well, I never use that application because it is too slow and bulky. I can't use basic text options like bolding or italics and such. Not to mention, it takes forever to load.

I use GMX for mail and it is accessed through Firefox. It is not an application that "lives" on my computer.

How can I get Firefox to respond to these email buttons on websites by going to GMX?

Thanks, Charles

How to make FF refresh proxy settings from command line/script?

I configured my Windows 10 Firefox proxy to use system proxy settings, and I have a script can based on different network environment modify the system proxy autoconfiguration script address (HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\AutoConfigURL) in registry to update the proxy settings. Internet Explorer works well - new proxy configuration usually become effective in 1 or 2 minutes after the change. However, each time after my script changes the registry proxy address (without FF restart), I have to go to Firefox Tools->Settings->Proxy to manually change it to another value (in my case it's from "Use system proxy settings" to any other value), confirm it, and then change it back. Then FF is able to reload the autoconfiguration script to make it work. This is really a headache.

I just wonder is there a way to notify FF to reload the proxy autoconfiguration script address from registry from command line so that my script can trigger it automatically after the registry is modified?

Thanks.

Hi there,

for ages, I was slightly annoyed by not being able to choose audio output for video conferencing in my browser favourite, Firefox. I think it is time to move this to more prominence as it is solved for ages and exists as experimental feature: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=934425 https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1294381

Toggle"hidden" config parameter media.setsinkid.enabled to true (https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Firefox/Experimental_features#apis) to enable it.

Could you find good places to share this? My impression is that this default is a huge UX disadvantage of firefox vs. chrome at the moment.

Best, Baltasar

Hello. For some time, under each entered expression in the sent post office there has been a red "wavy" underlining. The problem is to choose a language. In my case it is Polish. Unfortunately, in the Firefox browser, which I use, there is no option to change the language to Polish (Annex 1) as it is in the Google Chrome browser (Annex 2). Why? I would like to add that this phenomenon only occurs in the case of Onet in Firefox. How can this be removed? Regards Alex.

I've got about 10 bookmarks with links to support pages each about adjusting specific about:config setting to my needs. My job also requires me to change systems lots of times, from Mac to windows to Linux. Is there an easy way I can save my personal about:config changes to a file for easy import on other systems?

Thanks

Interestingly, today after changing motherboards and my old hard drives after my old MB died. Windows 10 reconfigured everything for audio except Firefox. After a lot of troubleshooting using various methods with no success (as all other aspects of windows 10 audio were working perfectly), I eventually stumbled upon a solution that finally worked for me.

In Windows 10, there is an app that varies individual app volume that eventually fixed my issue and i thought it best to post here for others, if they also have this particular problem.

All i did was the following:

1. Do a windows search for "App Volume". This will display Sound Mixer Options. Select it.

2. In the App Volume and device preferences screen that appears, go to Mozilla Firefox.

        a. Ensure Volume is at a setting you prefer.
        b. Output/Input are most likely showing Default. Mine did but YouTube video's still had no sound.
Change the Defaults to the same as the Masters at the top of the window and try your audio.
Mine started to work again at this stage. After i confirmed everything was working again, i changed
Mozilla Firefox Output/Inputs back to Default and it continued to work perfectly.

Please note that I made sure all my OTHER audios were working first with W10 before doing this, ensuring everything was functioning properly. ie. Other browsers were playing youtube videos with sound, playing an audio music file, etc

I have a website with a major audio mp3 library. When testing the audio player in Firefox I loss the speed and download functions of the player. The right click option is not really what I am looking for visually and practically for my users. When in Microsoft Edge or Chrome the player has the extended functions visible to the user. As I am principally a firefox user, I'd really like to find a solution. Three images attached show the issue. Any help is appreciated. Regards Erwin Henderson

Hi there,

I'm trying to see if there is a way to modify how the Firefox "Location" prompts ("Do you want to give this site access to your location? Allow/Block") are displayed on the screen. Although, microphone and camera access prompts are also relevant to me.

My use case is mobile Linux and similar to some of the problems solved by https://gitlab.com/postmarketOS/mobile-config-firefox

If anybody is knowledgeable on the subject and could point me to relevant source or terminology used by Firefox to help narrow my search, I'd appreciate it. Is it possible to modify these prompts with any of the built-in CSS modifiers like userChrome.css or anything else?

Thanks!

Hello everyone,

I need to recover a web page that I visited several times last fall using Firefox on Mac OS. I have regular backups which should include the Firefox cache files, but after looking through several threads online it is not clear exactly which file I would look for in my backups, and how I could go about actually looking at the cached version of that page. I have seen some tools for viewing old cache files, but the only one that seemed reasonably easy to use is only for Windows.

I would be grateful for any step-by-step instructions on how I can see an old page (or at least any parts of it that were cached) that no longer exists.

Also: I tried the various internet archives such as way back machine and google cache but no such luck. This was an ad on a real estate website in Italy.

Thank you in advance.

I'm interested in learning more about Firefox's about:config configuration settings. I'm especially interested in why the developers have added the ability to create your own preferences for Firefox. It seems to be kind of similar to the Microsoft Windows registry, like how you can add your own custom values and suddenly windows behaves differently. But whenever I have configured the registry in windows, I have always had to follow tutorials, and I have always wondered how people were able to discover those registry settings. Did they have to have knowledge of the internals of the windows operating source code? Did they hack windows and discover that altering a certain registry setting, or adding a certain registry value, would cause the behavior to change? How did they come to understand such things? I recently edited the registry to change the right click menu in windows 11 back to the old windows 10 right click menu. I had to add a really long value into the registry, and it fixed it just like what I was used to in windows 10. But I have no idea how the person that wrote the tutorial knew to add that exact value.

So, I'm wondering if the settings are hidden, and that's why you have to create them on your own? Or if by creating your own preference, one is programming the browser on some level... If so, what's the extent of programming that can be done by altering about:config and creating your own preferences? I have decent programming knowledge of javascript, C/C++, and python and all, but I don't understand something as complex as a browser, and why would you allow the user to create their own preferences, but I would like to. To clarify, I see there are preferences in about:config which are visible and can easily be configured, but I do not understand why there is a feature to add a setting. Is it just for developers of the browser? Is there ever a situation where a normal user like me might need to add their own preference? Can you recommend any manuals, documents, or books that I could read about it? Do you think it's something where I would just have to start reading the source code to eventually understand it?

One last question: is it possible to disable certain javascript features using the about:config? Could I disable MutationObserver, for example? Or make it be undefined whenever a new tab is opened? Could I make it so that assigning to window.location has no effect? I'm interested to know these things and what is possible. Sorry for the long winded message, I doubt anyone will read it, but thank you if you read it, and thank you even more if you have answers. I have found the source code for firefox, but it seems to be a daunting task to just read the raw source code to get the answers I want.

Is there any way to prevent a website from adding history entries in the back button dropdown menu just because I clicked a button, which opened a confirmation modal, and closed the modal, remaining on the same initial page?

For instance there is a site I use, which has a list of my posts, with buttons to delete the posts. I click the delete button, this opens an "Are you sure?" modal window, I click delete, the modal closes, I am on the same original list page with the same URL, but now I have another pseudo-page in my back button history that I have to go through.

If I do this with three more posts, I will have an additional three back button history dropdown entries to navigate back through.

When I exceed the number of entries shown in the dropdown, I have to keep clicking through the quasi-paginated list of duplicated back button history entries for the same exact page, to get back to the page I was on before ever going to the list page.
