Hello Mozilla Community,

I was hoping someone could help me with a major screw up that I've made.

A week ago,I performed a Windows System Restore because I was having internet connection issues.I was hoping that my default settings would fix this.Well, when I tried to go to Firefox(my default browser),my bookmarks were all gone.I had read about a suggested move of the about;profiles on Firefox solution. When I tried this, there were only two additional profiles on my page and they were over 2 years old.I also tried going through the ShowAllBookmarks/Import And Backup/Restore method and it was the same results(old versions that were over 2 years old).I know Firefox had created a bookmarks folder in my computer files titled Old Firefox Data but that has the same result also(old bookmarks profile from over 2 years ago).

Also, when I first tried to access Firefox after the System Restore,I was asked to sign in to Firefox.I don't ever remember writing down a password for Firefox so I created a new one.I was hoping that my bookmarks would somehow automatically restore themselves but it didn't happen. Is it safe to assume that with my new password reset that I'm not able to access my old profile with all my bookmarks from two days ago? So basically,it currently looks like all my bookmarks are gone from the last 2 years.I've tried many tutorials and videos but it all leads to my only getting access to my 2 year old bookmarks.

Last,I looked into a recovery tool that I found while browsing a help forum. It just gave me a free trial run and scanned my computer for recovery files. When looking for the Places:Sqlite files(old bookmarks), I noticed that the scan produced some recovery files from Mozilla Firefox that were only a few months old.I tried to search for them on my computer but nothing is recognized through my Windows Start button search.I was also advised to use RECUVA to recover old files that have been deleted.I also tried this and saw many old Mozilla/Firefox recovery files but couldn't find any that had Bookmarks in the file description. And when I do find a 'places.sqlite' file, every time I try to open it with Firefox it just keeps opening up a new window and never opens the file.

In closing, any of your expertise would be greatly appreciated because I'm completely stumped and frustrated. Please let me know if there's anything that you can help me with.

Thank you for your time

I'm not sure I understand how bookmarks work in Firefox. So I have an account and was logged in on a previous computer. That computer died, so I don't have files to import/restore. So does this mean all my bookmarks are gone because Firefox sync doesn't actually sync anything to my log in?

Thanks

All too often I'll find that one of my bookmark folders is "missing" and after doing some searching I find that the missing folder has been moved into another folder. Quite often the folder that gets moved is one that I've recently had open so it might be because of something that I'm doing but I don't know what that would be.

If a bookmark folder is active (this is in the side bar) is it possible to have Firefox move that folder without doing a cut/paste command?

I'd like to know if there is a way of moving a folder like that so I can STOP DOING IT.  :-)

Or is it a Firefox bug?

In previous Firefox versions I could 1. Go to Bookmarks 2. Select Bookmark This Page 3. Then I could choose Other Bookmarks to place the bookmark in a folder

Currently when I go to Bookmarks it does not give me that option and I have to go back to place the bookmark in the correct folder 1. Bookmarks 2. Edit This Bookmark 3. Other Bookmarks

Where's the Other Bookmarks option when initially bookmarking a page?

When I click star in address bar bookmark is added to the bottom of menus. Is there a setting to change this behaviour so new bookmarks will appear at top of menus?

This is useful because when dropdowns from bookmark bar and side menu are opened - cursor is near top of menu and new bookmarks are more relevant to access them first.

I have a recent issue that usually occurs when I have to use my touchpad instead of another external pointer where my clumsy use seems to be causing accidental creation of bookmarks for some websites I visit and this is mucking up my bookmark toolbar considerably. Also things keep getting sent to the end of the list if I unwittingly catch the edge of an icon while moving the cursor and it happens to shift position just slightly but not enough to reclaim it's own space on the toolbar - this is a real pain if there are accidentally created new icons that now make the list long enough to push them to the overflow and I can't see them on the toolbar anymore.

Is there any extension or setting like the "lock taskbar" in windows that can disable the drag and drop functionality of the toolbar without having to hide or remove it? If I need to add one to the toolbar, I can do it via the manager, but otherwise lock it so my clumsy navigation on the tohucpad of my laptop doesn't make a mess of things as I browse? I have cultivated a set of those most frequently used sites that I have pared down to the most minimal text label in order to fit them all on a fullscreen window, and it is very annoying to look up to select one and find a bunch of stuff I don't need or want that I didn't intentionally put there instead.

I am sure that those accidents probably happen when I try to scroll - I end up with bookmarks of recent google search results a lot. I must accidentally be activting a keyboard shortcut or cli-dragging the icons as I move past them. It would be great if I could just prevent them from moving positions until unlocked.

My computer crashed and I had to reset Windows 10. Files were maintained but apps were lost.

I did not know the "recovery key" (I had password but this additional key is required too - wtf?!!$) of my Firefox account and LOST ALL OF MY BOOKMARKS!!! This was years of research on specific subjects.

Is anyone aware of a way to recover these bookmarks? Your help is most appreciated!!!

Ctrl-D and then a pulldown menu worked. Then select a folder. (SOme years ago, in FF as well as in Safari, the menu would automatically place your bookmark in the most recent folder if you did not specify otherwise. Now you have to sepcify Every. Damm. Time.) The past week, it is not an anomaly or occasional: Every. Damm. Time. I now also have to press Ctrl-D twice (or three times). Or click the bookmark star twice - or three times. Only and ONLY THEN will it give me the pulldown menu for which bookmarks folder to select. Pulldown menus in general - e.g. having to scroll through a menu of states intead of just TYPING "OR" or "WA" - seem to have been programmed by nasties who wish to make life more difficult in small, numerous, and frequent increments. But the bookmarking is over the line. It needs to be ONE action to select bookmarks. Then ONE action to select the destination folder.

Hi there,

I am desperate. I created a new PW because the old one somehow didn't work anymore and didn't know, that I cannot access my bookmarks (very importand Business stuff I saved in these!!!!) anymore. That Passwords/Usernames are deleted seems somehow logical, but bookmars and the cronic? Is there any chance you can go back to an older version of my account and restore it? it is very impoprtant to me, I would pay for it to get it back. Thank you a lot in advance. I am new to Firefox serious use. I have used it in a cursory manner for years, depending upon Safari for most of my web browsing. I have given up waiting for a stable product that gives consistent results from Apple and so need to look elsewhere. For the few thinks I have used Firefox for, it works well. Now, let’s make it actually useful.

Bookmarks I want to create a hierarchy of bookmarks and be able to move new bookmarks to their designated destination. I read through the on-line help for this but it does not work that way. The instruction said to click the text of a Bookmark and an editor will open up. Instead, if you click on the text for a bookmark Firefox opens a new window from the bookmark. I would like to be able to move a bookmark around but cannot see how to do this. My intuition suggested that a click and drag would work to folder a bookmark to the same level folder. However, this does not happen.

Foldering by creating and moving to the desired destination works well. I don’t know if a folder with enclosed bookmarks will move intact but I am not at that stage yet.

Hopefully there is something simple that I can do to make this work.

PS: Environment in question is Apple iPad with latest OS and Latest version of FireFox.
