Whenever I install a new system with a GUI — which is quite often as the responsible for the network — it's unavoidable to have Firefox on it since is hit and miss with uBO and the Chromium ones.

Except for the pages that load automatically on install, before I open the first page, and before I enable sync; I make sure to match my settings on other Firefox instances first. I even set several in about:config too; namely anything related to QUIC/HTTP3, encrypted DNS, and this relentless need Firefox has to navigate automatically to the HTTPS version of a domain as if they were always the same site. Technically speaking, they're not even the same server but I digress, when I finally enable sync it reverts all* the settings to defaults again.

I thought this was synced down from somewhere but recently I installed Firefox on an older system, I did the ritual with the settings, the candles, the about:config, the dead cat, y'know… the whole thing, and enabled sync. But what it actually happened was; I only logged in. Sync remained off. It read something like "sync off" in the setting next to the big blue button to turn it on.

Before I click the button, I opened a new window, and went to the settings again to make sure that the settings on the current window weren't stale. I noticed the reversal had already happened. Despite nothing had been synced I already was back to defaults.

I changed them back.

When I clicked on the button, the usual selection of things I sync was already done, I just had to confirm it and that was all. Once it finished, my settings were change to defaults… again! Albeit to a much lesser degree. The password manager turned itself on again, but not all the checkboxes below the main setting, one of the two Recommend, something-something while I browse was turned back on, I think Show search suggestions in address bar results was turned on too, and I don't remember if the settings for Firefox Home were changed, they often are, I don't use it at all, but it's rather easy to accidentally have the shortcuts from that page to prepopulate in the address bar drop down.

There must be one setting that prevents this, on Windows I think I have it under control (Firefox is preinstalled and preconfigured through Active Directory), that would be awesome if anybody actually used Windows, we only have it because our accounts are in Active Directory, but it does prove that it can be controlled. Most of the settings that have disappeared from Firefox are still available to Enterprise administrators and then some …which is a bit telling from the browser that allegedly champions privacy.

I want Firefox to let me navigate to "dangerous sites", so I learn early from my mistakes, not later when these protections have made me careless and it's riskier; to keep remembering on my own to keep my passwords fresh, not have that software crutch that relies on a third party service; to be a browser, not my operative system.

Although I'm not a dev, you can get as technical as you want, no need to dumb it down; if I don't understand it, I will be happy do my homework, just tell me how, please (and thanks.)

  • not all but it feel like it: it's mostly those that use Mozilla's hosted services, I believe, such as the password manager and the like.

Greetings ! For the last two days I have not been able to access Facebook or Amazon websites. When I use a shortcut or try to type in the URL, the display says something like using Google or such when I have my default set to Firefox ( And I confimed that it is set as such). I can click on a tab or reach anything else ok. Also, those two are accessible through Chrome or Edge ok on here and also on my phone and tablet.I have cleared cache and such multiple time and removed extensions. It is just those two sites on this device on Firefox. I think there was an update recently too.. Thanks for an assistance anyone can give. Cherry

I was using the Firefox browser on Windows 11 desktop to make a donation. When prompted for my name and address I had Firefox autocomplete the fields on the form. When I went to click donate I noticed that Firefox autocomplete had changed my donation amount to my phone number which resulted in a 5 billion dollar donation amount. Can you tell me how this happened?

Is there anyplace that shows how to use what the new release says on the 146.0. I got the message below when viewing new options in 146.0, but going to settings, sync just wants me to sign in and do a cloud backup.

Doesn't sound like what is in message below that I got after updating to 146.0. From what I found looking around, you are suppose to go to setting, sync, click on backup and choose location. There is no option backup, just an option to sign on. Below is message I got when checking what is in update 146.0:

Windows 10 users can now automatically protect their passwords, bookmarks, and more by turning on backup in Firefox. Your browsing data is saved daily on your device and can be encrypted with a password When you set up a fresh install of Firefox on any operating system for a new device or your current one, you can restore from this backup and pick up right where you left off. This feature is currently available on Windows devices and will be coming to other operating systems soon.

My Samsung tablet has a "ghost touch" issue - as a solution, I activated a "long press" setting (0.2 seconds). Unfortunately, this clashes with Firefox settings: When I open a link or a page on Firefox, the browser registers only a small scrolling action and then stops registering other actions. I'm down to the point where Firefox is my default browser but I need to find Chrome from the depths of my setup if I need to open something in a pinch - or, in this case, using the syncing function to get the page from the tablet to my smartphone. Is there a way to deactivate custom long press settings on Firefox? Thank you.

How to migrate from the old Firefox about:profiles/profile manager to the new profiles? And what are the differences?

I was positively surprised recently when the new Firefox profile manager (about:profilemanager) was introduced. https://www.tech2geek.net/how-to-use-the-new-updated-profile-manager-in-firefox-2025/ is an article about that.

However, I thought it's just a new visual UI with an in-browser switcher for the existing profiles (that I already had setup). However, it does not appear so.

The differences I see:

      1. old profile management
  • was managed by `about:profiles` or when starting FIrefox with `-P`
  • is saved in `~/firefox` and the `profiles.ini` clearly and quite obviously mentions them there, so it's easy to manage them.

I also found this old support article: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-remove-switch-firefox-profiles

      1. new profile management
  • automatically asks on startup if more than one profile exists
  • is managed by `about:profilemanager` or with the Firefox burger menu
  • seems to be saved in `~/.mozilla/firefox/Profile Groups` (Linux path here) in some .sqlite files, and I do not quite understand the format. Not mentioned in `profiles.ini`.
  • also, when you change something here (even like opening a profile?), you cannot open `about:profiles` anymore, because it says "Some Firefox process has made changes to your profile, […] you need to restart Firefox", only after a restart further changes would be possible, which I find quite confusing but it also indicates somehow the features belong together?

And this seems to be the new one: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-management#w_whats-the-difference-between-profiles-and-multi-account-containers

    1. Questions
  • What are the differences here (I may have missed)?
  • How can the new profile feature save so few files? Is it technically called "profile groups"?
  • And the most important: How can I migrate an old profile? (In order to use the new features and GUI etc. I quite like)

We can’t connect to the server at fzttlwrt.r.us-east-1.awstrack.me.

If you entered the right address, you can:

   Try again later
   Check your network connection
Check that Firefox has permission to access the web (you might be connected but behind a firewall)
