I need to update an old resource which requires Flash, so in a safe environment I need to run a browser with Flash enabled, which means Firefox 51. My mac has the latest firefox installed, currently 71. Whenever I load up firefox 51, when I return back to the latest Firefox my profile has corrupted, specifically: 1) places.sqlite has become places.sqllite.corrupt and is replaced by a fresh places.sqlite- the former corrupt file cannot be replaced/renamed as places.sqlite anymore 2) favicons.sqlite becomes favicons.sqlite.corrupt 3) all addons are marked as disabled. Reenabling them by editing extensions.json (changing all instances of appDisabled”: true to “appDisabled”: false) does not make the plugins enabled again
Here are my various attempts at doing this safely: 1) without turning internet off when running up firefox 51: corrupts the latest firefox install - requires redownloading and setting up 2) turn internet off, load up firefox 51, tell it to never update. Then continue closing and loading up current firefox - profile is corrupted as above 3) first Visit about:profiles in latest firefox, set the default profile to a new profile "switchToMeBeforeLoadingOldFirefox". Close browser and reopen, note a default blank profile. Close new firefox. Open old firefox without internet at above - frustratingly just doing this with my 'real' profile open in the mac's finder, I can see the sqlite temprary files being created in my 'real' profile when firefox 51 is open, corrupting it all as above. The files in the profile 'switchToMeBeforeLoadingOldFirefox' seem unaltered
That last point was particularly unexpected! Can someone provide a fullproof process please?

Recently I bought a new PC, installed Firefox on it, logged in with my account and synced all of my bookmarks and add-ons, etc My wife is now working on my old PC, therefore I removed all old programs and installed just the basic stuff she always uses. She's also created her own account after installing the latest version of Firefox. I didn't rename the computer, only her Windows useraccount. Also created a new profile, that doesn't help either because bookmarks keep getting synced between two different accounts each on a different PC and I don't seem to get it right. Looked at the different devices that should sync under each account, that seems to be OK. But everytime I make a change in the bookmarks on one of the PC's with it's own account the other one also gets changed under that different account. Can someone help me by taking it step by step, so I can understand what it is I am doing wrong?

So my browser is *not* up to date, and I will *not* be updating it, because every time I do that, it screws up on me. The last time I updated it, I could no longer restrict the number of instances it runs, and it started hogging system resources to the point that I could no longer even watch a streaming video. Updating firefox again is out of the question.
That being said, I'm trying to load a site and it says secure connection failed and won't let me load it.
How do I bypass this and load the site anyway?
Thanks for any help!

I had a game freeze on me and the freeze was the kind that prevented me from accessing Task Manager to force end it. I executed a Sign Out from the Windows Security window since that always fixes the issue for me. Firefox was one of the programs running at the time that I forced the sign out. Upon signing back in, Firefox no longer loads. Execute the program, UAC pops up to ask if I am sure I want to run Firefox and I hit Yes. Instead of running, like it normally does, it prompts me with another UAC window. Hit yes, another UAC windows. No error messages, it just keeps throwing up new UAC prompts at me. I turn off the UAC and Firefox still doesn't open, but I can see in Task Manager that it keeps opening and closing instances of itself.
Restarted multiple times, didn't resolve the issue. Uninstalled it, no change. Uninstalled my antivirus since that was causing me some other issues, no change. Tried to run the profile manager and it goes into a UAC loop as well. Copied my profile, deleted the original, clean installed Firefox... no change.
I haven't been able to find any information at all about any similar issue anywhere, so I really don't know what else to do.

Some of the sites I visit allow me to format text with control characters (eg ctrl-b to bold the text). However, Firefox interrupts the control characters and opens the bookmark sidebar instead. How can I override this shortcut (and, perhaps, almost every shortcut)? Thank you, Ben

Firefox is crashing (BSOD) my computer (PC with Win7x64) daily, during mouse movement or during auto-scrolling after clicking the middle mouse button. It usually happens at least once per day, and has been happening for weeks. FF, Windows and my mouse driver are up to date. I have tested memory many times (using Memtest86) and my hard drive. I have no crashes except in Firefox during mouse activity.
The BSOD reports vary. Recent ones: Bad Pool Caller (019 and 0C2), PFN List Corrupt (04E), Memory Management Error (01A), ??? (07E), System Service Exception (033). The only consistent thing is using the mouse within Firefox.

When I type a few characters into the url bar, I see a list of completions from sites I've visited before, and the completion from the top match is highlighted in the URL bar. For example, if I type 'ny' into the search bar, I see a list of sites pop up with 'ny' in the url, and the URL bar itself now contains the original 'ny' characters followed by a highlighted string of 'times.com' since that's the site with nt in it that I've visited the most. So far, so good. The problem comes when I press <enter> however. Instead of taking me to the New York Times website as I intended, the browser reacts as if I only typed in ny in the search bar and hit <enter>, and it ignores the auto-suggestions that it just displayed. (In this case, it takes me to ny.com, which is not what I want). How do I get <enter> key presses to go to the completed url? Here is a screen cast showing exactly what I'm talking about: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1L4a_lLG0QRPRU6aKSvoUIa8MOvRwBCHm/view?usp=sharing

My Windows 10 taskbar is set to auto-hide. For some reason, with Firefox on my laptop (but not on my desktop computer), Firefox will not allow the taskbar to pop up. I have searched for multiple solutions, and attempted:
- Restarting with add-ons disabled. - Closing the browser and then renaming xulstore.json before restarting.
The only solution that has worked temporarily is going into full-screen mode then exiting it, but again, it is only temporary, as either minimizing the window or leaving maximized mode will cause the problem to reoccur when the window is maximized again.

So after browsing for a while, when i right click (on any page) the popup menu doesn't show up. Also, when this happens, if i click any _folder_ in the Bookmarks toolbar, the popup window containing the items doesn't show/pop up either.
So, i created an entirely new profile in Firefox, without installing any addons or changing any of the other default settings. And, after browsing for a bit the same issue happens again...
Rebooting Firefox fixes the problem for a while. Please advise, thank you :)

In the past I could just right click on a link and there would be a menu of options, once of which was to remove the URL. On reopening the pulldown menu, a new link would take its place. Now, nothing. No option to delete links. How do I do this? I have searched and searched to no avail.

I am using Firefox Browser 71.0(64-bit) with xubuntu. Recently I have problems trying to select 'right click' options. If I right click on a selected area of text for example, when I move the mouse pointer to select an option from the menu the menu disappears. Sometimes a selection is made by the system, (usually the top one) and whatever is highlighted can be 'cut'. Alternatively, I must hold down the mouse button and move the mouse pointer the my selection and then release the button thus making the selection (never sure it is actually made!) I was thinking of changing to Chrome but I prefer Firefox because I can re-direct it's cache etc to a HD rather than an SD drive. So, I await a solution please.

Nothing seems to work. An appropriate plugin seems to be installed and, after downloading the latest version from Adobe, a retry informed me that Flash was already installed. Firefox does not agree. The download from Adobe informs me that upgrading is a 3-stage process but takes me no further than stage 1. This used to be a doddle under XP. You just found and ran the executable file in the Download folder. I can find no executable files in my Download folder. My current Linux version is 18.3 Sylvia. I am sure that this used to be handled automatically by Firefox updates in previous Mint versions. Now, however, it doesn't seem to matter what I try - whether using the Mint's Software function or going onto Adobe's download page. I always seem to finish up in the same place with the computer just looking at me and declaring that Flash is already installed. The Firefox Addons list includes Flash but nothing I do will get it working.
