I seem to have a 'bug' being introduced through firefox when I view youtube videos. it does not happen right away, it takes a few videos to happen. The partial solution I have found so far (having done this twice so far in almost as many days, and about to do it a second in one day.) is to do a complete uninstall of firefox, then do a windows defender offline scan (which seems to knock out whatever is left in the machine, it won't tell me what was found.) then to come back into win10 and doing a clean install which seems to work well enough (having multiple tabs open [I do miss being able to have large numbers of open tabs and not having my machine going nuts]) till I break down and check the youtube channels that I like to keep up with. main noticeable symptom is my machines cooling fan going into 'hyper' drive, then checking task manager and finding firefox using almost two gigs of memory and 40+% of cpu capacity. As I type this, with just one tab open, firefox is showing 563.3 MB and seven (7) sub? programs running. Before this latest flair up, for one tab open it would be under 400MB and five programs running?

Add-ons I run on Firefox: uBlock Origin, Adblock Plus, and DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials

My system: AMD A9-9425 RadeonR5,5 Compute Cores 2C+3G 3,10GHz

                   8GB of ram 7.45 usable
                   WIN 10 Home Ver. 1909         {64 bit}

I have had Firefox set to delete cookies upon closure for several years now. I recently noticed that some cookies were present as soon as the browser was opened, which should not be happening.

This set of cookies reappears every time I open Firefox, even if I manually delete all the cookies, and even if I delete the cookies.sqlite file in between closing Firefox and reopening it.

This problem occurs on two machines with Firefox. One with Windows 7 and one with Windows 10. I have Sync configured to keep bookmarks the same on both machines. I was wondering if this may have something to do with it, as the same set of 'zombie cookies' keeps reappearing on both machines?

I have Windows 10, version 1903. I recently backed up my Mozilla Roaming and Local profiles to an external drive before replacing the hard drive in my laptop.

After replacing my hard drive with a new one, I restored an earlier image file of my computer in order to put back all my data onto the new drive.

Then I did a Fresh Start, effectively doing a new install of Windows 10 (v.1903).

(As far as I can tell, my old Firefox data was deleted during the Fresh Start reinstall.)

I now did a new install of Firefox onto my computer. After I opened it I synced. Because my favicons were not restored (a generic globe icon shows in their place instead), I'd like to load in my old saved profile and make that my default profile.

The problem: So I tried copying and pasting the saved profile ("bxfz7tby.default" ) back into the new Mozilla Roaming and Local profiles (e.g, into "C:\Users\,username>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\", but I can't get Firefox to access them. Instead, it only accesses the new profile it created.

I did an uninstall and tried it again, but all I ended up doing is creating another new profile. Now when I go to About:Profiles (see image), the default-release and default profiles listed don't seem to exist anymore (they aren't loadable, and they can't be found using the filepath noted there), and the actual backup profiles that I copied from my portable drive into Mozilla and that I actually see in File Explorer, doesn't show up as a profile choice.

How can I restore my old backed up profile? And if I do restore it successfully, will that also restore my missing favicons?

Opening links from external applications (i.e.: Outlook, Word, a PDF, etc.) begins to open a new tab in Firefox, sometimes it'll open a "full" tab-width before hanging, more often than not, I'll see a sliver of the new tab while Firefox sorts itself out.

Typically when this happens, I'll see upwards of 50% CPU usage from Firefox itself. Memory seems sane.

Hardware acceleration, whether it's on or off, makes no difference. Issue persists in safe-mode, and safe-mode with add-ons disabled. Issue persists in Firefox and Firefox Developer Edition.

Today I found out that Firefox in 2 systems I have (one Windows and one on Ubuntu) the master password would not work! Although I tried my master pass correctly Firefox would not accept it. I had to reset master password and enter login to Firefox synch, remove my device from the list and resynch again to get all my saved logins!

Did the update to version 79 did something to master password?

Thanks

I have a dual monitor setup with one monitor above my laptop screen. After I play a fullscreen video in Firefox on the top display there will be a one pixel segment of the Firefox window showing at the top of the laptop display whenever the Firefox window has focus and is maximised on the top display.

The way to make it disappear is to close and relaunch Firefox.

Troubleshooting so far: 1) I have tried fullscreen with different video sites and had the same issue. 2) I have tried with another browser (Edge) and didn't have the same issue.

Good morning all I am new in this house. Guido van Wijk, application engineer at RDC in Amsterdam (rdc.nl). We host large internet applications for the automotive industry in the Netherlands. Java based. 8.000 users. In this web-applications html, exit buttons are built-in to return to user-menu's where our customer (automotive company's such as car-dealers) can make an new choice to enter a new application. These exit-buttons perform wel under FireFox 78.x. The men is shown. Since the Firefox 79.0 update these buttons do not function anymore. Either the application-screen stays untouched (as the menu should be shown) or a full white screen is shown. Whic is also wrong. I have tested with an older Ffox 78.0 version on another PC and then everything works fine. What's going on here. I am not an software engineer.

The images show an example of 1 of our web-apps, OKR with the uitlogbutton, logout. And the usermenu which should be shown then. This works Ok with Ffox 78, not anymore with 79.0

Hello All,

I've been having random firefox customization resets. I'm calling it random because I can't spot a patten for when it happens. Its been happening for months. Restarting firefox and this pc doesn't seem to cause it. But shutting down for a longer period of time seems like its more likley to happen, I'm talking 7+ hours.

Whats getting reset

  • Welcome to Firefox tab opens
  • Firefox Privacy Notice tab opens
  • Theme is reset but is still marked as selected
  • Addons are reset but still installed/enabled
  • Tab/Home Options reset
  • Layout of file menu reset (downloads, home, reload, addons, ect)

What I've tried

  • Firefox refresh (A week ago, I loaded back the same addons I had before, not sure if they could be doing this)
  • Check the prefs.js is not locked/readonly
  • I don't have a user.js

I have two issues that seem to be related. I have a Mac (Catalina 10.15.6) and I use the Firefox browser. I've adjusted my preferences and selected Google as my Default Search Engine. My issue is that when I "Quit" Firefox and open it again my Default Search Engine gets changed to the Browser Default (which seems to be Yahoo but isn't listed as that). I then have to go back to my preferences and change the setting. I've tried Removing all the Search Engines in the One-Click Search Engine list except for Google but when my settings get changed, the Browser Default search engine pops back up in that list. My related issue is that I'll be in the middle of doing things in the Firefox Browser when it will suddenly close. I don't get a warning nor a crash report. It's just suddenly closed as if I "Quit" my browser. When this happens, my Search Engine settings change as well.

To fix this issue I've tried changing settings, tried uninstalling/deleting the Firefox application and reinstalling it from the Firefox website using a different browser. None of these attempts fix these issues. I'm getting quite frustrated with this glitch. I'm a relatively new Mac user so am not as familiar with how to troubleshoot things as deeply as I do in the PC world. I didn't have these issues with Firefox on other OS's (Ubuntu & Windows). Is there a fix that doesn't involve me installing any other external apps?

Somehow Firefox's address bar gets worse and worse every year (I've been using Firefox since 2004). I have it set both on my desktop computer and my Microsoft Surface to just show my bookmarked pages (since I can no longer control what pages show up on the drop down menu otherwise); this used to be fine (other than not being able to bookmark a ton of pages to keep it from being cluttered), but now nothing shows up on my Surface unless I type in the address bar. If I click the bar, nothing happens. It works fine on my desktop. I've messed with different settings trying to figure it out.

I used to use an addon called Oldbar or something to have some control over my address bar like the old days, since Mozilla saw it fit to take that control away from us, but now that addon no longer works. I just want a controlled list of my frequently visited websites. Why bother having a search bar if the address bar STILL tries to do searches? If I wanted to do a search, I would use the search bar. FIX THE ADDRESS BAR.

If I am signed into a Google account (which we always are, with Gmail) going to a YouTube page will cause the embedded video to not resize appropriately to the size of the window and it will tend to be overlaid over other elements on the page.

Attaching a result of going to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=juJL26dafvs

It is important to copy-paste that into the address bar and not just click on a thumbnail from the main youtube page.

When resizing the window, the video stays in the same position and keeps the same size. Full screen and theater modes also don't work.

This bug does not happen if I am not signed into a Google account.

I have no extensions installed. I have tried to refresh Firefox. I have restarted Firefox in safe mode and the bug still occurs.

I had a laptop with a broken screen and needed repair. Before sending it in, I created a firefox account and synced everything (with the intent to be able to get my bookmarks on a friend's desktop if needed while my laptop was in repair.)

I had only switched from chrome about six months ago, and had not made a firefox account until I was about to send it in for repair. I did not double check that this was working (beyond the fact that it synced successfully), nor did I connect a phone or other laptop, as I figured I would be getting mine back soon, and syncing things was just on the off chance I needed to get a bookmark in the week my laptop was away.

I was then told that the screen was not repairable, and that I would be getting the cost of the laptop as credit to buy a new one. NOT IDEAL. But I figured hey, I save all my files on an external anyways, can reinstall the programs I use, and can sync firefox and chrome to get my bookmarks and history back. None of my files/info was actually lost at this point.

So I did that. Got the new laptop, started reinstalling everything.

Downloaded firefox, logged in to my account to start the sync. It did not load a single bookmark, history, anything, although I had set it to save all of that, and made sure to sync and make sure everything was up-to-date before I sent my original laptop away.

So now I no longer have access to the original laptop, did not plan on this, and I can not manually export bookmarks to transfer them over. Synching firefox is my only hope for getting them back.

I've lost links to wedding planning, research articles, and several more things, and only now, when I started panicking about sync not restoring everything, have I been googling and finding articles warning that sync is should not be used as a backup.

Chrome, on the other hand, restored everything perfectly, but does not have any of the current bookmarks I'd needed and used in the past few months. Y'know, the most relevant ones I'd like to have.

What can I do now, and is there any even slight possibility someone behind the scenes as firefox can find my bookmarks/history saved on a server somewhere? I wasn't able to find a direct email or contact us form to fill out and ask.

Hello,

Since a while i noticed that the aspect ratio of firefox is off. There is a little line on the bottom and left side of the window. It's only a few pixels wide, but enough for my mouse to not recognize it as a window. It's slowly been driving me mad, since i can't click on the far left side of the screen and my cursor stays there when i watch a video fullscreen.

Anyone have any solutions for this?

Thanks in advance!
